I watched some of the anime Pharaoh's Memories on Saturday. I realized how much I seriously dislike their handling of almost everything. I hadn't remembered how badly they altered the palace intrusion scene, for instance. Basically, the manga version was much longer (a rarity for the manga version of anything), deeper, and made Thief King look more sympathetic. The altering was for the anime in general, so the dub can't really be blamed.

I *love* this dub line of his, though: "Well, excuse me for not respecting a kingdom that destroyed my village!" or something to that effect. He might have said "family" instead of "village." ;___;

What I also love about the anime version can basically be summed up here:

- Seto! I mean, seriously, he was so important throughout the whole manga, and yet he's not in the final arc and never even sees Atem go on to the afterlife?! That is not cool. Their rivalry was so important in the series. The anime made a good decision by bringing him in.

- Shadi! He's one of my favorite lesser-seen characters, so to have him interact with Yugi-tachi at the beginning was awesome. And I suppose it's dub-only, but his and Joey's clashes are hilarious. XD; As is Joey's reaction to his hand going through him.

- Chained Thief King. XD; I mean, it is one of the only times we get a good h/c scene with him. I wanna know what happened that led to him being captured and being forced to walk through the desert until he was so exhausted (and probably suffering from the heat) that he collapsed. ;__;

- The scene where Yugi-tachi see Yami Bakura in a room, and then suddenly a beast explodes out of his body. o.o The reason why I like that? Check out his expression. He's in pain. He acts horrified. He doesn't want it to happen. If Yami Bakura is only Zorc in the anime version, why such a reaction? Looks to me like a subtle indication that Thief King is around.

- Ishtars coming in earlier! More Ishtar scenes = much love.

- Yugi-tachi encountering Thief King. Joey calls him Scarface. **snerk.** I kind of sighed at Tristan being mind-controlled/possessed again, though. XD; I always wanted it to happen to Duke sometime. Of course, Duke wasn't with them there, but I digress.

I do like other things, such as more Mana scenes, and the redoing of the battle where Thief King is killed. o.o (Heck, give me any level of h/c scene with him and I'll probably love it. XD; Except turning to sand. That was creepy. It's only redeeming grace is that it didn't really happen.) But I prefer the manga version of the latter, where he's laying dead on the horse and his future self is yelling at him. XD; "No! You're not supposed to die yet! That isn't how it went!"

And now, for LOL-worthy dialogue:

Yami Bakura: Are you frightened yet?
Seto Kaiba: If you think a rotting corpse with a sword is going to intimidate me, you're sadly mistaken!

Yami Bakura: I was successful in returning to the past! ... But judging from these chains, my timing could have been better.

Mahado: We are in the presence of pure evil!
Ahkenaden: Oh no!

Seriously, "oh no"?! What kind of reaction is that to such a statement?! LOLOLOL.

I love the dub's humor, intentional and unintentional.

EDIT: I also watched some Battle City/Ship stuff, including Yami Bakura vs. Yami Marik. I confirmed that the anime does show fading, definitely making it less sickening-looking than the manga version. (The dub kept the creepy teeth monsters, BTW. XD;) Also of interest: in the manga, Yami Bakura's reaction to the devouring is, "Oh don't get me wrong! I like it!" **headdesk.** LOL. But in the anime, he looks furious. In the dub he says, "You fiend!" Dunno what he says in the original, but he clearly does not like it.
