Remember that Sonic merchandise list I posted last year? I think it's time to add to it and post it again.

- Archie Comics #0-3 of the original mini-series; #10-#15, #20, #115, #124, #149, #161, #171, #203-#207 of the regular series; Knuckles' Chaotix Special; Princess Sally three-issue mini-series; #1-#4 and #10 of Sonic Universe; #40 of Sonic X
- Tiger Electronic handheld games of Sonic 2 and Sonic 3 (really showing my age here.... I've been a Sonic fan since 1994, when these were out and popular)
- 12-inch plushies of Sonic and Tails from '94-'95 (Sonic was a Christmas present in '94; Tails an Easter present from '95)
- 15-inch Knuckles plushie from ... well, I got him in 2001, but I think they started manufacturing him a year or two earlier. He has the Sonic Adventure design. (Why doesn't Sega.com sell plushies anymore?! ;___; They had the highest quality ones! The ones that turn up on eBay are usually just blech!)
- 4-inch plushie keychain of Fang the Sniper (made in Japan!)
- Once I bought some gum with Knuckles on the wrapper. I wanted to keep that, but I don't think I still have it. ;__;
- Knuckles figure from the Sonic X line
- Sonic & Knuckles Collection PC games: Sonic 3, Sonic & Knuckles, Sonic 3 & Knuckles
- Sonic 3-D PC game (the jerky camera movements make me sick....)
- Sonic R PC game
- Sonic Adventure 2 American release soundtrack (yes, I know half the tracks are missing. Someday I'll get the original Japanese release....)
- One pack of six Sonic X trading cards from season 1 (including a Knuckles card!)
- Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog video cassette with Grounder the Genius and Blank-Headed Eagle (two really bad episodes, from what I remember. But most of the show was really pretty bad. I could hardly stomach it when I tried watching some of it last year.)
- Sonic Underground DVD with four Knuckles episodes
- Sonic X DVD set with the Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure 2 adaptions (awesome dub-work, too. I don't care what the dub-haters say. And yes, I have seen quite a bit of Sonic X in Japanese....)
- Sonic T-shirt with Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles in their Sonic Adventure designs
- 7-8 inch Shadow plushie
- Sonic Heroes PC game
- Sonic X DVD set of the first 13 episodes
- Sonic X messenger bag with Sonic, Knuckles, and Shadow
- Accompanying pins of Sonic, Knuckles, and Shadow
- Knuckles and Shadow PVC keychains
- Sonic Select #1 graphic novel and Sonix X DVD set of the latter half of season 3
- Red shirt with Shadow

EDIT 10/10/10:

- 3.5 inch Jazwares figures of Sonic, Tails, and Shadow (with his motorcycle)
- 20 inch Great Eastern Shadow plushie (ordered; should be here this Thursday)

I also have various Sonic X episodes recorded from TV.

Even though I prefer the SatAM TV show over The Adventures of ..., I think Archie Comics has handled the SatAM universe much better. I never did quite like the SatAM TV show, and while it was because it was too dark for me when I was a kid, now it just doesn't quite click with me on several levels. Part of it is likely because of my preference to Archie Comics' version (which is also pretty dark, actually), but it's also because I really dislike Sonic's characterization in just about everything pre-Sonic Adventure now. XD; Everyone got such better personalities when Sonic Adventure came along that I feel a bit pampered and spoiled. I don't always like Sonic in the early Archie Comics, either, for that matter, but he has developed so much over the years that I just love him in it now. Archie Comics and character development are close friends.

And I am very likely going to do something strange, just as soon as I have more gift card money to spend buying stuff online. I am going to buy Shadow the Hedgehog for the GameCube. That will then force me to stop dilly-dallying and buy a refurbished GameCube from GameStop. (It's $29.99, seriously. If it really works, as they "guarantee" it does, then I can't find a better deal.) I was bemoaning the fact that the two Sonic games I want most, that one and SA2, have never been released for the PC. But they are both on GameCube. And there's some other games I'm interested in for that system, including Sonic Gems. The PS2 version of Shadow's game is half the cost, but the PS2 is much harder to get hold of, plus, there's not many games I'd be buying for it. The GameCube version would be a much more logical choice. And I feel the need to buy it quickly before it stops being sold new at a reasonable price.

It was actually a choice between the game and the DVD set when I picked the DVD set. The reason being, those are already out of print and the price on them is just going up and up. This could be my last chance to get any of them at decent prices, and I don't have many of the episodes from the latter half of season 3. (Just three Aubrie recorded for me because they were on when we were moving and maybe a couple of others.) I realize the dub was worse in season 3, but I still love the voices and want the episodes to own, not just to stream online, so I think it's a worthwhile purchase.

And EEEE! I found this site on Saturday: http://www.sonicgear.org It's a Sonic collector's dream! XD; I spent literally hours on there and still didn't get through nearly all that there is to see! And after researching all the different figures, I've concluded that the recent small line is the best line to start getting. Gosh, I'm so giddy about them. I haven't been this excited about figures in ages! I kind of burned out on my excitement for them because of my long and frustrating experience trying to get Zack, and then after all that, ending up with one whose legs aren't even the same length, so I'm pretty thrilled to have my figure excitement back.

And! They're making Espio and Vector figures! *___* The prototype pictures have been released and they just look amazing! Charmy is sure to follow soon! **claps!** Chaotix figures! This is so exciting! **squees!** The only thing that could make me sail over the moon even more would be if they'd get the rights to release a Fang figure.

I have also determined that the Sonic X Chris figure would probably be correctly in scale with these smaller figures, since the animal characters (excepting Vector and Vanilla) are supposed to be shorter than him. The problem is actually finding one. Albeit Chris figures are cheaper than others in the Sonic X line. Maybe I'll find someone who hates him but has a figure of him for some reason and would sell it to me.

Again with the video cassettes you have of Adventures of etc. being the only episodes I remember. LOL. And the Tails' parent's one, but eh, details.

Oh, so you're finally getting a GC! Do check to make sure it works first, since sometimes Gamestop's checkwork can be shoddy (just bought another used copy of Kirby Air Ride that thankfully works this time...) ^^; Have funzies, and bask in the awesome that is Shadow. LOL. AndSA2isthebestsonicgameeverrrrr.

H-Holy wow that's a lot of stuff T___T That site is awesome, and I would be totally excited if I had a job and some money. LOL. Wow, food merchandise. (Like gum. LOL.)

Epic fail about the Zack figure, by the way >______< Gaaah. Someone on one of my fandom comms once got a whole bunch of figures missing an entire arm each >___>

Finally, Chaotix love! :D And it would figure that the Chris figures are cheaper XD

...

I would totally be annoying and bug you to get Symphonia, but I don't see any copies myself anymore. XD;

LOL. Yeah, it was the Tails' parents one I saw last year. And I think I saw one other and maybe clips from some others.

**nodnod.** Yeah, I don't know how much to trust their "guarantee." Would they let me try it in the store to be sure it works?

(Hooray finally getting a copy that works! XD;)

**hugs Shadow.** I just can't understand why at least SA2 wasn't released for the PC. It's so popular!

LOL. They made just about everything!

Oh gosh, that poor person. .___. What did they do?

I hope we get a release date for the Chaotix figures soon!

Still kind of pricey, though. One website had some, but had sold out, and the price was like $39.99. **falls over.** The very well-loved characters can shoot sky-high. **has seen Shadows for $74 or more.**

It's so frustrating when games vanish.

No, they won't >___> If the Gamestops over there are like ours, at least. So keep your receipt!

(YES. ^o^)

Yeah, that one at the very least should definitely have been released on PC... They'd've made a whole bunch of money.

(S)he was just collecting to have a complete set, so (s)he just went "o.O Okay then..." So not as bad as it could have been. That doesn't excuse the stupid manufacturers, though!

Wow that's a lot >< You could get one of the games for that much! LOL.

**nodnod.** No problem there; I always save mine. ^^

Totally!

Yeah, it's so ridiculous. XD; I really want the recent little Sonic figures I was talking about, but they are known to have some problems. So I definitely want to only buy them if I can get them right from a physical store and inspect them beforehand.

Yep. LOL.

And even that's minor compared to the price of the best Shadow plush ever, which has long been out of print and routinely goes for $1,000. I still regret I wasn't able to get one of those before Sega stopped selling plushies. I don't know why they won't re-issue those, since they're so wildly popular.

My Gosh you're merchandise is a level of nerdiness I only dream of having. XD

Have you ever heard of the Nostalgia Critic? He doesn't like The Adventures of either. I tried getting into Sonic Satam (I keep thinking of Satan every time I spell it...). I didn't like how he was characterized either. I actually prefer his character in Sonic X despite it's many issues... Shadow the Hedgehog does have an amazing soundtrack to me even if the plot and game play are strange.

Accumulated over a 16-year period, but still. LOL.

I've heard of him, but I don't think I've ever gone to his website/whatever he has.

Yay you like Sonic!

Sonic X, for me, has only minor flaws. I ranted about it sometime last year or so, but I don't like Knuckles' gullibility and how he and Espio are sometimes made to look stupid because they're more serious. Me being more serious myself, that definitely rubs me the wrong way. XD; (Not to mention I love Knuckles and Espio.) But other than that, and the general complaints about the dub changes, I love the show. Yes, I even love Chris.

I think the plot of Shadow the Hedgehog sounds really cool. (I'm working on a huge Sonic X fic that's a "season 4" adaption of the game.) I don't know how the gameplay goes, though.

I'm guessing a huge collection would take a lot of time. XD

Of course I'd recommend it. He reviewed The Adventures...with some of Sonic Satam as well at the end. His website is ThatGuyWithTheGlasses.com if you're interested. Tell me how it works out if you want that is. :)

Yay I'm glad you're happy. I'm a fan but I'm not really in the fandom and I've barely played the games. To my vague memory Knuckles was strangely gullible which seems weird to me. Wouldn't he be the cautious one since he has to guard the Master Emerald?

I'm still surprised I've found two people on my F-list who like Chris. I didn't mind him when I first say it, but looking back he just seems useless.

I've asked people who've played the game about the plot, and they have a hard time explaining. It makes me think of when I ask people the plot for any Final Fantasy game. I saw my friend play the game. Sonic kept following you, saying nonsense encouragement for no reason. XD

From: [identity profile] insaneladybug.livejournal.com
Ahh, *that's* his website! I'll have a look at it sometime. ^^

I think Knuckles is gullible because he's always been alone on Angel Island, no family or anything. ;___; And so he's rarely ever interacted with people.

I dunno, to me Chris isn't useless and I've always understood his purpose. It's a dual thing, I think. Sonic and friends needed someone to help them when they ended up in a strange new place. And Chris is not only supposed to be that someone, but he's meant to be someone the kids watching can relate to. They can put themselves in Chris's place and imagine having adventures like that with Sonic.

Interesting. XD I think I could explain the plot easily. That's amusing about Sonic, though. LOL.

You can find him on Youtube too in case the website doesn't let you see the videos.

Aw that would make sense. I'd like to think common sense would come in. Plus the cautious thing would go with his gruff exterior.

This is true. I wouldn't have minded if he wasn't so whiny. They could have made him more interesting and likeable. That's just how I see it.

Well it's just with that one game. With the others it's next exactly rocket science: Eggman/Robotnik steals Chaos Emeralds. Sonic and friends get them back. There's obviously more stuff in there, but that's the bare basics of it.

Date: 2010-09-15 04:47 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] insaneladybug.livejournal.com
**nods.** Okay! ^^

Yeah, you would definitely think there'd be common sense. Especially where Eggman is concerned. Knuckles really doesn't seem like an idiot, so the gullibility feels out of place. I've started to think that it's just a cheap thing to rehash over and over for a familiar plot and gag. XD; So I've started to ignore it and even discount it somewhat as canon.

I don't think I even thought Chris whined until more recently. And I think it's actually mainly a dub addition. **has watched quite a bit of it in Japanese, though she prefers the English voices.**

**snarks.** Yeah, I meant I thought I could easily explain the plot of Shadow's game in specific.

From: [identity profile] mythc-writer.livejournal.com
I wouldn't be surprised if that were the case about Knuckles or Chris. Gags and familiar plots are some of the devices to keeping a show running forever and ever.

I haven't listened to a lick of it in sub. I always prefer watching anime in dub. I like hearing them speak in my native language. It sticks with me better.

Ah really? Do tell I'm curious. The Sonic characters are quite fascinating to me, at least the more immediate ones. I don't know squat about the other ones.

Date: 2010-09-15 07:19 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] insaneladybug.livejournal.com
For me, the language has nothing to do with whether it sticks with me. That said, I usually prefer English, if the voices are good. If they aren't to my liking, it will be almost impossible to get me to watch or like the dub. LOL. The same goes for if I dislike the Japanese version, however.

I was thinking that the plot revolved around Shadow's attempts to recover his memories and learn who he is and what his purpose is. Gameplay is set up so you can choose to be good, bad, or neutral, so the story ends up branching off into several different paths. The official final story, however, seems to make it clear that the creators intend for Shadow to be good. Throughout the game he can either help or hinder the alien Black Arms race that is trying to take over Earth. The final story has him finally learn the real reason why he was created and then fight and defeat Black/Devil Doom and destroy the Black Comet that was set to crash into the Earth. He vows to put his painful past behind him and go into the future.

(How did I do?)

Yeah same here. It's nice to find someone who thinks like that. There are too many people who just hate dubs because they were made in America. And as we all know: Japanese is bettah.

Your explaination was very good. I knew or sort of knew most of that except that the offical story was for him to be good. So thank you.

Yeah, dub haters really irritate me. Not all dubs are OHMYGOSHTHEDEVIL'SHANDIWORK!!!1111

Awesome. ^^ Yeah, in the games that follow, most especially obvious in Sonic the Hedgehog 2006, Shadow seems a lot more stable and at peace. Or at least, he seems that way from what I've seen of it.

Squee! Yay for more Sonic stuff! I actually got to bring Sonic into my lesson again today (on animal behavior and how we must avoid anthropomorphism). XD

**Looks up** You're getting a gamecube!? You can get the Mega Collection for that, too, you know (minus the seven game gear games, though, but I rarely play those anyway...XD;)! (And you can get Ocarina of Time, and Super Smash Bros Melee...).

SatAM is great, from what I've seen of it. X3 I do miss Knuckles, though...

(Gah, you're making me want to play my Sonic Mega Collection again... and I just don't have the time... XD;)

Anyway, must flee. I'm so tired, I just typo'd "Sean Turtle" instead of "Sea Turtle" in my lesson plan. XD; (Which reminds me of Greg's turtle dream...XD;)

Awesome. LOL.

Yeah, I know the Mega Collection is available for GameCube. ^^ It's also for the PC, though, so I dunno what version of it I'd get. I'm more interested in the Gems Collection, with the rare games.

SatAM is very popular. Lots of diehard Sonic fans love it and probably lots of newbies (like you). I dunno, as I said, it never has really clicked with me. I prefer Archieverse when it comes to the characters and setting from SatAM.

Sean Turtle = priceless.

Ah, you bought some of the Archie comics, huh? They're actually releasing the back issues in paperback!

From: [identity profile] insaneladybug.livejournal.com
I've had Archie Comics for years. My introduction to Sonic was #10. That was when it was newly released, back in 1994. LOL. However, I had to stop buying them when I couldn't find them anywhere. ;__; I was too young to know of the awesomeness of comic shops. And nowadays Sonic comics are back in grocery stores and in bookstores! It's great. So I've been able to get some of the recent issues, as well as buying some Shadow-centric older ones.

And yep, I am aware of the Archives! I just wish they were comic-size; I don't like minis. The Sonic Select graphic novels are regular comic size. Much love.
