So I haven't been watching Gotham or Once Upon a Time, but I've been keeping track of what's going on with them, and I'm not pleased with either one.

On the Gotham front, they are going the psychotic Riddler path. I am not happy at all with that. He went berserk on the nasty boyfriend of the girl he likes and stabbed him multiple times until he was dead. I don't know how or why they first decided they wanted a psycho Riddler in the recent comics, but to me it really cheapens the character. He's so much more interesting when he doesn't kill people.

That pretty much does it for me with Gotham; between that and suddenly getting far more graphic in violence, I'm done. Although I do like that while Jim Gordon had to save Barbara Keane from a psycho, he isn't still in love with her and told as much to Leslie. (Also, apparently Barbara flips out on Leslie? I would like to know why. If she feels like Leslie stole Jim away from her, that really ticks me off. Barbara is the one who left Jim, and that was before he ever met Leslie! I wouldn't put it past her to blame Leslie, though. She is so seriously messed up.)

Also, I'm not sure what to think of what I've heard about Selina pushing a bad guy out the window. From what I read, it seemed like he was threatening to go tell the Wayne Industries board members what the kids knew, and then it was very likely the kids would be killed, so I suppose it could be argued that it was in defense of her and Bruce, but I dunno. I thought Selina was another character who didn't kill people. And it just seems disturbing in general when it's a kid doing it.

I'll probably keep reading about the episodes, but I really don't intend to watch the show ever again. Ugh.

And on Once Upon a Time, they actually got really close to actually doing the Beauty and the Beast thing with Belle saving Gold when he's dying, and then they suddenly, randomly brought in the Sorcerer's Apprentice to suck out the essence of the Dark One from his heart, and that's left him so weakened that now he's in a magical coma. People speculate this is so Robert Carlyle will have a lighter workload at the beginning of season 5, since he's busy promoting a new movie of his? Meanwhile, the essence of the Dark One tries to get into Regina as a new host, but Emma saves her and takes it on herself. So now Emma is the new Dark One.

You know, the creators actually admitted that on Lost, they made stuff up as they went along and never intended to resolve the mysteries they created. They just did bizarre stuff because it attracted viewers and they couldn't care less if they then turned against the viewers by not resolving anything. It certainly looks like the same type of patterns on Once: bad characterization, plots and characters not making sense anymore, and every random weird thing being thrown into the mix, just to try to increase the ratings.

One of the fans said it really looks like said creators have given every Rumbeller the finger, with their refusal to simply let Belle save Rumpel, as per the fairy tale this arc was semi-paralleling, and allow a happy ending for them. I totally agree. They also gave Rumbellers the finger when they refused to let the wedding be happy and instead put in all that weird and random stuff about the fake dagger and Rumpel apparently not trusting Belle. They try to claim characterization was fine and IC, but at least where Rumpel's interaction with Belle was concerned, it really wasn't. You know, whatever happened to this show being about bringing back the happy endings? When was the last time any of the main characters, not just Rumpel and Belle, really got a happy ending?

I'm wondering, too, what will happen when Robert's contract is up at the end of next season. I have a hard time believing he's really happy with the way the show is turning out, even if he's too professional to say anything against it. I can't believe he'll want to renew his contract. I wish, if he wants out, they'd just let him and Belle be happy and leave Storybrooke for a new life elsewhere, since the town doesn't care about them anyway, even when they try to do the right thing and help. (Season 3A, anyone?) But I bet anything that they'd get a highly unsatisfying exit, instead.

I have to admit, I wonder how well the show would even go on without them. In spite of the crummy writing, many fans kept watching just to see Robert Carlyle, because he's such an amazing actor. With pretty much all characters, including his, being written OOC these days, I really kind of wonder how well the show could go on without him. I would be kind of amused if ratings dropped dramatically. That would show them for making such crappy writing that Robert felt he had to leave.

But I'm getting ahead of myself. That isn't really something to worry about for another year. And they've ruined the character so much, I wonder if it even would be something to worry about. Heh. It might be a release to get him out of what's become a really preposterously badly written show.

Meanwhile, even though part of me would like to write my little season 3B AU vignettes some more, it just feels so pointless. If the show had ended, maybe it wouldn't be so difficult to think about, but when it keeps going on and canon keeps getting worse and worse, it's so hard to ignore. Even though everything is OOC and nothing makes sense and it's really an insult and a disservice to the show and the characters the way they used to be, it's still canon. And writing AU fics doesn't change that or help me blot it out. I really feel more like washing my hands of everything connected with the show, even though I'll probably keep reading about the episodes anyway. But really, it's not even worth it. It's just a complete and total mess.

... But part of me would still like to get that gift set of Disney Belle and her prince and maybe touch the prince up a bit and pretend he's Gold.

I also bemoan the fact that it seems like you can't get any Belles with removable clothing except in expensive gift sets. Well, you can get a separate Belle from The Disney Store, but I actually like the ones sold in Wal-Mart and Toys R Us better. I think Mattel makes them? But seriously, why can't you buy Belle with removable clothing when you can buy other Princesses that way, like Cinderella and Aurora and Rapunzel and the Frozen girls? It's really a gyp.
