Fic Quiz Thingie

Found this on Tumblr and thought it looked interesting. But I don't post these types of things on Tumblr, so I brought it over here. Comment with the title of one of my fics and a number. (Or if I have a lot of time to kill/a lot to say, I may just answer all of the questions for every fic suggested.)

1. What was my inspiration for this fic? How did it come to me?
2. What’s my favorite part of the fic?
3. What’s the part of the fic I’m most proud of?
4. What part of the fic was the hardest for me to write?
5. What part of the fic am I still dissatisfied with?
6. Who’s my favorite character in the fic?
7. Were there any major decisions I made about the fic that could have made it go a whole different direction?
8. Was there anything I only learned about the fic after I had finished it? (themes, motifs, symbolism, etc)
9. Did anyone in the fic surprise me by doing anything? If so, what?
10. If I had to sum up this fic in a sentence, what would it be?
11. If I were to rewrite this fic, what would I change?
12. Did any thing about this fic’s reception surprise me?
What were my beta’s major comments about the first draft of this fic? This one doesn't apply since I never use a beta. I am my own beta. I don't want to wait for someone else to find time to read each of my fics before I can post them!
13. If I were to write a sequel to this fic, what would it be about?
14. Any other question about the fic!

Oooh, I did this once; it's a lot of fun!

Let's see, how about 1, 3, and 10 for "A Change in My Life?"

Yes, talking about our fics is great!

I decided to go ahead and answer everything:

1. I believe the biggest factor in my inspiration for A Change in My Life was, of all things, a Professor Layton story written by [livejournal.com profile] candy__chan. She had a concept where the characters had died tragically and later were reincarnated and rediscovered each other and their bond. (Their bond in her story was slash, however.) For some reason, I kept toying with the idea of fictional Scott and Elliott meeting and feeling like they had met before, somewhere. But I really didn't want to go with reincarnation, because even when I was using fictional characters and not the real people it seemed too depressing to imagine that they were all dead and so much time had passed. I had already used the idea of a cast of characters getting amnesia and thinking their lives were different (Twilight and Dawn), and that was probably a factor in my deciding that I could use such a plot to make the Carmen story happen.

2. What’s my favorite part of the fic?

The climatic battle against the evil double, where the guys sing A Change in My Life to break the spell.

3. What’s the part of the fic I’m most proud of?

See above.

4. What part of the fic was the hardest for me to write?

I suppose the part where the guys get to ACME, since that was where I stalled for years.

5. What part of the fic am I still dissatisfied with?

I kind of feel bad that the newer chapters don't have as much introspection and detail as the earlier ones.

6. Who’s my favorite character in the fic?

Elliott, perhaps, who goes from reclusive teacher to the one who figures out how to break the spell in the climax. Instead of needing to be rescued, he rescues everyone else. I also loved Scott's role in how he brought Elliott out of his shell.

7. Were there any major decisions I made about the fic that could have made it go a whole different direction?

Well ... I don't know about a whole different direction, but the original outline called for Jeff to be hurt more seriously. That would have changed the climax a good bit.

8. Was there anything I only learned about the fic after I had finished it? (themes, motifs, symbolism, etc)

I think to answer that question, I would have to read it again.

9. Did anyone in the fic surprise me by doing anything? If so, what?

I think everyone behaved pretty much as I had intended ... unless I originally wasn't planning for Jeff and his uncle to argue so much.

10. If I had to sum up this fic in a sentence, what would it be?

Even when under a powerful amnesia spell, a group of friends discovers that their bond cannot be broken.

11. If I were to rewrite this fic, what would I change?

I would add more detail to the later chapters.

12. Did any thing about this fic’s reception surprise me?

I don't think so....

13. If I were to write a sequel to this fic, what would it be about?

The double causing more trouble, I suppose. But I don't imagine he would try anything like this again.

Oooh, these were some nice tidbits! Indeed, them using the song was poignant and wonderful! And I loved Elliott's character development, totally. *hugs him*

Love that summary. :)

Ohh, what an interesting meme/quiz thingy! How about #1 for Ghosts? The Ayumi and Gin one. You wrote it a long time ago, but I still remember it fondly.

[identity profile] insaneladybug.livejournal.com 2015-11-22 03:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I couldn't remember the answer to your query offhand, so I went digging in back entries and surprised myself. Apparently the inspiration was a blurb written by Lizzie (who has used so many LJ accounts I'm having trouble remembering her current one). It featured a creepy guy similar to the villain in Ghosts, and the plunnie sparked when I wondered how Gin would react to a creep like that. Then I debated over using an OC kid for him to encounter and rejected that idea because I could use Ayumi so easily. Also, it seems Ghosts was originally a oneshot and your enthusiasm for it made me decide to expand it. :)

(Wow, LJ, could you be any glitchier?)

Ooh, fic meme! These always make me wish I finished fics more often. But I'll ask about The Return of Baby Face Morales, 2 and 9 specifically, or all of them if you have the time.

Evil glitchiness!

1. What was my inspiration for this fic? How did it come to me?

Hmm. I honestly can't remember my inspiration for this one, either. I believe it was simply the desire to bring the character back for another showdown, but I wonder if it was as simple as that. I completely forgot my inspiration for the Detective Conan fic cited above....

2. What’s my favorite part of the fic?

Oooh, tough one. I believe it was the waterfall scene and Micky trying to rescue Baby Face.

3. What’s the part of the fic I’m most proud of?

My last revision as a whole, which added so many details and scenes not present in the other versions.

4. What part of the fic was the hardest for me to write?

Good question. I remember it flowing pretty well. Perhaps the part where Micky is recovering and how he's dealing with that.

5. What part of the fic am I still dissatisfied with?

I think I corrected all dissatisfactions with the last revision.

6. Who’s my favorite character in the fic?

Micky, of course. And Tony, probably.

7. Were there any major decisions I made about the fic that could have made it go a whole different direction?

I don't recall.... There was probably something.

8. Was there anything I only learned about the fic after I had finished
it? (themes, motifs, symbolism, etc)

I don't think so....

9. Did anyone in the fic surprise me by doing anything? If so, what?

Hmmm.... Tony, perhaps, if he showed any hint of kindness in this story? I seem to remember the sequel better than this one.

10. If I had to sum up this fic in a sentence, what would it be?

Baby Face Morales is back, and he's out for revenge.

11. If I were to rewrite this fic, what would I change?

I already rewrote it a couple of times. I think I finally have it where I want it.

12. Did any thing about this fic’s reception surprise me?

I was surprised by how much people liked it and the bringing back of the Baby Face character.

13. If I were to write a sequel to this fic, what would it be about?

I wrote a sequel.
