Oh, I forgot to mention ...
Apr. 17th, 2016 08:18 pmThis past week I saw the junior novelization of The Force Awakens while grocery shopping. I didn't buy it, but I decided to see how they wrote the critical climatic part. To my surprise, it's different from both the adult novelization and the movie itself....
There is no fall off the bridge. Han is run through on the bridge and he stays on the bridge and definitely dies.
Were they following an earlier draft of the script? Did they just want to make sure that the kids knew for sure that Han was dead?
I don't know; I find it very strange that it contradicts the movie itself. So I just have to wonder once again ... is there any hope that Han really isn't dead? With the fall from the bridge and no impact, we really don't know. Kylo Ren stabbed him in the shoulder and not lower in the chest, and we didn't actually see him die from it....
One other intriguing thing about the kids' book is that it's actually fairly deep. There's even a section from Chewbacca's POV about Han's death. It was heartbreaking. And so fascinating. I don't remember any of the adult books getting into Chewbacca's POV. Not that I've read many of them, but some of those I have read feature Han and Chewie pretty prominently, and I really don't recall any Chewie POV.

Date: 2016-04-22 07:29 pm (UTC)Wow at these new revelations...have you read the adult version (that sounds a bit weird, lol) of SW7? I wonder if they changed. Next time in the bookstore, I'm gonna have to take a peek at it. I heard some fans weren't satisfied with the way it was written or that it didn't offer any new details.
Chewie seems forgotten a lot by writers. :( Anyway, this gives me hope that maybe Han survived, but then would Leia have felt something? And we didn't see Kylo immediately after all the battles, maybe he sensed Han survived or deliberately avoided giving him a fatal blow...so many questions!!

Date: 2016-04-22 11:37 pm (UTC)Yeah, this entry mentions that the kids' novelization is also different from the adult novelization. I didn't read that novelization either, but I read the bridge scene, and in the adult book it's the same as the movie.
Chewie sure does get forgotten. Then they decided the thing to do was to kill him off. I've still never forgiven the old EU for that.
So many unanswered questions! If Kylo Ren actually gave Han a non-fatal wound on purpose, I might be able to dredge up some kind feelings for him.

Date: 2016-06-15 03:56 am (UTC)Speaking of SW, what do you think of the upcoming Rogue One film? I was excited to see AT-ATs in the trailer, but that one line "This is a rebellion, isn't it? I...rebel" was SO cheesy, it annoys me so much, lol. Anyway, I feel like a lot of the excitement was used for Ep VII when they've only just begun promoting Rogue One.
I'll never forgive the old EU for some of the ridiculous things they did. Forever sad about Chewie, Mara Jade, Jacen, Anakin Solo... :(
Pinning all my hopes on a non-fatal wound and Han miraculously returning to save the day. :(

Date: 2016-06-15 05:08 am (UTC)I haven't seen the trailer; I actually only learned about that film on Friday. That line sound cheesy/silly/amusing, LOL. I'm excited for it, since it gives me something to look forward to while waiting for Episode VIII.
Totally. Uggggh.
That would be awesome. I am even more concerned again, though, as now they're not listing Harrison Ford as part of Episode VIII's cast, even though he was listed before.
