More Autor Musings
Apr. 2nd, 2010 10:06 amRandom Observations:
- Autor’s scream in episode #21 is a lot more pained in English than Japanese. XD; (I’m so terrible. I actually switched between the English and Japanese deliberately to compare it.) And according to someone in the comm, it likely really was lightning and not a similar force field. Oak trees, interestingly, are associated with lightning. I guess that also explains Sailor Jupiter’s Oak Evolution lightning power in the final Sailor Moon season…. So dang. OW. Years ago I asked about lightning/electricity striking people down and I was told that if it’s strong enough to knock you out, it’s pretty serious, because for electricity to knock you out, your heart actually stops briefly. o.o Autor was thrown several yards, landed unconscious, and later awakened for a moment only to pass out again. I wonder if I didn’t have him hurt enough in my episode #21 addendum.
- The English VA makes him a sound a lot more arrogant. With the Japanese one, though his words are definitely arrogant, his tone isn’t so smug.
- The voice actor commentary is a disappointment. At least what I tried to listen to on the final episode was. XD; They barely talked about the show itself at all. Mostly they were just randomly gabbing and being silly. Now the staff commentary, on the other hand, I actually learned stuff from. And yes, I rarely listen to commentary, but I really wanted background info so much that I was messing with it this time.
- Among the staff comments on episode #24, they noted Autor’s insecurity and his need to feel important. They also described him as being more morally ambiguous compared to Fakir. Which I kind of agree with and kind of don’t. He’s definitely obsessed with the whole power aspect (and interestingly, they also said that Autor seemed more like the type whom Drosselmeyer would have chosen for his heir. Though they didn't mention that Drosselmeyer seemed to ignore Autor completely on the show), but his actions still seem to show a person who doesn’t want harm to come to people. He totally goes the extra mile for Fakir and Uzura (and by helping Fakir, everyone) at the end. He could have died!
And I’m kind of creeped out that I feel like I’ve seen the voice actor clip from disc 4 where Autor’s English VA is recording his first lines in episodes #15 and #17. I could not have seen that before! I only saw disc 1 from the library four years ago, then couldn’t wait for the rest and watched the whole rest of the series on YouTube over two days. So unless I somehow saw that clip on YouTube too, there’s no way I could have seen it any other time.
