Art and Musings
Nov. 30th, 2009 05:02 amTwo inked pictures up! http://www.side7.com/lucky_ladybug66/gallery/ One is the spear picture, so be warned if you have a sensitive stomach. (Of course, it'll look far more horrifying in color....)
I started my follow-up to the Duke ficlit I put up Saturday. And I realized that Desperado, a favorite song of mine by The Eagles, is another *perfect* Duke song!
(You know, it's hilarious that all the songs I have for Duke so far are one-word titles except Where Will You Go.)
Desperado, why don't you come to your senses?
You been out ridin' fences for so long now
Oh, you're a hard one
I know that you got your reasons
These things that are pleasin' you
Can hurt you somehow
Don't you draw the queen of diamonds, boy
She'll beat you if she's able
You know the queen of hearts is always your best bet
Now it seems to me, some fine things
Have been laid upon your table
But you only want the ones that you can't get
Desperado, oh, you ain't gettin' no younger
Your pain and your hunger, they're drivin' you home
And freedom, oh freedom well, that's just some people talkin'
Your prison is walking through this world all alone
Don't your feet get cold in the winter time?
The sky won't snow and the sun won't shine
It's hard to tell the night time from the day
You're losin' all your highs and lows
Ain't it funny how the feeling goes away?
Desperado, why don't you come to your senses?
Come down from your fences, open the gate
It may be rainin', but there's a rainbow above you
You better let somebody love you, before it's too late
And here's a question I've been pondering. I know I'm not the only one to see Duke as a loner. Other people I know, and even people I've never met, think of him the same. These are both people who have seen the dub and people who have seen the original, so it must be something that carries over. So, what is it? What canon evidence is there to support it? Was there something said in the Japanese version that implies it? Or is it just a feeling we take from the episodes, never directly said, but indicated from his actions? He's friendly enough, but he doesn't ever seem to talk about his personal life. (Neither does Bakura. He only mentioned anything at all when he was asked about the Millennium Ring. But with Bakura, it was directly said, in the manga and the first series, at least, that he was a loner.) And ... well, honestly, I don't recall him ever being invited along on the adventures, in the anime, at least. (I think it's safe to say he was invited to Egypt in the manga.) He only comes if he gets involved somehow (or if he invites himself along).
