1. I don't know if this is an unpopular opinion or not, but I did not really like any of the Detective Boys when they first popped up. I shared Conan's frustration that they kept interfering with the crimes and not realizing the real dangers they were getting into. And it seemed like they hindered the plot, with their episodes usually being fillers. But Ayumi endeared herself to me pretty quickly, and I'm usually not opposed any longer to Mitsuhiko or Genta, though Genta always annoyed me the most of the three. He seemed so arrogant and downright rude to Conan at first, and it still irritates me when Genta decides to assert himself as the big-shot detective with Conan as a sidekick. But Genta has good qualities too, and I really like his loyalty and sense of justice, when he uses it.
2. Though I'm not opposed to Shinichi/Ran, it sometimes does seem that the movies lay it on pretty thick. I usually don't mind, like I didn't in movie 8, but movie 1 kinda got on my nerves a bit. Maybe because it seemed cheesier there. ^^; I like cheese, but not all the time. Depends on the presentation.
3. Kid's appearances in movie 10 seemed pretty random for the most part, as if it was blatant fanservice that the main plot could survive without. Not that I have a problem with Kid fanservice. XD I have mixed feelings about movie 10 overall, but it was definitely fun, and Kid's presence added to it.
1)I've the same feelings before the vol 18. For me, DB were just a tool for Gosho to mades pointless filler between two complex mysteries which needs more sweet and research to work.XD Then with Ai in the team, my opinions have changed. The friendship between Ai and Ayumi was so sweet(ok, Ayumi would have pawned me sooner or later with her sweetness of doom, but with Ai's help it happens sooner...Xp XD) and his crush with Ai mades me love Mitsuhiko(Yes I love everyone who is nice to Ai), and now I found the character more interessing. After all, he is the more intelligent and mature of the db, but compared to Conan and Ai, he feels like a moron, and even if he would never have much courage, he try his best to fight his fear. I loved flawed character with self-esteem problem who try their best to fight their flaws, so...X3 And for Genta...Well, my opinion is pretty similar to yours for now....^^;
2)Oh yes, I could hardly stand the S/R scene in the movies too. It looks so much like "Ok guys, contractually, we should mades a (pseudo)romantic scene in each movie, now wait until the end of the sugarcoated scene. Don't worry, nothing original would come, you only want easy fluff and we only want our paycheck". And it was so clichéd...(sigh) Ok my lack of love for the pairing should influence me but for now, the only S/R scene that I've love in the movies was in the movie 8...because it was so fun to see Ran yelling at Shinichi with godo reasons.XD
3)There is something else that blatant fan service in the movie 10?XD I found it was worse with Sato and Takagi's appearance, or with Heiji and Kazuha's parents appearance..oh and Eri's appearance...The kinds of scene which have not a single purpose except fan service.>_>; At least, Kid have a role in the plot, and it was clever to disguise him in Hakuba without showing it to the fans in a an explicite way.X3
I discovered the DB at the same time as Ai, so unlike you two, I don't have the privilege of knowing before. That said I doubt I would have disliked them much, even if I still don't particularly care for their cases. (Eg: I see a filler with the DB and am disappointed when Ai is absent. XD;;)
Genta covers you all in rice. >D *icons at & flees*
