**has been feeling very discouraged the last few days and it came to a head a while ago.** Now I'm in a mood where I don't feel like writing anything, even though I've got plenty to write. I feel like I'd like to do some pointless hurt/comfort. Hurt/comfort and the character relations of such can go a long way in making me perk up. But if I try to write some, I'll probably feel blah about that too, like I did a few days ago.
Right now I honestly don't know if I want to bother posting that ficlit with the minor students at all. I've started adding on to it, and will finish it for myself, but I've never been quite sure what to think of it and I don't know if I want to share it.
I thought I had the Springheel Jack fic almost done too, save the last scene, but something felt really wrong. I finally realized what it was; the climax was all incorrect. What I had as the climax should have been a second encounter. So I changed that. Now I need a new climax. The story will get so long I'll end up wondering if I should post it in chapters.
And does anyone who has seen the Princess Tutu dub or at least the etudes feel like the dub staff just does not really like Autor's character? The voice actor was directed to make him sound snobbish and stuck-up in a way the Japanese VA just didn't. The lines were usually the same, but the delivery was vastly different.
And in the etudes (which explain some of the music on the show), Autor is only mentioned pretty much to be mocked. Dark Mytho comments on the fifth one, "I was considering having Autor co-host this etude, but he's quite the egotist, don't you think?" However, I do think that one was meant as a pot calling the kettle black joke, as Dark Mytho is very much an egotist. Fakir didn't even comment; he just said "Moving along." LOL.
It's the etude on the sixth DVD that really kind of bugs me. For one thing, Neko-Sensei hosts (which is fine) and has some of the oneshot students as co-hosts (also fine). But for some reason, Autor is also present, even though he's not even in the ballet division. He doesn't get any lines, however, which is another thing that irritates me about the etudes. Why won't they let him speak? The only time he's mentioned is when Neko-Sensei asks for someone to answer a question and then sighs and says, "Someone besides you, Mr. Autor." Making it sound like Autor's around all the time in the ballet class being a know-it-all. Now, I wouldn't be surprised if he's that way in the *music* class, where he actually *goes*, but just ... aurgh. Why mention him as being present for a *ballet students'* lesson in music if they aren't even going to let him talk?! If he's there, it would be more likely that it's specifically to offer some of his knowledge.
And then there's the dub staff's commentary on Autor during episode #24, which I've already talked about a couple of times. They do cover his insecurities, which I was happy about, but I simply cannot agree with the musings that since Autor is more interested in the power aspect, he's someone whom Drosselmeyer would prefer having as a direct descendent. Why does Drosselmeyer ignore him completely if that's the case? And the more I watch Autor's episodes, the more I really am convinced that he's an innocent boy, unaware of the immense evils Drosselmeyer is capable of (despite being aware that Story-Spinning powers can be drastically misused and in spite of believing that they are being controlled by Drosselmeyer's Story). Drosselmeyer, I think, would only be interested in him to manipulate him, knowing of his innocence and idolization of Drosselmeyer. But Drosselmeyer didn't find him worth acknowledging even once. The closest he came was mocking Autor's replica of Drosselmeyer's study, though he never spoke of Autor. He just froze Autor in time and walked past him as if he was nothing.
I dunno, between the way the English VA was directed and the etudes and the staff commentary, I really think that the dub staff largely has a surface and shallow view of Autor. Otherwise, for instance, why would the etudes only mock him and never even let him speak?
... And heh. Ranting on that actually felt pretty good. Maybe I'll feel like working on a story now.

Date: 2010-06-02 12:36 am (UTC)Anyways, back on track! When I was ripping my DVDs again, I got bored and decided to watch one of the Etudes while I waited. Strangely enough, it was the one where the VA for Fakir and Autor commenting. And I got the impression of a cold shoulder coming from Fakir. Though, I suppose that's to be expected since it's Fakir. All the same, you've gotten me to warm up to his character lately (and even before then, I was quite intrigued by his depth. I didn't think he was THAT bad). Still it bothered me, like everything you've mentioned here.
Random off note- sorry! I've been really busy for the past few days. And I have the sunburn to improve. Nonetheless- I shall get right onto the RP stuff!
And, if you need an inspiration to write- I stumbled across something the other day. A fanfic contest for a Phantom of the Opera drabble. An actual contest, being held by an actual author. I dunno if you've heard of it but here's a link for more details:
http://www.jenniferlinforth.com/contest.htm
If I decide to enter, the one thing that will kill me is the 300-word limit. T_T Not enough, not enough indeed!

Date: 2010-06-02 03:50 am (UTC)I'm guessing you mean the one with Fakir and Dark Mytho commenting? XD Since the fact Autor was never allowed to speak in the etudes is a large part of my whole rant. Fakir was pretty guarded, but since Mytho was currently off his rocker and spending much of the etude taunting Fakir, it was no surprise. **though is admittedly curious now wondering if there's some alternate etude out there where it's Autor instead of Dark Mytho.**
Owww, sunburn. o.o I can definitely understand being really busy! Holiday weekend probably wasn't the best time to attempt RP planning, LOL.
Sounds awesome! ^^ I'll pass the news on to Crystal, if you haven't already. I haven't ever written in that fandom myself, though maybe I should give it a try. :)

Date: 2010-06-02 04:12 am (UTC)Oh, I meant Raven!Mytho. It was on episode that Autor was in though and I remember Mytho mentioning something of him. My mistake. ^^;
No, I discovered it yesterday right before I left to go to my grandparents and didn't have time to post it anywhere. I meant to put it on my LiveJournal to notify people on my friend's list but I haven't done it yet. (I'm procrastinating with that AMV xD). I've only written one thing for the fandom. And, I got a pretty good response for it. I have say- it's one the pieces of I'm proud of. Though, I think it's gotten such a response because of the implied pairing- Meg/Erik. All the same, that was 4000+ words long. How do they expect me to fit something in just 300 words? xP

Date: 2010-06-02 04:20 am (UTC)Yeah. **nods.** That was the one I mentioned where Mytho mocks Autor and says he's an egotist and Fakir just goes "Moving along." But I do think that was because he knew it was such an ironic comment, with Mytho being an egotist himself under the Raven's spell. If there'd been a visual, I bet Fakir would have narrowed his eyes in displeasure at the comment, though.
Yeah, that was a really good fanfic! I read it when you put it on LJ, but I haven't commented on it anywhere yet. XD; And drabble-length always bewilders me, LOL. I've only written two drabbly-length things, and neither was on purpose. Drabbles may indeed actually be one of the biggest challenges.

Date: 2010-06-02 05:12 am (UTC)Can't really offer much insight on what I think of the dub vs subbed, since I've yet to see either. XD; I've been meaning to sit down and watch an ep...
But yay for ranting possibly helping!

Date: 2010-06-02 05:23 am (UTC)Sub is better all the way for this show. Curiously enough, I rewatched Akt #1 and didn't cringe at it anymore. In fact, I liked it. One scene is a little cracky, but not so much when it's put into perspective with the whole show.

Date: 2010-06-02 04:08 pm (UTC)That is a problem. Two-shot?
I haven't seen enough of the dub yet, but I can imagine what they must have done to Autor and his voice >_> Gaaah. As for the etudes... Man that's annoying. They should know by now that characters from Japanese anime are not to be taken at face value!
...In my head the etudes look like the first section of the Kratos-Sensei short where Lloyd and Colette are on a stage talking to the viewers. I can just imagine Dark!Mytho making the egotist comment, and then Fakir getting the black squiggle thing over his head and going "Moving on..."
Anyway, bleeeeech. Autor needs luff. *hugs him*
Ranting always feels good! ;)

Date: 2010-06-02 04:21 pm (UTC)It probably should be. XD; Or even a three-shot. LOL.
Totally! Especially in a show like Princess Tutu.
LOL!
**hugs him too!**
Buwahaha.
