Rants and Musings
Jan. 8th, 2010 10:09 amHmmm. You know what? I think the flying numbers in the Japanese version of the duel against Panik, counting down his remaining turns, are silly, ridiculous, and melo/overdramatic. I'm glad the dub removed them. XD;
I also think I don't like that no one knew why Bakura was missing in the manga until the final volume of Battle City. I mean, gosh, all that missing opportunity to be horrified and angst over him. ;__; And it seems kind of anti-climatic to have them learn only then, since not long after, Yami Marik is defeated and Bakura is restored.
My biggest problem, though, is that in the manga, everyone seemed to forget Bakura was even missing! There was a moment or two where they wondered, but unless I missed something, they don't even conduct a search for him! And he's supposed to be closer to Yugi-tachi in the manga than in the anime, too! He's invited with them to Duelist Kingdom, for instance, and he's present during the early Battle City duels. And yet they still forgot he was missing?! Yami Y certainly acted like he had forgotten when Yami Marik showed the Millennium Ring.
I totally prefer in the anime, where Yugi and Téa look everywhere for him and then go up to the roof while the Shadow Game is on. The scene where Yami Y confronts Yami Marik after Yami Bakura's defeat was very intense and poignant.
But then of course, also in the anime, where Bakura isn't as close to them, Yugi didn't even include him when he mused over all the friends he'd made throughout the series! It showed pictures of everyone, and even Duke was there, but Bakura was left out. That was in episode 199. And since there were pictures, I'm pretty sure it wasn't a dub mistake.
Of course, since the anime Pharaoh's Memories is pretty screwed up anyway, you could probably take that with a grain of salt. XD; But in both anime and manga, Bakura seems to be presented as actually being quite alone even after meeting Yugi-tachi, from these examples and from others, especially in the anime.
