The West Side Story fic I'm tinkering with was going to go up yesterday, in full. But while proofreading I decided it should be split in two. Then, while looking over the first half, I decided that No, it should be in at least three parts, maybe even four. So I split it again and put up the first segment.

Right now I'm fleshing out the second segment with another scene. Then I need to decide what else it might need.

I knew I had the nagging feeling that the fic needed something more. I'm relieved that I realized it before any of it went up. The split is going to make it a lot better; I'll be able to devote more to it and not worry that one lone segment is going to get too long to hold anyone's interest.

Once I sort things out with this fic, I hope to work on chapter 4 of the Kolchak fic. This West Side Story fic has become such a personal challenge to me to get done, that I'm not sure I can concentrate on the other until I accomplish that.

Ah, yes, I know the feeling. I have been tempted to split up the current oneshot, but decided that it's most powerful as one large, long piece. There probably will be tweaks as I type it up--it is handwritten.

And yay chapter 4! Hopefully everything will work out.

Yeah, that's the decision I made for the Kolchak mirror and ghost town stories. But for this West Side Story fic, splitting up is the right choice.

It's interesting that you are finding it so convenient to write it all by hand first. I never can seem to get things very detailed when I go that route. I end up with a very rough sketch. Not that it doesn't happen sometimes when writing a first draft on the computer too, but when things get more detailed, they're more likely to do so on the computer.
