Short KH Blurb

A scenario from an RP that insisted on being written down.

Zack was still standing where he had been a moment before, trembling, staring down at the body laying prone at his feet. Only a few seconds had passed, but still, it seemed so long ago, an eternity. It played out in front of him again---the Sephiroth imposter lunging at him, knife bared; him standing and staring, wanting to leap out of the way but being too shocked to move; the real Seph suddenly appearing in front of Zack, unable to do anything on such short notice except to take the attack himself. Then he had stumbled back into the brunet, his three wings going extremely limp, and had slowly, painfully collapsed to the ground, the knife protruding from his chest. The imposter had smirked before leaving.

The lavender-eyed man shook the cobwebs from his mind. He could not simply keep standing here in horror! Instead he dropped to his knees, his hands trembling as he reached for the cruel weapon. "Seph . . . oh God no, Seph . . ." He took hold of the handle, swallowing the lump in his throat as the blood ran over his hands. The lump immediately returned.

Glassy green eyes stared up at him as he worked, a weak moan escaping the older man's lips as Zack tried to carefully remove the knife. It had gone in deep, and scarily close to his heart. Had it . . . could it have managed to pierce . . . ?

Zack let it go again, his hands still shaking, an acute dizziness sweeping over him. If . . . if only he had been able to react quick enough, to jump out of the way or even to grab the imposter's wrist. . . . He had not been prepared for it at all. He had thought that the only Seph here was the real one. . . .

"Hey . . ." He stared down at his agonized friend, feeling tears pricking his eyes. "You didn't have to go do that," he choked out, his voice strained.

Seph was silent at first, gasping for breath. When he finally managed to speak, his voice rasping, Zack's heart was twisted anew. "You . . . might have been killed if I hadn't. . . ."

"But what about you?" Zack said immediately. Again he took hold of the knife. He had to ease it out very carefully, so as not to cause further damage while doing so. But even while being as gentle as he possibly could, his friend cringed at the action, his fists tightly clenching.

Seph coughed, the crimson forcing itself to his lips. "I'll survive," he choked out.

At last Zack extracted the weapon, stabbing it into the roof. "I'll hold you to that," he said with a weak smile. "But hey, what are you saying? That I wouldn't be as strong as you?" Quickly he tore off part of his shirt, pressing it against the generously bleeding wound.

The older man shook his head vaguely. "You're . . . stronger than me," he murmured. Zack had never given in to his dark feelings. He had never lost himself in hatred. "But I . . . I couldn't stand to see you be hurt again."

"You don't think this hurts me, to see my pal torn up?" Zack returned, still with the sad yet grateful smile.

"I guess . . . I can't fully win either way." Seph gazed up at his only friend, the glassiness in his eyes all the more apparent.

Zack shook his head slowly. "Oh Seph . . . if I'd just been able to have been fully sure that you're you," he berated, "maybe this wouldn't have happened! . . . I really was sure you were, but after seeing so many fakes, I . . . I was just so worried, thinking of you laying somewhere hurt while some really good imposter took over. . . ." His shoulders quaked as he continued to struggle to stop the bleeding. "I . . . I'm sorry . . . I'm so sorry. . . ."

It would always haunt him, if it was his hesitation that had caused this to happen. Seph had been out flying around the property, trying to think of something he could do to prove that he was the real one. It had been when Zack had gone out to check on him and to suggest he come back in that the calamity had occurred.

He had felt so immobilized, so stunned, when what had looked like Seph suddenly had lunged at him with the knife. Of course, he had known instantly that it could not be, that it was a fake, but it had still been shocking.

"Zack . . ." Seph laid a trembling hand on the other's wrist. For a brief moment his eyes cleared as he looked up at the other. "It's alright," he said firmly. "It wasn't your fault. It was probably the plan all along, to have you be stabbed by one of the imposters. They would have found some time when they could do it, even if it wasn't now."

Struggling to say that much at once took the rest of his strength. His grip on Zack's wrist loosened, his hand shaking as it dropped back to the roof.

Zack panicked. "No, Seph!" he cried, leaning forward to be directly above the other's line of vision. "Seph, you've gotta stay with me. You've gotta! Come on, focus on my voice." Please focus. . . . You can't die. I won't let you!

Seph tried to smile in a rueful way. "I promised . . . I'd survive," he answered. "I'm going to." His eyes fell closed as his body went limp. As Zack worked with the wound, he could still feel the other's chest slowly rising and falling.

"Course you will," he said quietly, trying to relax and smile. "You wouldn't break a promise."

And a strange question, but I'm going to go nuts until I remember. XD; It seems like there was only one other blurb where I had a character go, "Oh God no ..." about a loved one's injury. Does anyone recall what blurb it is?

**uses it in a "Please, God, don't let this happen/this can't be real" kind of way.** Somehow it seemed the only right reaction for Zack in this blurb, considering the intense situation. o.o

o.o Whoa.

XD I don't remember what blurb that was either. I kinda don't think it was FF7 or KH, though...

Anyway, awesome little blurb. o.o Very intense, and poor Zack! Poor Sephiroth, too. XD
