Yet another of Lisa's awesome CC icons. X3

And here is a blurb. It's not the one I was planning to post; I was reading over T&D and got the idea randomly. The weird computer problems at the beginning are inspired by some trouble I had a couple days ago. **particularly amused by the computer's message.**

Time period is both T&D and post-S&M.

He was working late at the company that night. The only sounds were that of his rapid typing, and the low hum of the computer. At least until the machine made a very strange noise.

He stopped and frowned, his hands poised above the keyboard as he listened. It sounded like a screech or a wail of protest. And immediately the monitor's screen turned the dreaded shade of blue, as a message in white began to scroll across the middle.

There is an error with Windows and it is now shutting down. If you have any work unsaved, too bad for you, sucker!

He ran a hand through his spiked hair in frustration. "I knew we should have switched to Linux," he muttered.

What was even wrong? He had not even done anything except typing a reply to a prospective business client! This was ridiculous! Now the computer was restarting itself, except it wasn't. Now it had shifted to a black screen of doom. And any key he pressed caused that awful shriek to make itself known again. Not even CONTROL ALT DELETE worked. He would have to turn it off completely and then try again.

He reached for the Off button, pressing it firmly. The machine reacted instantly, and exploded, heavy smoke rising in the room. He was thrown back several feet to crash into the plate glass window. Miraculously, it did not shatter, but now the wailing sound was all around him, being drilled into his ears. He gasped, clapping his hands over them.

"What is that?!" he yelled in frustration.

Now it was coupled with the sound of incessant banging. "Cloud! Open the door!"

"It's not locked!" Cloud yelled back, coughing on the fumes.

"Then why can't I get in?"

He started awake with a gasp. He was sprawled on the floor by the couch, just as in his dream, and smoke was everywhere. A real cough rose in his throat, and he promptly covered his nose and mouth. What . . . what was this?! His whole apartment was in flames!

"Cloud!"

The pounding on the door was real, too. Slowly he got to his knees. He would have to get up and open it. . . . If he could. His eyes were watering badly from the smoke, and his legs felt so weak. . . .

The door crashed open, swinging on its hinges. Sephiroth had rammed into it, and now he was quickly coming into the room. Reaching Cloud and leaning down, he grabbed the blond's arm and hauled him up.

"You have to get out of here," he ordered. "The entire building is on fire."

It was unbelievable enough that it was his apartment. And now it was all of them? "How?" he demanded, stumbling before catching his balance. Carefully he began to pull himself away from Sephiroth, heading for the door.

Sephiroth swiftly followed after him. There was no telling how long he had been in here, inhaling smoke. He looked as though he had just woken up. If Sephiroth had not come, he might have perished.

"I don't know," the silver-haired man said, gaining the hallway with his assistant. "Some idiot may have been careless while smoking a cigarette."

Cloud staggered to the staircase, grasping the banister as he made his way down. It was too much to try to take in all at once. Maybe once he was outside, with fresh air, it would all hit him. Right now, there was just a numb feeling.

"Why did you come here?" he asked.

"I was driving back from the company and I saw the building was on fire," Sephiroth replied as he followed after the blond.

Gaining the bottom, Cloud stumbled to the door and pushed it open. The night air rushed at him all at once, but it was welcome. He took a deep breath, gulping it in, as he made his way onto the front lawn. Firefighters were arriving now, and the other tenants were on the lawn, staring at the scene in stunned disbelief.

He followed their gaze to the building he and Sephiroth had just vacated. He could barely see any of it now. The fire was so thick and fierce. Slowly he shook his head.

"Looks like you saved my life," he remarked.

Sephiroth grunted. "You can stay with me until you find somewhere else to live," he said.

Cloud blinked, looking over at him. "Really?"

His boss nodded. "I have a large house. It will be sufficient."

Cloud frowned deeply, leaning forward on the top porch step as he gazed off into the darkened, spacious yard. Sephiroth was still there; he could sense the other, resting his back against the railing. It was strange, for them to be on the porch together, especially now, when they had their memories again. And yet, so much had happened in the past weeks.

"I asked Zack once, how long we'd really been on Earth without remembering anything."

Sephiroth shifted slightly, glancing down at him. "Oh?"

Cloud frowned. "He said it had been five months," he announced. "And that means that the thing with the fire in my apartment really happened. It wasn't just another made up memory."

"What of it?" Sephiroth returned, sounding bored.

Cloud leaned back, looking up to study the other. Sephiroth was watching him, and even though he had not sounded interested, it was clear from his expression and his fixed gaze that he actually was, at least somewhat.

"You saved my life." Now that sounded weird and out of place.

Sephiroth shrugged noncommittally. "It seems so."

Cloud looked away once more. It was not even the only time it had occurred since this odd experience had begun. Sephiroth had saved him again after regaining his memories. He had not betrayed Cloud on this world, as the outraged blond had believed. However he had appeared to be, that was the way he truly was.

He glanced back at the yard. Behind him, he sensed that Sephiroth was doing the same, and relaxing at the realization that there would not be a confrontation.

Aww. *blushes* I gotta say, though, I do like how that icon came out.

Blue screen of DEATH! *cackles*

Anyway...

Neat! Oh, man. Poor confused Cloud. XD *pats him* T&D's still like... the best universe ever. XD

In other FF7 news... Tiny Yuffie! Ohhh, I hope we get clearer scans next week. I'm really interested in the first scan; it looks a bit like the Shinra building is wrecked, so... ghost!Zack?
