My thoughts earlier: ... You know you looked at too many My Little Pony fanarts when, while trying to write the next bit of dialogue for a Perry fic in your head, you say "Fluttershy" instead of "Della Street." **headdesk.**

But seriously. Two weeks ago or so, two friends independent of each other approached me about the recent My Little Pony series. I've always loved the Ponies; I collected what I could through the years, which was never much, and have been thrilled at each renewal of interest by Hasbro. I've meant to see the new series, but just didn't have access. When provided with said access, I immediately went to town and started watching. I'm almost done with season 1 now.

The show is highly popular with adults as well as with kids, due to its well-rounded characters and usually excellent writing. And I definitely see why.

Every one of the main six characters is very three-dimensional. They all have things I like and dislike about them, just like with real people. And they continually shift around on my favorites list because of how their characters keep developing.

Fluttershy's position amuses me the most. Originally she was at the bottom of the list because she just seemed like a goody-two-shoes (four-shoes?). But she can be tough when she has to be (and very occasionally has strange, strange outbursts), and she ended up at the top of my list, along with Twilight Sparkle and Rarity.

There's always a moral or two to be learned from each episode, but they don't beat it into your head; it comes naturally from the episode's contents. Sometimes I find other morals that they don't address.

For the most part, I've highly enjoyed all the episodes. While I really liked the lesson in episode #9, however, concerning not judging someone without knowing them, some of the goings-on in the episode were just too brain-breaking for me. I also didn't care much for #5, with Rainbow Dash's friend Gilda. I think the writers set that one up badly and Gilda, despite having acted horribly, really wasn't given a fair chance to change. When she accidentally set off all those pranks Rainbow peppered Pinkie Pie's party with, naturally she thought the party was to be mean to her after how she had acted. And that undid any good that Pinkie could have done by trying to be kind to her with the party. But that was never addressed, oh no; Gilda was just brought out to be so awful for being upset with the pranks. And then I thought #19 was kind of silly, with the Diamond Dogs. They were weird. But Rarity's awesomeness made the episode very watchable anyway. EDIT: Oh, and #21. I wasn't sure what to make of it. In some ways, the throwbacks to old Westerns were fun. In other ways, they made me roll my eyes a bit. And death by apple pie? Please. I suppose it isn't any sillier than death by whipped cream in Bugsy Malone, but I guess it's all in context, and for this show it just didn't seem to fit.

I think my favorite episode is #17, where Fluttershy is trying to babysit three hyperactive Ponies. She's having a hard time handling it, as I would be, but eventually she gets to be assertive and awesome and stare down a cockatrice to protect them.
