Meme from Candy

Give me a fandom and I'll give you at least three of my unpopular opinions about it.

1. I have tried, and tried to like Yahiko. I can't fully make my opinion until I've been able to read the other manga/watch the rest of the anime, but sometimes he just makes me want to scream. XD; I dunno, there's something that bugs me about children who think they're adults. He comes across so arrogant in the early manga, and I know it's probably a facade, but I just really don't like arrogant children characters. I need badly to read the later manga/see the rest of the anime, so I can (hopefully) see him grow up.

2. On the same line, I have also struggled to like Kaoru. I admit that I've finally been able to see her in a somewhat better light now, and I recognize what a kind person she must be, to have all these "weirdos" living in her dojo, but still sometimes she just ... ugh. I think what bothers me the most is when she doesn't have any confidence in Kenshin concerning Megumi. She just goes and hits him and it's really uncalled for. Women who can't have better faith in their men than that get on my nerves. XD; If a male character was like that, and hitting the woman, he probably wouldn't be liked, but when a woman is like that, it's supposed to be funny. **shakes head.** It's just not funny to me.

3. I think the manga-ka has an obsession with decapitation. XD; In the five manga I own, I think there's at least one in each volume. Sometimes it's fairly graphic, too. That's truthfully one of the reasons why I stopped buying the manga. It drives me crazy. That's one change I'm grateful to the anime for making.

(I should have said Death Note! If you're up to it, I'm curious to know your three opinions for that.)

1. You must read the rest of the manga (I'll watch the anime, but I don't care too much for it) to see Yahiko's growth! But I know what you mean about arrogant children characters. Some annoy me, as well.

2. I've also been iffy with Kaoru. I agree with you about the whole hitting thing between men and women.

3. I white-out those scenes. *gags*

[identity profile] insaneladybug.livejournal.com 2007-09-21 04:30 am (UTC)(link)
(Sure, I'll do Death Note. XD **will think a bit about her opinions.**)

It is awesome if Yahiko gets past the arrogant child stage. X3 Then it would maybe make his early appearances not such a pain to read/watch, because I'd see how he matures and changes after that.

Men-bashing seems to be an "in" thing in recent years, and while men definitely do some stupid things, so do women, and I don't think men deserve all the bashing they get.

Wow, that must take a lot of white-out! **remembers the full page of Sanosuke's mentor's head.** .___.

(Awesome!)

He really comes through in showing his maturity, especially when being left on his own. I also liked the times where he couldn't stop his tears from coming during times of frustration. Actually, I like it when certain characters cry (I'll never forget the first time I saw DBZ's Vegeta -- the last character in the universe I'd ever expect to see real emotion from -- shed tears for similar reasons like Yahiko's). Have you read the recently released (well, last year) manga that takes place 5 years later?

*nods* That is true. I seem to be thinking about DBZ a lot right now; an example would be Chi-Chi and her frequent freak-outs with Goku. ^_^;

One scene with Shishio and his practice room...I had to use little notepad paper since I would be using too much white-out. Volume 2 was the first RK manga volume I bought. I remember turning the page to see Captain Sagara's head there...had a "Whoa!" moment in front of a friend. ^_^;;

**purrs at icon.** X3

Oh, I love it when characters show that it isn't a bad thing to cry. When I first saw Zack crying in the Crisis Core trailers, it made me love him even more. ^^

Manga that takes place five years later.... You mean a Rurouni Kenshin one? I remember one about Yahiko being 16 and being given Kenshin's sword.... Didn't read it, but heard about it.

Notebook paper! That's a good idea! XD

[identity profile] garowyn.livejournal.com 2007-09-22 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
=D

Yeah, the RK one. Yahiko is even more mature than when we last see him, but I was relieved during some scenes where he displayed that Yahiko-anger we're so familiar with. ^_^;

Saves on white-out, that's for sure. ^_^

I'll have to look for that the next time I'm at Borders. ^^

It was in a Shonen Jump magazine, actually. Hopefully they'll print it again with the other follow-up manga I've heard about.

Were you able to come up with 3 Death Note opinions?

[identity profile] insaneladybug.livejournal.com 2007-09-24 06:54 am (UTC)(link)
Ahh, I see. So it was just a short story, then?

1. I've noticed Misa is bashed a lot in the fandom. She really annoyed me at first, but later on, she didn't always bother me. I like her especially when she doesn't have her memories and isn't trying to kill people. Her devotion to Light is sometimes very sweet, but other times, it drives me mad. She knows he's using her, yet she doesn't care. She just basically threw her life away. Still, I realize that to her, she was giving her life to what she thought was a good cause, and she was so very deeply affected by seeing her parents be shot to death. But it's hard for me to fully respect or like a character who sneaks around and uses underhanded methods to kill people. **got irritated when she and Light were scheming to kill L, for instance.**

2. I am actually often torn on what I think of Light's mission. I know it is wrong, yet when he started out, the first thing he did was stop a criminal who was holding a bunch of little kids hostage. That seemed a lot different than when he decided to randomly go out and punish all criminals, even ones who were serving their sentences in prison. I could never agree with that, which was definitely playing God. When it came to something that really needed to be stopped right then or innocent people would be hurt, I could agree that something needed to be done. But the problem was, doing it then opened the door for him to take it further and eventually get lost in thoughts of grandeur. Light was weak. And he was human. And I wonder if the same thing might happen to anyone if they ended up in the same position. After all, Light seemed to be a pretty ordinary guy until he found the Death Note.

3. I really like Near. I suppose a lot of people don't because he's L's replacement and they compare him to L/they don't find the interaction between him and Light as interesting/etc. I dunno, I didn't start out comparing the two, at least not their differences. I noticed their similarities, and I actually felt at home with Near right away, even though I missed L like crazy. On some level, maybe I can relate better to Near than L, as well, because Near's obsession was toys instead of sweets. XD That doesn't necessarily mean I like him better than L, I love them both. And Near hate definitely makes me sad. ;__;

[identity profile] garowyn.livejournal.com 2007-09-24 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes.

1. Understandable. That's one of the reasons why I like her, somewhat. On and off like Kaoru (always seems to be female characters I like on and off).

2. Yes, I don't like his methods or believe he has a special right to carry out divine judgement. Yet, I could argue both sides for him if needed, and I find him very interesting. =)

3. Same here! I love Near (still can't find a fondness for Mello) and it's interesting, if I recall correctly, the way he referred to L as losing the game, or something. Off topic, I would like to buy the novel in Feb/08 of DN being told from L's POV. Can't remember.

[identity profile] insaneladybug.livejournal.com 2007-09-25 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
I like Mello too, especially since he reawakened a fondness for Alister, but I agree that his methods of trying to catch Kira were not good.

Oooh! I hadn't heard about such a novel. I know there's going to be a prequel movie about L.
