The manga is very serious, yes. I like that the anime had more lighter things going on at times, but sometimes it got a little too silly for me.
Yeah, they were pretty authentic teenagers in the anime, particularly the boy-craziness. But it still got annoying, particularly when most of the Inner Senshi would sit around cooing over the guys. Oy vey. Not all teenagers are like that. I honestly wasn't.
I love the extreme loyalty, but the succumbing to their fates is sad. Sailor Moon herself tried to fight against it when she thought it was wrong, though, such as the ordeal concerning Sailor Saturn.
