Pro-Prequel Rantage
Jun. 20th, 2005 07:28 pmOkay, this is something that has puzzled me ever since Episode I came out in 1999. Why do people complain and whine so much about the Star Wars Prequels? Are they upset because they're not the original trilogy and don't take place in the same time frame? Do they think the actors are bad? Do they just not like the characters or the storylines? Can't they ever be satisfied? XD;
Of COURSE the prequels won't be like the original trilogy. They take place in a different time, when the Republic still existed but was slowly crumbling. Darth Vader isn't Darth Vader yet. Most of the original characters haven't been born. But the prequels are COOL. They show all this backstory and tie everything together. George Lucas knew what he was doing when he made IV, V, and VI first. That only makes the impact of the prequels all the more profound.
And we get to learn about some of the characters from the old films. I came to appreciate Obi-Wan so much more because of the prequels. And it was great to finally know the stories behind Darth Vader and Boba Fett. Plus, I actually enjoyed the new characters who showed up. Qui-Gon was so awesome and wise. I love how Padmé won't be pushed around. Jango was cool. X3 And Jar Jar doesn't deserve all the hate he gets. ;__; It's not like he's the first Star Wars character created for a lighthearted purpose. C-3PO's banter with R2-D2 was always meant to be funny in the original films (and the prequels). C-3PO was almost always getting in trouble, just like Jar Jar, but you rarely see people complain about him. I just don't understand. Jar Jar is well-meaning and sweet. **pats him.**
Also, I don't get why some people (like one of my brothers) complain about how depressed Episode III made them feel. Well, of course it'll be depressing. It's about how Anakin turns to the dark side! Anyone going into the film should already be braced for tragedy and sadness. The whole prequel trilogy was leading up to that climax.
**takes a deep breath.** It felt good to get that out of my system. XD
Yesterday was pretty cool. We went out to the new house of one of my brothers and his wife. ^^ It's such a big house.... Three whole floors! **envies.** ^^;
