My favorite WSS characters are probably Bernardo and Anita but I do like the other characters you mentioned too. I find it hard to show much sympathy for the Jets due to the way they treated Anita, I know Baby John was more a pawn in the situation and as far as I recall Ice wasn't there but the way the others behaved makes it hard for me to care about them. I certainly think the Jets are given more attention in the film as opposed to the Sharks but I've always felt Bernardo was a more well rounded character, he has flaws obviously but at least you get this glimpse of him as a concerned (if not overly protective) brother and a loving boyfriend plus you kinda feel like he's burdened with trying to protect his whole family. I guess I tend to like characters who I feel have hidden depths, like the way you are able to realistically flesh out Schrank's character for example. With a character like Tony for example, I know the movie is telling me to root for him but I find him incredibly naive and a bit dull tbh.
