Yet another reason to detest DeviantArt....

I have never liked the website DeviantArt. I finally gave in and started posting some of my fanart there because, well, frankly, I knew there'd be more of an audience there than on Side7. And Side7 was really frustrating me with making it so much more difficult to achieve the credits needed for an account that would allow more than 100 pictures in it. Honestly, it just wasn't worth it.

I've always managed to post things fine on DeviantArt before. Tonight I log in and find they've changed things. First, they stuff an ad in my face right when I'm in the process of logging in, interrupting said process. Then I try to read my messages, find they're now organized by category in the sidebar instead of all being there together on the page, and what's worse, when I clicked on categories, it wouldn't bring anything up. It just spun its wheels.

Disgusted, I still tried to upload a picture. It spun its wheels some more and as of now, I have given up in disgust. I don't know whether the dumb thing's down from over-activity, maintenance, or if the "improvements" are just making it difficult to get along with.

I liked having the messages all together. I could just scroll down and pause at the sections I wanted. It saved so much time. I don't have time to be clicking on categories left and right! Especially when they won't even work anyway! And how am I going to upload anything if it keeps spinning its wheels like that?

I have a paid account on Deviantart, mostly because I use it so much and REALLY can't stand the ads.

Haven't really had that issue with the message centre though, they tend to be quite good in catering for multiple preferences: you can have watched deviations appear in stacks by authors or stand alone, you can overview the whole message centre or do it by category (except group messages which are separate to avoid confusion)... Must have been a bug moment I guess? Still not cool.

Oh, thanks for the info. If it's multiple choice, they should have left it Stacked and allowed me to choose whether or not I wanted to change it. Bleh. I'll have to log in again later and see if I can wrestle it into submission.

Sorry about having to give up on Side7. Especially in exchange for DeviantArt >__> I never liked the place either, never had enough going for it for me.

Loading problems are so annoying, especially for your first time back on a site after a while. You have no idea if it's the site, or maintenance, or if you're doing something wrong that's been routine for a while now, or if it's just down for some reason... /><\ Troubleshooting is such a hassle!

Yeah, it takes up a lot of memory. And it seems like I'm always seeing junk on their main page that I have no desire to see at all, like nude art.

With a premium account, one doesn't have the adds and the site is pretty fast, though.

Bah, the ads and format at DA are the reasons why I never bothered to get an account. It didn't help that, for a while, just going on the site would cause my browser to crash.

Tumblr just recently overhauled itself, as well, and everyone hates it, mainly because the photoset sizes are altered and makes them look yucky.

Ugh. I've heard about that. I signed a petition to get them to change it back. Websites are always trying to fix things that aren't broken and thus breaking them. Idiots.
