... Give me a break.
Mar. 15th, 2011 11:03 amAfter five years, I finally was able to see the second Knight Rider episode in which Jimmy Murphy played a part. I also took screengrabs. The first time he was on the show, he played a convict. The second time, he was a tough businessman who refused to sell out to a crook who was buying out other businesses. He ended up murdered by a hitman with a supercharged car who pushed his car through a railroad barrier and onto the tracks.
I think that's only the second time one of his characters has died. The other time I've seen was in the first of two appearances on Peter Gunn.
But anyway ... he's a oneshot character. He's on screen for less than ten minutes (although he's mentioned by other characters throughout the remainder of the episode). There's no indication he was able to get out of the car before it hit.
The explosion, however, was horrifying enough to send pieces of the car flying everywhere. Since it's never really specified one way or the other, I could easily say that no body was recovered because of everything blowing into pieces. And then I could have it that he did manage to get out of the car, barely in time, but was thrown by the explosion. I could even toss in some amnesia for good measure.
But who in the world would even care other than me? If the show has a fandom, why would any of the fans give a flying fig what happened to such a minor character?
It would be kind of interesting to see if I could make such a fic more than just gratifying fanservice for myself. If I could make it a full-fledged sequel to the episode, with crooks and all that good stuff, I might be able to swing it.
The show, by the way, has all the campy cheesiness you would expect from something in the eighties. But it's pretty exciting. And I love the computerized, talking car KITT's personality. He's awesome. I ended up deciding to watch all the episodes on the disc, which I had not planned to do.
And I finished my initial run-through of Will the Real Baby Face Please Stand Up? My assessment is ... that it really isn't as epic as the first one. And it kind of disappoints me. I remember thinking years ago that I wished I could make the story longer, but I wasn't sure how to do it without it just looking padded. Maybe if I could just expand even further on some of the existing scenes and add more introspection from characters other than Micky, that would help. One thing I love so much about The Return of Baby Face Morales is the introspection. And everything just feels so epic. I'm not giving up on the sequel yet. I want to see if I can turn it epic without making it look deliberately padded.
... And I have three copies of the song Valleri. Only recently did I realize each one is different. I had been thinking I had two versions, with one in duplicate. This is not true. I have:
- Missing Links 2, with the original TV show version from the first season
- The Birds, The Bees, and The Monkees, with the later, album version
- Daydream Believer and Other Hits, with the version played on the show in the second season, including in The Monkees Blow Their Minds
Tentatively, I'm supposing the latter is the single version released in '68. Funny, I always thought that was the same version as what's on The Birds, The Bees, and The Monkees.
Of the three, my favorite is definitely the last one, followed by the first one. I don't know; I just don't care much for the album version and its fade-out. The notes bringing the song to a close in the other versions are just so awesome.
How did I discover that the versions are all different? Well, the first season TV show version ends faster than the later one. I realized this after listening closely and knew that there had to be another version out there. Then I was playing the third copy and I realized that was the second season TV show version. I was thrilled. That version is just so epic. Although maybe I think that largely because I adore the episode in which it's played and because the musical romp is just hilarious.
