The strange quest for a Raphael plushie
Jul. 13th, 2014 04:43 pmSo a long time ago I decided that Raphael is my second-favorite Turtle. Possibly even my first favorite. I find his and Leo's interaction intriguing and like how furious Raph becomes over injustices. Sometimes I think he's actually the most sensitive of the bunch, because of how deeply it affects him.
I'd like to get a Raphael plush. Problem is, it isn't easy to find the right one.
Last year I got a big Leo plush, at an amazing and awesome 24 inches for only $14.97. Wal-Mart has those in stock again, and they have Raph as well as Leo. Unfortunately, the company wasn't creative and gave Raph the same type of calm and pleasant expression as Leo (and Donny and Mike). In other words ... serene Raph. It is just so wrong. And the particular ones Wal-Mart has really look stoned.
Build-a-Bear is making Turtles plushies now, but they're only 17 inches for $25. Plus, I don't entirely like their Raph's expression, either. He's smirking. Which is better than looking serene, but smirking still doesn't seem quite right. When I think of Raph, I think of fire and "GRRR!" and the gritted teeth expression that a lot of the figures have.
I think my favorite Raph plush is the talking one, but he's $30. Too, too much. And $25 really seems too much, too, when those plushies are 17 inches and I can get one that's 24 inches for only $15.97. But that means serene or stoned Raph.
I can't win.
