Alright, that's it.
Apr. 11th, 2013 12:39 pmOkay, I've been pretty patient, and haven't ranted while I've wanted to these last few days, but now I'm really mad.
It's one thing to dislike something I'm doing. Maybe people don't believe me when I say that doesn't bother me, but it's true---if they're nice about it. The problem is, most people who don't like what I'm doing really aren't very nice about it, intentionally or not.
One gal in a fandom doesn't care for my updating things to the present-day, but she was oh so sweet about it when she mentioned it. I really appreciated her diplomatic approach and the fact that she said kind things about what I wrote in addition to her little grievance.
I do not appreciate someone who acts as though I must be the stupidest person in the world for actually daring to write oneshot characters into major parts in stories and that I would only do something like that if I'm completely out to lunch and needing to be "clued in" to reality. That is rude, insulting, and uncalled-for.
I even publicly mentioned in a note on the story (a note which this person should have seen) that I knew someone would complain eventually. Does that sound like someone who isn't aware of what she's doing? I am perfectly aware that many people don't like oneshot characters and have always been aware of it. But I am interested in them and I know some other people are, too. And I have interested readers who have read these stories all the way along and are still reading them and have even expressed specific interest in these oneshot characters. A couple of them have even said they'll be sad when the stories are over.
And yet these other two people arrogantly stand there and act like I'm losing my entire base of readers because the oneshot characters are even more in the forefront now than before. So those two aren't pleased. That's their affair. But to proclaim that no one is interested, just because they're not, is absolute nonsense. I'm getting more positive attention on this story at the moment than on any other thing I'm currently writing. And I have public proof of it in many of the other peoples' reviews. There is also proof that the other reviewers enjoy both the oneshot characters and the assorted cameo appearances by characters from other shows.
To add insult to injury, I was in the process of doing something to try to get the show's main characters back to the forefront of action right when the first person complained. Those characters heavily feature in the current chapter, which this second person would know if they read or even skimmed it. They gave no indication that they had done so when they complained. And they acted as though they read my note in response to the anonymous first person, yet they apparently ignored where I made it clear that I have always been very aware that someone would eventually complain. Instead they try to make me sound like a fool by saying they're going to get me "clued in" that no one is interested in oneshot characters. And just about the worst insult anyone can give to me is to act like I'm an idiot.
Thumbs down.
