Muwahahaha . . .
Before I left on Saturday night, I was able to put up this Duke fic I've been working on for months. I finally got another plot bunny and did something with the rest of the thing. XD; I opted to put an extended flashback in. I'll probably write more flashbacks in future Duke fics, unless I decide to rewrite the current fic. But I don't think I will. It took long enough to get this version done!
Then on Monday morning I was able to write all of chapter 13 for Crimes for Christmas. Mai has joined them now. XD And of course, later there shall be the inevitable meeting between her and Valon. Meantime, Marik has fallen through a skylight. o.o I FINALLY got to write that scene in! It seems so long ago when I first saw the movie where the guy fell through the skylight and I wanted to use the idea with Marik. Heck, I know it was a long time ago. **flicks role-play with someone where Marik got to go undercover.** I dunno how much she liked that storyline, but she was a good sport about it. XD; That was one of the last RPs we were doing that was actually going somewhere. --___--;;;
The next couple of days I worked on the next chapter of On My Way Home. And I just put it up! ^___^ This time the song is Evening Falls by Enya. I mentioned to SK that I'd probably be using that song in the fic, as well as Somewhere I Belong (even though it was already used in Paper Flowers). I still don't know how long this fic will be. XD; I'm not thinking more than six or seven chapters, really. I think I can tell everything I'm trying to in that amount of time. I think Aubrie was right when she said I finally had my groove back. XD; I've been updating things like mad!
On Tuesday evening we went out visiting to my uncle and aunt on Dad's side. (Actually, my dad has nine siblings, most of them married---if not all---and Mom has three, all married . . . well, one widowed now. I have a ton of aunts and uncles!) Then we went to Barnes & Noble in Bountiful, but they didn't have volume 5 of Megaman yet. We also dropped by Smith's Marketplace so Dad could return a couple of things. This time they had Marik! It's odd how I can find him always when I don't need to, but when I do need to find one, I never can!
And speaking of updates and that sort of thing, I got bored and looked through my blurbs. I found one that's really weird, but the last half is normal enough that I decided to post it. ^^; It's a conversation between Alister and Valon, mostly. I think I'll take bits and pieces from it to use in various future fics.
"I'm sorry, Alister. . . ." The Australian narrowed his eyes. He wouldn't cry---had he ever?---but he could feel that the tears were there. "I never thought . . . I never thought at all that you'd get run down like this. . . . You didn't deserve it. . . . I never thought I'd say it . . . but you didn't. . . . And I wish . . . I wish you were alive, even if we started having a row." He swallowed hard. "Honestly, I do!"
The gray eyes blinked. "I never thought I'd hear you say that," Alister rasped, managing a weak smirk as he focused. "I hope you mean it, because you've got your wish." He coughed, groaning as he tried to sit up. "But if you don't mind, I'd rather not start arguing."
Valon just stared at him, going white with shock. Now his emotions were running rampant and he felt highly confused. "But . . . you died," he exclaimed, his hands shaking as he reached to help Alister sit up. "I saw it! The bloke hit you like you were some wild animal and then he drove off without even skippin' a beat. You were just laying there . . . with your eyes open and . . . crikey, you're bleeding!" He frowned, feeling the crimson liquid run over his fingers. A quick inspection found a painful-looking cut between Alister's shoulder blades.
"I know," Alister muttered. "I can feel it." He hissed in pain, reaching up to investigate the cut on his forehead with a clean handkerchief. "I doubt it's serious, though. I just had the wind knocked out of me."
"I thought you were dead, chum," Valon said, his voice cracking. Gently he dabbed at the blood on Alister's back. "Were you really awake all that time?" Oh, not that he thought Alister had been purposely faking it. Not at all. But he wondered if Alister had been aware and had just not been able to respond for a while.
"No," Alister admitted. "I did black out. I didn't regain consciousness until you said you wished I was still alive." He let Valon help him, grateful for his friend.
"I'm sorry about what I said, Alister," Valon said sadly, pressing carefully to stop the bleeding. "I didn't want you to get hit by a car. Really, I didn't."
Alister nodded slowly. "I know it's just an expression. Don't worry about it." He hadn't taken Valon's words to heart. He rarely did, especially if they were deep in a heated argument. When such was the case, he knew that Valon had a tendency to blurt things in anger that he didn't really mean. Well, they both did. But they always wound up apologizing eventually, in their own ways. They were actually deeply close as friends and perhaps as adopted brothers, though they usually didn't admit it aloud unless one or the other of them had been hurt.
Valon smiled a bit. "You know . . . you're actually a good chum."
Alister was silent at first. "So are you," he replied then, as Valon continued to tend to his wounds. "I didn't realize it for a long time, but I still have a family."
Valon froze momentarily. "Likewise," he said at last. "And speaking of 'family' . . . we'd better be getting back. Raph is going to be worried about us." He had to crack an amused smile. "And I wonder what we're going to tell him. . . ."
Alister started to shrug but then thought better of it, knowing that action would likely irritate the wound. "Just the truth," he answered unemotionally. "We were both out wandering about, I got hit by a car, you thought I was dead, and when I came to, we resolved our differences. He'll be relieved to hear that last part."
