Random Musings

There are very few Rockapella musical clues I really remembered before I started watching the show again.... In fact, I'm not sure I recalled any of them specifically. XD; But the memory of Zombie Jamboree never left me. Specifically I remembered the "back to back" part of the chorus and Sean's sunglasses/zombie eyes. My first reaction to that was ... "WTH?" or something along those lines. XD But I got used to it because I loved watching the clip so much. I also, totally randomly, remembered the part with "Hey! One then two!", the wild arm gestures, and the bright lights overhead. Odd, what sticks in your mind. LOL.

After I started watching episodes, I did get very specific memories of a select few musical clues that I know I watched way back when.

-Creepy Criminal, a parody of Sixty Minute Man: "Send your agents way out West when the moon is full, to Brigham Young University, she's a creepy criminal!" ♥ I remember being completely thrilled and ecstatic the first time I saw that. It was a complete surprise. Back then, the episodes would air first on one PBS station and then the other. So we rushed to find something to record it on for the second time it would come on. **still has it, too.**

-Everybody's Gone Shakespeare, a parody of Surfin' USA: **insert line about everyone still remembering the plays of a "guy who's been dead for nearly 400 years.** Priceless. Mom and I laughed so much at this one. I distinctly remember howling over the ridiculousness of the guys wearing Shakespearian hats and coats along with shorts and sunglasses. LOLOLOL.

-Island Rap: "A thousand miles up, Nana, and don't you be laughin'---the fifth biggest island in the world's called Baffin!" Not a musical clue, but an end-of-episode insert. The boys perform with the animated Nana Rap as they tell the five biggest islands in ascending order. I *loved* this one, mainly because all four of them got a part in it. **squees.** And then Greg joined in, too.... XD

Other memories: I *know* I saw the very first episode. I'm still not sure whether I saw it on the premiere, but I like to think I did. I distinctly remember Greg talking to the Chief in the Office sketch and saying that funny thing about how the day's going: "We had the Mona Lisa calling me up, we have a dead guy dying in my office.... It hasn't been a good morning."

I remember the Voice. XD I always wanted them to show what he looked like, especially when they'd show the arm in front of the camera. Of course now I think that would just destroy the mystery surrounding the character.

I think my favorite Informant other than Rockapella/Scott as the Dying Informant was the Mysterious Woman. I loved those sequences, where everything would go B&W and she'd come in and it'd be a parody of '40's detective movies. And Greg always had a lollipop instead of a cigarette. XD I remember getting a lollipop from the church Halloween party and getting the giggles with Mom thinking about Greg's lollipops, because it looked like his.

Dad was highly annoyed by Mrs. Pumpkinclanger. XD I wasn't sure what to think of her back then. I remember thinking of her as the crabby lady, or something like that. LOL. Now I'm mostly amused by her. I have the most clear memory of watching the show in winter because it was dark (it came on at six and six-thirty), and standing on a random piece of cardboard on the floor while a Mrs. Pumpkinclanger segment was on.

I was weirded out by the giant baby even at five. LOL. But Mom thought it was hilarious and I think because of that I started seeing those scenes in a different light myself and finding them funny. Nowadays, I'm alternately weirded out or amused, depending on what happens.

I remember not liking the shrunken Chief sketch and finding it weird. I also distinctly remembered it was a Patty episode. I think it was The Cave Art Caper. I still don't like it, but I turn a blind eye to it now, pretty much. (No, that was not the other really disturbing sketch I mentioned.)

EDIT: I knew I'd forget something. Chumps D'Elysees, from the second season, is also one of my fondest memories. There's a hilarious running gag throughout the episode involving the Dying Informant's predicament with Eartha Brute putting cement shoes on his feet. It isn't resolved until the very ending credits, when a little boy helps him get free! LOLOLOL. I totally remember watching that and laughing. I think Mom saw it too.

EDIT #2: And I should have thought to mention the sketch from season 2, in what I'm sure is The Boll Weevil Retrieval, where a 16-ton anvil falls from the ceiling and it looks like Greg was killed. Totally one of the most bizarre scenarios, with Rockapella coming in harmonizing a mournful tune, and Greg comes in and tries to tell them he's okay, and Sean is pushing him away because he's so intent on examining the cardboard cutout that somehow got under the anvil. LOL. It creeped me out at first, but I pretty much relaxed as soon as the real Greg showed up. I saw it repeatedly because it was attached to a favorite episode, and I know I really really loved The Boll Weevil Retrieval for some reason. ♥

... And it just occurred to me the other day that the seemingly random amount of 16 tons was probably a reference to that old song. LOL.
