Well, that fic idea based on the Old West dream with Sephiroth and Aerith really might happen. I've thought long and hard about it and have finally decided it would likely take place in the unnamed town featured in the fun B-grade Western Two-Gun Lady. The main characters from that film, Kate Masterson, Marshal Dan Corbin, Doc McGinnis, Mike at the saloon, and Jenny Ivers, would co-star in the fic along with Sephiroth and Aerith. Sephiroth, I believe, would be a U.S. Cavalry General, and Captain Harper from the movie Smoke Signal would more than likely appear at least occasionally. (And the characters would be amazed by his resemblance to Dan Corbin, haha.)

A controversial idea, perhaps, but other than Sephiroth and Aerith I'm honestly not sure that any of the other FF7 characters would appear, except maybe as guest-stars. (I could get some interesting mileage out of having Genesis in there at least once, as a Cavalry deserter.) The reason is because I think it would get far too crowded and I want the focus on Sephiroth and Aerith, as well as the townspeople.

I still haven't decided which of Simon's characters might appear. I kind of want one that speaks with his normal voice to be a townsperson. Mel Barnes might turn up as a villain, but that depends on when the fic is set.

Which brings me to a problem. I don't even know what state or year Two-Gun Lady is set in. The only clue I have is that the nearest large town is Tyrone. The only Western Tyrone I know of is Tyrone, New Mexico. But it wasn't founded until 1915, and I'm not sure if that's too late or not.

Does anyone know of a Tyrone in a Western or Midwestern state other than Tyrone, NM? I don't want to hear about Tyrone, PA or Tyrone, Georgia or Tyrone, NY; just Western and Midwestern states, please.

Normal voice and townsperson, huh? Then maybe Jim Nation is your best bet.

There is a Tyrone, Colorado, but I can't find much info on it.

And the fic sounds awesome. Looking forward to it!

Yeah, probably so. I'd better watch that episode again. I still like the idea of Jim Nation staying in Dodge with the Gunsmoke characters, though. Hmm.

Apparently it's either a ghost town or almost one, but so far I haven't found out if it was rather big/prominent in the past. Bleh. http://www.sangres.com/history/santafetrail/ghosttowns01.htm

I still have some doubts about it, my main one being I'm concerned that it could make me really enamored of the Sephiroth/Aerith pairing and that in turn might encourage me to do something unconventional and stupid that I really don't want to do, like Hamilton Burger/Della Street. I have this terrible habit of imagining myself in the female's place when I do interaction between a guy and a girl. Hence, this Western fic might end up a lot less shippery than originally planned, at least until I think I have a better grasp on my willpower.

Well, he could be visiting... Maybe he can say that he came from Dodge, as a nod to Gunsmoke?

Ah. Bleh indeed. Well, then back to the old standby of coming up with a random town in the Midwest called Tyrone. That's what I did with Moonlit Gulch, since I couldn't decide on what real ghost town to use--so I made up my own...

Ah, well, no problem with it being less shippery.

I have this terrible habit of imagining myself in the female's place when I do interaction between a guy and a girl.

Be thankful you're not doing a Nuzlocke like me, then; it's unavoidable that my in-game persona is interacting with the characters--and since I've expanded Brock's role, well, I have to work extra hard to make it clear that I'm not shipping myself with him, whether intentionally (which I'd never do, of course) or accidentally. The fact that he's a romantic doesn't help at all...

Yeah, that could be. He could turn up as an occasional guest-starring character.

I'm guessing that for a Two-Gun Lady setting I'd make it closer to the West than the Midwest. I might use the Tyrone, New Mexico thing but I'm still undecided. The actual unnamed town that's the centerpiece will probably be called Edge or something similar to tie it in with FF7.

I'd definitely want to ease into any romantic thing to begin with, to make it more believable and epic. But now I'm wondering whether I should really have them get together at all.

LOL. Does Brock say romantic things to you in the game?

That'll work!

Hmm. Well, whichever one you think would be best, then...

Well, I'm in no rush to see them together, but that may be because I have a hard time picturing Sephiroth/Aerith...

Actually, no. Brock's personality in the Kanto games is very flat and basic (in fact, most of the Gym Leaders/Elite 4 are like that, too--Lance is the only one who gets a lot of characterization, and even that is in the Johto sequels. Giovanni and Blaine are a bit better than most, as well, since they are more plot-relevant in the Kanto games, but, for the most part, everyone has just one train of thought: "Rawr, BATTLE!"), and I realized that if I want to give him (and the others) any depth at all, I'll need to bring in their personalities from the anime.

Yeah, same here. In the actual FF7 verse Sephiroth/Aerith is very difficult for me to picture, even if Sephiroth is sane. Their personalities just don't seem like they would mesh very well. And while I like Aerith alright, she's certainly not my favorite female character. But it's a fairly popular fanon pairing, probably one of the most popular fanon pairings that's actually het, so I'll probably have an audience.

Ahh, I see. That's good that some of them have decent characterization, at least.

Oops! Looks like I inspired something! :p

BTW, I found a Tyrone in Oklahoma. Can't seem to find when it was established, however.

Thanks! Hmm.... Yeah, I could definitely picture Two-Gun Lady taking place in Oklahoma. Which creates a problem, as I really want to have Captain Harper from Smoke Signal in there, and he seems to be stationed around Utah/Arizona.

I did some census work in Tyrone, PA-- pity you don't need to know about that one.... };-P

H'm. Might I suggest that the name was chosen because there's one in a lot of states with an Irish- American population, and the state doesn't matter so much? Go with the geography and climate.

Indeed it is a pity. ;)

Oh, that's an interesting thought! I didn't even consider that. Thanks!
