YES!

I finally had the chance to pick up The Rise and Fall of Carl Kolchak from Borders today. It is wonderful! I like it a lot better then the Sherlock Holmes crossover. It has much more meat to it. And there are some awesome scenes between Carl and Tony. One of them eerily mirrors a scene that was supposed to go into the ghost town fic. I mean, it so eerily mirrors it that I'm a bit weirded out that I wrote it like I did. The scene no longer features, and perhaps that's just as well; let the graphic novel keep it so there's just one of them floating around.

I've submitted a review for Amazon, as there are things that the other reviewers didn't touch on, both good and bad, that I wanted to mention. Hopefully that will go up soon; it's in queue now.

And after a discussion with Kaze, I determined that the main thing I dislike about my time loop idea is the fact of my continuing dislike of time travel (which could easily fill up an entry of its own, so I won't bother ranting on that here). She mused that maybe at the end they wonder WTH happened because time travel is physically impossible and leave it where they and the readers don't know what really happened. That gave me the idea that maybe there wasn't really time travel; maybe the creep tormenting Tony has both him and Kolchak in his own private altered reality, so they think there's time travel, etc., but there isn't; it's all part of the altered reality. However, the way I came up with for breaking the cycle would still stand. I determined that maybe Tony breaks it by managing to get himself killed instead of Kolchak. Then Kolchak is left kneeling on the floor, shocked and stunned, with Tony's body. Then I could pretty much have everything as I wanted it. Kolchak wouldn't really die multiple times in the time loop; that would be the product of the altered reality. But Tony really would die breaking the spell. Then I still need to decide how to revive Tony, but that's not a big problem; I'm sure I can manage it easy.

So now I'm more interested in at least tinkering with the concept. Maybe I'll try writing a blurb later of when Tony breaks the cycle. I also have an idea of an earlier scene where, after Tony is beginning to come unhinged by his failed attempts to keep Kolchak from dying in the time loop, he tries desperately to tell Kolchak what's been happening. Kolchak doesn't believe him, or at least, is weirded out and thinks Tony needs to rest. It would be a strange role reversal.
