I have my Gateway back! ^^ I never did find the firewall disk, but I installed the firewall that comes with the McAfee VirusScan. It was able to destroy an evil Trojan horse and some other stuff. Unfortunately, there were a couple of programs it couldn't clean, quarantine, or destroy. @@ Dunno what I'll do about those. But the firewall seems to be blocking their ability to connect to the Internet. X3

I also got the Netscape browser. I prefer it a million times over Internet Explorer. **pats it.** I just hope it won't suddenly stop working sometime, like it did the last time we had it.

And I've been BUSY! Wow, have I mentioned that I actually finished Paper Flowers?! I wrapped it up last week. And I have it all nicely sheet-protected and bound in my Team Rocket binder. XD I just started Candy Clouds a night or so ago. It opens with Marik having dreams of destruction and of Kade calling to him! So cute! ^O^

I've also been tinkering with one of the Megaman ideas I mentioned last entry. I couldn't resist. I went and typed up a scene way ahead of its time. Breathe No More focused a lot on Bass's thoughts and when he got his memory back, he started questioning if what he was doing was right. So now, in the scene I typed up, it's several months later and there's basically big destruction and portals opening up from the cyberworld into the real world and lots and lots of virus thingies and other bad things trying to take over. It's only a first draft of this one scene toward the end, but I wanted to post it somewhere. XD;

Megaman stopped short, staring in disbelief at the sight before him. Another NetNavi was hovering in the air above the instantly multiplying megaviruses, the tattered cloak blowing in the wind of the blizzard. Red eyes gleamed in the night as their owner forcefully held Megaman back with a barrier. Then he gave one of his eerie, almost insane smirks, baring his fanged teeth.

Megaman frowned, banging on the sustance holding the barrier together. "What's going on, Bass?!" he screamed in aggravation. He hadn't seen the misguided Navi for quite some time after he had healed from the Gospel MegaVirus tearing free of him, but now Bass had suddenly reappeared and was going to. . . . What was he going to do? Try merging with these megaviruses as he had done with Gospel? And he was holding Megaman back because he didn't want interference? Frustration welled within the Navi as he found he couldn't break free of the barrier.

Bass's expression suddenly turned deathly serious. "I'm going to test a theory of yours, Megaman," he replied. He had struggled with his thoughts and feelings for a long while, but now he felt that he had at last found what it was he needed to do. And he was going to do it now. Megaman was right that he didn't want interference. Megaman would try to stop him if he could. And Bass didn't like being stopped.

Megaman clenched his fists, confused. "What are you talking about, Bass?!" he demanded. "What theory of mine?!" What was he up to?!

Perhaps if Megaman hadn't been so concerned about Roll and the others who had all been either trapped or destroyed by the viruses, he would have realized what Bass's plan was. But he had never dreamed that his words and thoughts would have made any difference on Bass. Indeed, it was mostly Megaman's actions that had taught the Navi once known as The Black Shadow. By saving Bass from deletion months earlier, Megaman had shown him another way of life, one that didn't involve revenge and hatred.

Bass looked ahead at the mass of destruction and chaos. "Your theory that people deserve to live," he said coldly. Perhaps . . . for once . . . he could make Dr. Cossack proud of him. The man truly hadn't betrayed him. Bass had stumbled upon him and had discovered that what the holographic message Serenade had shown had been true, after all. Cossack was heartsick over what had happened to Bass. And some part of humanness, some sliver of goodness within the Navi, had made him not want Cossack to know what he had become. So he had observed in silence and then quietly had left. He had truly been wrong and misguided for years. Many humans had, indeed, betrayed him and wanted him dead. But Cossack never had. He believed that Bass truly had been deleted by the rogue NetNavis. And Bass wanted him to continue thinking it. If, by chance, Cossack ever learned the truth, he would also learn that, in the end, Bass had been noble. "Let's see if it's true," he spoke again.

At that moment, Megaman suddenly understood. A cold realization of what Bass was going to do came over him. "No!" he yelled, struggling against the barrier. Somehow he had to get through! He couldn't let Bass sacrifice himself. There had to be another way. . . . Some other way. . . . Any other way!

Bass increased the barrier's hold. "You can't stop me, Megaman," he uttered. In some way . . . the other Navi had saved Bass from himself. As he darted into the eye of the virus mass, he had never felt more free. This was the right choice. For once he had made the right choice.

The resulting damage was cataclysmic. The barrier bubble Bass had created was thrown back harshly at the first of the explosions, causing Megaman to tumble over and over within its confines. With a gasp he got to his knees when he could, staring out at the immense fire that had erupted. Earthquakes were rumbling throughout the streets, power lines and trees beginning to fall from the force. Quickly other Navis ran to the rescue, righting the problems while yet others set to work putting out the fire. Megaman could only watch them helplessly through the shield, which now had started to crack. Megaman thumped against it again.

As it broke the kind-hearted Navi leapt up, running back toward the building where the viruses had been gathered. But he knew it was too late. Bass had made certain the barrier would remain until there was nothing Megaman could do to prevent this. He had stopped the viruses by attempting to absorb them, but it had been too much. And he had known that before he had even started. By sacrificing himself, he had made certain that the viruses would die as well.

Conflicting emotions ran through Megaman's soul as he drew closer to the scene. The fire was burning steadily, but as more and more Navis with water and ice powers drew nigh, it looked as though it would successfully be put out. Megaman walked on into the debris, searching desperately for any possible chance of finding Bass yet alive. He knew he wouldn't. But something made him continue venturing into the remains of the catastrophe. There was something in here, something that compelled Megaman to not turn back.

And then he found it. Caught on a nearby bit of splintered metal was a torn brown cloth. Bass's cape. Slowly Megaman reached out for it, his hands shaking, and removed it from the bar. Fresh blood streaked through it and dripped from the edges, splattering the crumbled ground and Megaman's boots. The Navi swallowed hard, sickened. Bass had been wounded badly and most likely had been deleted. There wasn't much point in looking for him, but Megaman still wasn't ready to give up.

Until he found himself accidentally kicking something with his foot. Blinking in surprise he looked down to see what it was and found the symbol that Bass had worn on his chest. But there was a difference in it now. It took Megaman a moment to notice it, but when he did he was stunned. The scar that had gone diagonally across it was gone. Perhaps it had welded together again because of the heat of the fire, but no matter how it had gone, the fact was that it had. It might as well have never been there at all.

Megaman sank to his knees, stunned at the sight. Now that it was gone, what did that mean? It had always been a visual symbol that spoke of how Bass felt hatred for humans and wanted revenge. Perhaps . . . now that it was gone . . . it meant that Bass had finally found peace.
