... Okay.

So someone has been marathoning my YGO fics lately. Every day I have a stack of new Favorite and Following messages.

Then today, she happens to read one of the hanging ones. For the first time that I recall, she leaves a review.

She basically orders me to either update the thing or delete it.

Seriously, she doesn't ask if it's going to be updated, or beg me to update it, or say she wishes it would be updated. She flat-out says, and I quote from the public review: "This story hasn't updated since 2010. And it's 2014 now. Either you update this story, or delete it."

... Okay.

What if I feel I can't update it and don't want to delete it? And what about the people who enjoy what's already there?

Mama Mia.

Truthfully, I've thought several times about marking the thing Complete, because it's just so creepy by itself and it almost feels like continuing it would ruin it. But on the other hand, I hate leaving the character in his predicament, so I don't mark it Complete just in case I feel like I can update it someday.

I have had a few people like that and finally just ignore them. Don't let her make you do something that you don't want too--stick to your guns! If she is identify block her.

Yeah, the only solution is to ignore her. I can't even contact her to explain myself, as she doesn't allow Private Messages. I'll probably block her if she sends more comments like those on the other unfinished stories. It always makes me stop and raise an eyebrow when someone asserts themselves like that when commenting on something of mine.

I agree. I had someone who did that then when I blocked her she commented without a name. I do know a lot about computers and found out it was her again, and block her ip address. If someone doesn't like your stuff they shouldn't read it or if they really want to say something that is not positive pm it. I feel for you.

Keep up the neat fiction.

That's terrible! I'm so sorry. In this case, the girl seems to really like the stuff, since she keeps Favoriting it. I guess she just didn't like that one not going the way she wanted it. **rolls eyes.**

Thank you!

Well keeping a good thought for you

(I keep forgetting how LJ works. That's probably an indication that I ought to spend more time on it.)

Dear gods, what is WITH all of these entitled little twits? I mean...I guess best case scenario, you can feel flattered that they feel so strongly about it (you inspired rage! You can be their archnemesis!), but seriously, why are there so many people who feel they need to be prioritized above everything else? I dealt with quite enough of those people at the shoe store today, and worked with one of them. I'm going to burn things.

I guess if you felt you needed to do something, you could always put a quick author's note on the first page stating that readers should consider the fic finished, and if you ever get an urge to work on it again, you could write a follow-up fic? But definitely don't delete it just because some entitled anon has their undies in a wad.

(LOL.)

Yes, I definitely seem to have inspired rage! (Or at least, frustration.) But yes, jeepers creepers, it's crazy. Gah, I'm so sorry.

I've thought sometimes about putting up an author's note of some sort. So yes, that might be the best solution. I definitely wouldn't delete it just because she "ordered" it. I was just appalled by her choice of words.

(She isn't anonymous, though; she has an account and keeps Favoriting stuff. But I can't PM her because she doesn't allow PMs.)

Don'tcha just love it when people think they can dictate to you what to do with your fics? :p

[identity profile] insaneladybug.livejournal.com 2014-01-21 08:05 pm (UTC)(link)
It's always so appalling when they act like they have that right. It reminds me of the person who kept basically trying to order me what to do about the characters' names and origins. ("If you insist on using the dub names, DON'T say things like 'the Brooklyn boy' since they're really all Japanese." ... Only in the dub, many of them are American. And I was writing from the dub and had every right to do so if I wanted. She could have made a suggestion, but I'm still ticked off at how it really sounded like an order!)

...Ugh, good gosh. *hugs*

Nobody has the right to tell you what to do. Now I'm annoyed, too.

[identity profile] insaneladybug.livejournal.com 2014-01-22 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
**hugs back.** Yeah, that was definitely a weird one. **headdesk.**

That is definitely the most bizarre type of rude FF.net-er I've yet seen. What is the logic behind that? Geez...

[identity profile] insaneladybug.livejournal.com 2014-01-25 12:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, seriously. It definitely ranks high on the list of odd comments I've received.
