RP/fic plot.
Sep. 29th, 2009 11:39 amThis Duke RP/story keeps getting darker and darker. o.o **drew a picture based on some images she was getting when she listened to Fallen, and ended up with Duke after he barely escaped being killed.** He's staring with haunted, hollow eyes, stunned by what happened. The creeps had set his car to explode and he managed to get out, his clothes torn and ripped, his hair mostly pulled out of the ponytail, and his skin badly cut. (I also have a picture of him as Ryuuji Otogi, and the contrast between the pictures is in itself haunting. He looks so bitter and cold as Ryuuji Otogi.)
He doesn't even know whether to trust David, since the bad guys work in his store smuggling stuff out. (Yep, a redoing of the smuggling angle from the YGO mysteries.) And David has some greedy tendancies, so it's possible he would align himself with them. But fate throws the two together as necessary allies and Duke is forced to trust him as they try to unravel the mystery. David eventually goes undercover pretending to work with them and bringing Duke inside information.
As Ryuuji Otogi, Duke also has occasional, uncomfortable encounters with the friends from his old life. They note similarities between him and Duke, which he tries to play down. It pushes him to go to such extremes to conceal his identity as using fuscia punk makeup under his eyes and also wearing gloves so his fingerprints can't be tracked, just in case the bad guys get suspicious too. His flirting tendancies also diminish, first from necessity, later because the more he is on the run for his life, he just doesn't feel like it anymore. It was always mostly a facade anyway, and now he's adopted a new mask.
Duke and David eventually become close friends through their partnership. David is eventually discovered as a spy and killed, devastating and traumatizing Duke, who tried to prevent it. He grows both bitter and furious, at himself as well as at the ones responsible, believing he is at fault for involving David. Then he is pursued by an assassin, eventually leading to him holed up in a hotel room by himself, half-crazed as he waits with a gun for the killer to come in and find him. The hitman does indeed come, and during the showdown Duke has to kill him for self-defense. But it is also done in anger, as it's the same assassin who killed David.
Duke eventually does manage to bring all of the smugglers to justice and prove that they were the ones who used explosives in his car. But he refuses to reveal himself as Duke Devlin, knowing that after everything that's happened and how he has changed, he can never go back to his old life, where people would expect him to be the same as he always was. Instead he allows Duke Devlin to stay dead and disappears to start over, either as Ryuuji Otogi or someone else. Before he vanishes from Domino City, he visits David's grave.
That would be where the fic ends, if I write the thing. But there would also potentially be a follow-up fic, where Téa finds him and confronts him about him really being Duke. He still denies it, saying Duke is dead. And for him, he truly feels it, believing that the him who was Duke died following the car explosion he physically survived. Téa tells him that part of him can never completely die and then lets him know how much he's actually been missed. They've been looking for him ever since he vanished, believing that somehow he really is Duke. He is stunned by what she says, but tells her that he could never fit in; he never felt he fit in with them, and now he's certain of it. He's seen and done so much that she and the others could not comprehend. She agrees that's true, but says they still want to try to be his friend and support him. Though he is still hesitant and uncomfortable, he finally agrees to come back with her, at least to see how it goes.
And I totally decided David's last name is Tanaka. XD; Now he's the second cousin of the Sonic X Tanaka. **headdesk.**
