My fashion is inspired by...
the '50s

Are you known as dependable? Maybe even a little conservative? Then the decade that brought us the baby boomers may have ushered in your sensible style. Something tells us that you would never be late for school because you didn't have a single thing in your closet. Read more...

Which fashion era do you belong in?

That was interesting. ^^ The results are pretty accurate, too.

I have found another Monkees fan who likes Tony! **is very pleased.** Fans of one-shot characters must band together. XD;

I need to get to work on chapter two of Prisms of No Color. I've been using most of my writing time to work on Will the Real Baby Face Please Stand Up? I'm just finishing chapter four of that.

And my need to visit a bookstore quelled somewhat when I found out that they didn't have what I really wanted. XD; My aunt gave me $50 as a belated graduation present, so I've gone a bit nuts the last couple of days buying some of the books online that I really want. I also got a couple more Monkees pictures on eBay last night. **laughs.** One is a very lovely picture of Micky by himself, and the other is a very early group shot where Micky is goofing off and hanging upsidedown. I love that. XD

I've been pondering over what my top ten Monkees songs are. It's so hard to pick! There's so many great ones to choose from. Song lists change more frequently than episode lists, but right now my list looks somewhat like this:

#1. Shades of Gray. Beautiful harmonies and lyrics. I think all four of them sing on it, too.

#2. Daily Nightly. Mysterious and unique, and the B&W music video that accompanies it on the show is just great. Aubrie says it reminds her of the twenties, and I can see why. No wonder it's my theme song for the Prisms of No Color story.

#3. Daydream Believer. A Monkees classic, and it holds the distinction of being the first song I wanted to learn on the piano. This song was my reason for getting interested in playing the piano, period!

#4. I'm Not Your Steppin' Stone. Another classic, and very punkish. Basically, the song just rocks, literally.

#5. Kicks. What an awesome cover. Micky makes the song his own, and really, it just seems like it was made for his vocals. The message of the song is great, too.

#6. Papa Gene's Blues. An early one, and it's just fun. I love Michael's songs so much.

#7. Nine Times Blue. One of Michael's best. Very beautiful.

#8. The Monkees' Theme. "Hey, hey, we're the Monkees, and people say we monkey around, but we're too busy singing to put anybody down. We're just tryin' to be friendly, come and watch us sing and play. We're the young generation, and we've got something to say."

#9. Randy Scouse Git/Alternative Title. Micky's commentary piece on his experiences in London. Yes, I know that the American title is offensive in the UK, but Micky didn't know it when he titled the song. XD; Overseas it became known as "Alternative Title," or is it "Alternate Title"?

#10. Sometime in the Morning. I love this one so much. While many girls are swooning over Davy's vocals on songs such as "I'll Be True to You", I'm swooning over Micky's vocals on this one. On the rare occasions when he got a slow song, he got some of the very best ones.

Runners-up would include What Am I Doin' Hangin' 'Round?, I Wanna Be Free (my theme when it comes to romance, and well, my life in general), No Time, I'll Spend My Life With You, and a new favorite, Admiral Mike. I never actually listened to that song before tonight, I don't think. Six years ago, I just read the lyrics and didn't like the insults and didn't understand the message of the song. **laughs.** But now it's just so obvious to me, and the way Micky sings the song is just great. XD It makes me giggle.

I do feel ashamed of myself for allowing such blatant fangirling, but in this fandom I can't seem to help myself. XD;

He...he....you never be ashamed of such blatant fangirling! *waves the fangirl flag*

These days, fangirling is usually seen as a bad thing that's done only by rabid fans. XD; But intelligent fangirling is hopefully what the both of us do, since I don't consider myself rabid. **smiles.**

Star Collector is fun. ^^ I love their commentary songs.

Well i've checked for any signs of foaming at the mouth and i reckon im not rabid quite yet.... ;)

I guess im just enthusiastic more than anything, its just fun to be able to talk Monkees with people.

Star Collector is a fun song, i love the PAC&J album, its almost never off my cd player.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I keep rambling on and on about the Monkees in LJ, and I want to talk about it with the people I chat with on MSN IM, but they aren't really familiar with the show or else they don't remember it, and I don't want to annoy them by jabbering on too much. XD; Whenever I find someone who does want to talk about them, I rarely shut up.

That really was a good album. :) I think Headquarters is my favorite, because you can really hear in the songs that they were having a good time, but there were classics on all the albums. PAC&J, Ltd. had quite a few of their commentary songs that I enjoy so much. There was Salesman, The Door Into Summer, Pleasant Valley Sunday, Daily Nightly, Star Collector. . . .

Oh yeah Headquarters is a fantastic album. I love almost every song on it, plus there was this energy and for moment of course everyone was working to achieve the same thing.

Well, feel free to jabber on about the Monkees to me btw. :P
Like you most of the people i know don't really have much interest in them and i know for a fact that my closest friends have never even seen an episode of the tv show in their lives....they really don't know what they're missing!

XD That one was supposed to be on either the top ten list or the runners-up list, and I forgot to add it. I always forget something!

I hope you will enjoy them when you manage to get hold of some of the episodes! It's such a timeless show, great for any era.

I did the same thing. But I did play the piano before that. Well since I was 4 I have but I quite. That sound got me back into playing it. I just love the way Peter play in it. I love how he just is so in love with the piano.

That's actually true for me, too. My dad wanted me to learn the piano when I was seven or eight, but when I couldn't learn anything past melody lines, and I was getting the notes wrong, I gave up in frustration and didn't try again for years and years. So the Monkees definitely must be credited for my interest in the piano.

I started learning to play the guitar because of Peter. I just love the way it sounds. I also want to learn to play the banjo now.

Interesting quiz. I tried it but wasn't sure who to put for the last question since I don't know any of those celebrities' styles well. ^_^; I got 1950s or 1930s depending on who I put in for that question.

Oh, and if you haven't been by the forum since last night, we're trying to wrap up the current RP chapter so we can do something else.
