Round 2 started today. I went back to make my next picks. Some shows I was surprised to see in the next round, some I wasn't. And there were some more tough decisions.

Columbo or Hawaii 5-O? Man. Columbo is the best show of the two, I think, but I've seen a lot more of Hawaii 5-O and enjoy it a lot, usually. Still, in the end it's similar to a lot of crime shows and Columbo was really different by being a "howcatch'em" instead of a "whodunit". You always knew who did it; you just didn't know how Columbo would prove it. Plus, Columbo is awesome. (So is Steve McGarett, though.) I ended up picking Columbo. I wonder a bit if I should have chosen the other, but the predominant feeling is satisfaction that I made a good choice.

I wasn't surprised people cut Cannon out of the running. Sigh. Of course more of them would vote for The Rockford Files. They seem to really enjoy that show's quirkiness. I feel better about it than I did, but in its case, I don't care for how it broke the mold. I'd rather see a dead serious P.I. show like Cannon instead of The Rockford Files' general off-beatedness.

Ironside made it to Round 2. So did The Untouchables. Adam-12 was booted in favor of Dragnet. I like Adam-12 better. The old 1950's Dragnet, though, the one that never gets aired, that was some gritty good stuff.

Get Smart lost to Hogan's Heroes. Surprised about that; Get Smart was always so popular for how it broke the mold.

Perry is still in the running. I was happy for it, but sad at the same time that The Fugitive wasn't better appreciated.

Emergency! won over The Saint. A bit surprised by that.

Gunsmoke lost to The Rifleman! I think that was biggest jaw-dropper. Maybe it's just because MeTV only shows seasons 12-20 of Gunsmoke, though. Some of the best episodes were earlier. Not that I don't like The Rifleman, but man, Gunsmoke is such a legend.

Wonder Woman lost to Batman. I love Batman's quirkiness. I don't think I could stomach what happens in the 1960s movie (people being broke down to powder?! Oh my gosh, NO. NO!), but the TV show is absolutely hilarious and adorable and always makes me smile. I love Wonder Woman too, though, and I felt it was the better show for when it tried to be serious. Both shows definitely have some cheese.

Since the poll is for MeTV viewers to pick which show they feel is the most memorable and they'll get a marathon of it, I hope the winner will be something good.

One thing I don't like is that if you picked a show that didn't make it, the site says "Your pick - wrong!" I'm sure they don't mean it this way, but dang, it sounds insulting, like that I'm wrong for liking one show better than the other.

Also, I had a weird dream about watching The Saint. Yes. I mentioned it over on Tumblr, but I think I'm crushing on Roger Moore from his Maverick and Simon Templar days.

I love Maverick. It broke the Western mold and is often humorous, but it's just not to the extreme that The Rockford Files is. Nor is it like the silly sequel Bret Maverick. I can't find any episodes of that to re-watch, but I did find a clip, and just from it I could tell that the Bret Maverick character certainly changed in some ways through the years. He seemed much more cynical and cautious in the sequel (sooo many guns, oh my gosh), but considering everything that happens to him in the first show, I guess it's not a surprise. Kind of sad, though. And he swears in the sequel show. Not that you wouldn't imagine the character would have sworn originally if TV codes had been more lax in the 1950s, but there's one episode where he specifically quips that he doesn't want to say a particular thing because it would be too much like swearing. Aww.
