May-December Romance with Nancy Drew
Apr. 8th, 2013 05:03 amSo I've been keeping busy, buying some G1 Ponies, and teetering between "What the heck am I doing buying old toys?" and "Yaaay Ponies!" most of the time. They're so gorgeous. But I'm having trouble with the sellers not always listing every flaw with the Ponies, either because they don't notice or because they don't seem to think it's consequential. And some of what they didn't mention would have been very consequential to me. I think only three out of nine Ponies have arrived exactly as they were described. I'm getting so frustrated that I think I will totally switch to G3s for a while. MIB Ponies! YES! I already have my eye on a gorgeous one.
And I've been updating a lot of fics, including my Nancy Drew one. (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/8940274/1/) I was a bit worried that I wouldn't be able to grasp the characters' voices again, but there was no problem. Once again, the dialogue flowed. I love writing for Nancy and company.
As with the first chapter, I debated making an icon of one of the screengrabs of her and Peter Howard dancing together. And, also as with the first chapter, I finally decided not to. I don't think I've mentioned my ideas of a possible romance between them anywhere but here and on Tumblr, and I'm worried that people in the comm might get bent out of shape, suspecting from the icon that I'm thinking of pairing them up (even if temporarily). Apparently Nancy/Ned is extremely popular among fans; the fanfic comm is all about them and never about solving mysteries. Or at least, it seems that way from the pages I went through. I can imagine people getting upset both that I'd be pairing Nancy with someone other than Ned and that the someone is a lot older than her.
I'm kind of wondering if I should have Nancy somewhere between her book and TV show ages. In the show, I'm pretty sure she and the others are at least 21. In the books (other than the really old originals), she's 18. So I was thinking of maybe 20ish. So far I haven't mentioned any ages for them at all and I might keep it that way.
