So YouTube will sometimes give optional ads or mandatory ads.

It just forced me to watch an ad for Fifty Shades of Grey. While I was watching a kid's show, too!

I think I just threw up in my mind a little. I could have happily gone all my life without seeing one second of footage from that thing.

And they're pushing this movie about a very not-okay, abusive relationship for Valentine's Day, like it's some marvelous, romantic thing. The author couldn't even get the BDSM subculture right. There is a big difference between mutually consenting to bondage and enjoying it and abusive, unsafe relationships. Part of the BDSM motto is "Safe", for Heaven's sake. They don't want any shenanigans going on that will result in harm to one or more of the participants.

(Note that I am not interested in BDSM, but I do get very irritated when things are portrayed completely wrong, and Fifty Shades is such a mess all around.)

Also? I seriously rolled my eyes at Wal-Mart a couple of weeks ago, when they had a big display of old, classic romantic movies like Pillow Talk and Somewhere in Time, and each movie proudly proclaimed that it had a free ticket for Fifty Shades of Grey. Honestly? I'm pretty sure that most people who want to watch a nice, sweet movie like Somewhere in Time are not gonna go for Fifty Shades of Garbage Grey.

Yep. But the episodes were still awesome. :) I saw the arcade one, the test one, and the future vision one and loved them all. Steven and Garnet are so totally adorable. And it was so sweet in The Test when Steven finds out what the Gems are really thinking and it looks like he's storming over all mad, and then he starts praising them for the (fake) obstacle course. Gah. So squeeable.

"We don't need safewords." Oh gosh.

It really made my opinion of Jamie Dornan go down when I heard he'd been cast as the lead, too. I know probably all actors have been in at least one role that's pretty bad, but some of them will refuse to do certain parts, so it does kind of make me wonder what kind of person he is to accept this one. Ugh.

Yeah, that is exactly my fear as well, that its straight-up promotion of an abusive relationship as something that can be good and wonderful and romantic is going to make much more of a problem with domestic violence than there already is. And cause a lot more people to be hurt.

"You're lying. Your middle name is Cutie-Pie." I died. That show makes me so warm and fuzzy inside...and I didn't even bother to try it for the longest time because the commercials all make it look like three long-suffering graceful magical beings dealing with a giggling doofus they've been stuck with. Steven IS sort of a giggling doofus, but he's so sweet and loving and well-meaning and everything is so precious and sweet and cute. Granted, a lot of the earlier episodes are sort of ho-hum compared to the later ones, but it's a darling little show and I really hope it gets renewed.

There's another episode full of Garnet and Steven that plays out like a really silly, over-the-top anime parody that I really ought to send you.

Everything about 50SoG makes me want to punch the people who came up with it and the people who enjoy it...but then they'd all probably think I was their loving domme, or something.

Maybe Jamie Dornan is hoping to be the new Robert Pattinson...making money off of it while gleefully bashing it to anyone who'll listen.

*cries* It's abuse not BDSM everything is terrible why are people so stupid.

Garnet has definitely been propelled to favorite Gem status after those episodes! The roof scene in Future Vision was so powerful and poignant, too.

It's so annoying when commercials completely portray a show wrong! Steven is definitely adorable and sweet.

How does the show work, anyway? Do two episodes make up one thirty-minute episode block, or do they really just show one 11-minute episode per show time?

LOL. That sounds hilarious!

Heh. Probably.

LOL. I suppose that could be.

So many stupid people.... **headdesk.**

It's hard not to love Garnet...especially when she's being all cute with Steven.

Steven's a total sweetie. He's just so full of love. ;3;

Cartoon Network's scheduling is sort of weird, so sometimes it's just one eleven minute episode, and sometimes it's two in a half-hour block.

I must email you a link to that one, then...and when tonight's episode is online, I HAVE to link you. A lot of episodes have gotten me sniffly and wibbly, but tonight's got real, actual tears. I think I'll need to link you some of the episodes that tie into the over-arching plot, though...it looks like things might be getting heavy in upcoming episodes.
