Favorite vs. Best
Mar. 19th, 2014 02:36 pmSo MeTV is running a contest and pairing up their shows for people to vote between (with the winner getting a marathon at some point). The first round is on right now and I went to cast my votes on Monday.
Well, they just had to pair Perry Mason off with The Fugitive. And as much as I love Perry, the formulaic nature of the series, the often-silly courtroom confessions, and some other things that stifled the show's possible growth means that I feel The Fugitive is the better series. I think I described it before as Route 66 for grown-ups (while Route 66 is a show more for teenagers/young adults). It's very deep and intense and philosophical as Dr. Kimble travels around the country and meets new people and becomes involved in their lives and problems.
But ... since I love Perry so much and adore about a third or even half the cast, I couldn't bear to vote against it. So I voted for it, but I'm still feeling guilty about it.
Not sure if the contest was meant to pick favorite or best shows, though. If it's strictly for favorites (I think it might be), I wouldn't have to feel so guilty. All faults aside, Perry Mason is a good show and generally had great acting and intriguing storylines. It deserves being remembered as one of the best dramas of classic TV.
