I like watching the dub-created etudes (studies of the music used on the show) at times when I have my Tutu DVDs out. Last night I watched episode 2 (among others) and tinkered with the etude, even though that particular one sends my ears to a slow and painful death.

Lilie's English voice is okay, but Pike's honestly makes me want to scream. My gosh, she is highly energetic and *loud.* Her voice is normal volume in the original, and I don't recall her coming across as overly energetic, either. When a fan described her as such, I couldn't figure out why they thought that. Then I heard the first etude and it all made sense.

A fanon pairing that is really popular (or so it seems to me) is Autor/Pike. I do not like it. At all. I think Autor deserves someone more mature. Pike is certainly more mature than Lilie, though honestly, that isn't saying much. LOL. I'd hope most people are more mature than Lilie!

Aside from the maturity, I think Pike's energy (if we're including dub traits) would really wear him out. And he would be annoyed by her gossiping and match-making. And oh gosh, think of the close proximity Lilie would be to him forever after! That's a horror no one should have to endure, but especially not him.

And I do have to admit, I ... really don't like Pike much in general, LOL. Since it's not a canon pairing, I really would like for Autor to be with someone I actually like.

I would honestly be perfectly alright with Autor ending up a bachelor, both because I don't see anyone on the show as being really right for him and because ... well, because I gravitate to characters that don't need romance in their lives. XD; Autor, I think, could likely exemplify the Virgo trait of not falling in love with just anyone and taking a long time to pick someone and then being loyal when he does. Now, I'm not saying he'll carry a torch for Rue all of his life (he's really too young to start something lifelong like that), but I am saying I don't think it would be impossible that he wouldn't find anyone else he liked as much as he felt he liked Rue. (It's also possible he would, of course.)

If I have to pair Autor with someone, I would probably pick Ahiru, and that would open up a whole new can of worms. And if you ask why I think she would be a better choice than Pike, I actually do have reasons besides my huge timeline where they develop a close friendship.

Speaking strictly on the information we have from canon, and the follow-up, I don't think it would be impossible for Ahiru to come to like him. After all, she thought Fakir was a jerk for a long time too and made a complete turn-around; she could do the same for Autor. And I honestly think she would like the person behind the arrogant mask. Autor has been shown to be kind and loyal and brave.

Autor seems to have warmed up to Ahiru in the follow-up, as I've noted before. She doesn't meddle in people's lives, gossiping and match-making. Even when she tries to help, like with Mytho, she worries wondering if she's doing the right thing. She can get loud when excited/worried, and that would definitely get on Autor's nerves, but I don't think that by itself would be enough to make it not work.

The biggest problems would probably be Autor's interest in power and Ahiru's immaturity when losing her temper. Though, honestly, speaking strictly from canon information, we don't know whether he let his power obsession go or not. Some writers portray him as doing so after the series. If Autor did not give it up, he could continue to be interested in it throughout his life and that probably would bother Ahiru and could be a barrier between them. If he matured beyond that, as some have written, then that eliminates that problem. And one would hope Ahiru would mature too, LOL.

I'm sure that from the fans' standpoint, there are just as many reasons why Autor/Pike could be possible. But the thought of it honestly horrifies me. XD;

And all of this being said, I still squee over Autor and Ahiru being friends more than anything else. But I guess my rationale could serve to explain how that could happen too. Especially since I think that couples should be friends first.
