Waaaah....

And now Alan Young is dead, as of Thursday. I just learned this past day. He was 96 (!!) and still doing some acting and voice-work.
I think this death hits me the hardest this year. Such a good, full life, but he was so much a part of my childhood with DuckTales. I loved Scrooge McDuck so much. I wanted a plushie, but wasn't able to get one. I doubt I'll do much, if anything, with the reboot, but I'm really hoping it causes new plushies to be made so I can get one. I do have a couple of figures, a tiny one from Kellogg's mail-in thing and a bendable one.
Alan Young was also in The Cat From Outer Space as a veterinarian. That was probably the first time I ever saw what he looked like. It's a hilarious movie filled with wonderful character actors and an adorable cat. (And you get Harry Morgan and McLean Stevenson in the same place. It's a must for M*A*S*H fans!)
And then I discovered a whole new side of Alan Young several years ago when I watched Mister Ed. I honestly thought the horse was pretty mean sometimes, but I did love it whenever he showed that he really cared about Alan Young's character. And I totally ate it up when Alan played Wilbur's father in one episode and used his Scrooge McDuck voice. Epic.
I watched a couple of my favorite DuckTales episodes tonight in tribute. I don't think I've ever actually crushed on Alan Young or his characters, but I loved him and Scrooge McDuck about as much as I can love actors and characters without actually crushing on them, and that's a lot.

Date: 2016-05-22 01:39 pm (UTC)Indeed, a long and fruitful life, but still no less sad.
And yeah, the reboot seems even less appealing now, at least in English; hopefully they won't change the Hindi dub cast, and I can see that...
LOL, I need to see that movie and more of Mr. Ed (I saw one ep.... I'm not sure why--maybe a darling was in it) but I need to watch more. It comes on Antenna TV in the mornings; I should take a look...
Yeah, I ended up watching my favorite DT ep last night, too. Sigh...

Hopefully! I suppose I still am curious to see it at least once, but I can't imagine liking it enough to watch religiously.
I watched every episode probably at least three times when it aired on THIS. We watched the whole THIS oldies block in those days; that was also how I saw The Outer Limits. Then we didn't have THIS for a while. I haven't tried to see it since the move to Antenna. Mom liked the show more than I did. But I should check it out again, for Alan.
I wonder if I have one absolute favorite episode. I watched Send in the Clones and Master of the Djinni. After going through old posts last night, I wanna see the amnesia episode and the Golden Goose saga too....

Date: 2016-05-22 11:54 pm (UTC)Ooh, wow. I did end up seeing one today. LOL, fun. (And yep, one of the Darlings was in an ep--Alan Hale, so that's why I saw that one, heh)
Mine is "Nothing to Fear," simply for the way they set it up--like they make it seem that Scrooge's worst fear is losing his money, but then his deepest fears are, in fact, losing the boys. I really, really love how they did that. And ooh, I remember being properly freaked out by Golden Goose--though it was a good one and did greatly influence one of my Monkees fics.

Date: 2016-05-23 12:22 am (UTC)Oooh. I remember you mentioning that too. I think I saw it back then, but I'm not sure. It's not on my DVD set (I need to get more of them). I'm guessing you found it on YouTube?
Awesome! Now I'm kind of getting an idea of doing the Golden Goose plot with Ginger and Lou. They and Mike would probably be the last ones around and first Mike and then Lou would be caught, and Ginger would be the one throwing the thing on the fountain and then falling into it. LOL. His expression would be hilarious.

Date: 2016-05-23 12:50 am (UTC)Yeah, it was a poor-quality yt one. But better than nothing.
Ooh, that would be intense! Poor Ginger, though; I imagine him having that furious indignation like a cat would have after it has stumbled.

Date: 2016-05-23 01:31 am (UTC)Yep. LOL. That is the perfect comparison. Ginger is like a cat in a lot of ways in general. And I think if I do the fic, it will be another VR world made real. The Golden Goose stuff is just too bizarre for my verse otherwise, but I'd really like to do the story.
