So, looking over a recent email from Amazon, I've discovered there is a genre called Magical Realism. I took one look at that and my immediate thought was, "... Magical ... Realism? Isn't that an oxymoron?"

I suppose the idea is that it uses fantasy settings/characters/etc. to teach real-world lessons, but I am still amused by the genre name. It just sounds so nonsensical.

And I finished a fic yesterday for the intriguing [livejournal.com profile] 31_days prompt "Between the last remaining headstones." I couldn't pass up a chance to do another cemetery fic. I used the real locale Bayside Cemetery as the setting. Its condition is absolutely, utterly appalling and heartbreaking. I've never heard of such widespread desecration of a modern cemetery. It's better than it was a few years ago, thanks to some people who have really tried to work on it and an official clean-up project, but as far as I know, it's still not ideal and it's still very bad off in the deeper places not visible from the road. I also hear it's haunted. Considering its state, that's no surprise. Coffins were broken into and robbed and the bones scattered all over the ground! Worse, I heard of at least one skull being deliberately broken by some intruder who apparently just wanted to make fun of it. I felt like crying when I read that. The dead must be very furious.

Also, I watched Joseph on Quincy, M.E. in The Final Gift episode. He was wonderful and adorable and the main guest-star and the character was a good guy! And there was a May-December romance going on that was going to be happy and I was thinking "Oh man. Lucky, lucky girl." And totally envying the actress who got to be there with him! I was inwardly squealing with glee.

I love whenever I see a May-December romance turn out happy. In 1960s TV, it generally didn't seem to, but by the 1970s, they were doing some great stories at least sometimes. Other than the Joseph one, I can think of two other awesome ones, both of which had Simon. One was an Ironside episode and Simon's character was a bystander. The other was a Marcus Welby, M.D. episode and Simon was involved in the romance. Squeeeee. Oh, and I just remembered one time 1960s TV did a really sweet one: The Lovers episode of One Step Beyond.

**points dramatically.** [livejournal.com profile] ladyamberjo, I am holding you personally responsible for the zombies that appeared in my dream!

I can also explain the presence of a few other things, but overall, this dream was really whacked out and really really creepy. ;___; As I told Lisa: We were in Idaho, visiting my paternal grandmother (who in reality never left the state and is dead now). Then we drove around and found an old abandoned factory/plant thing where apparently some horrible calamity had happened in the twenties or thirties? o.o And there was a huge monolith/monument/something in the middle of the place, commemorating it. And as we drove through, some water dripped down an old building's wall and that seemed to be an indication that lost spirits were afoot. They then began exclaiming and wailing to be helped. ;___; Oh my gosh it was creepy. Then later, a few of them were coming around as zombies.

One amusing thing: the dream had continuity. XD; At one point, earlier, we were in a creepy cemetery and there was a monument with water dripping down it. I had been told about something like that from Crystal before we left, as she had vacationed there before, so I thought that was the one she had mentioned. Then later, at the factory, I reread the printed email and saw that she was talking about the monument at the factory site.

I'm pretty sure the wandering spirits are inspired by the spirits of Kul Elna. (Thanks, guys.) Monolith, probably because I was talking about them the other day. (They are freaking creepy. I honestly think having Solomon's and the Kaiba brothers' soul cards on monoliths is creepier than the crosses in the original Japanese.) Zombies, because Ladyamberjo showed me some stuff about a show that included a zombie episode. LOL. Even my grandmother's appearance could be explained because I was thinking the other day that it would soon be four years since she died. But the rest of the stuff---Idaho, an abandoned plant ... just not sure. (Well, plant, possibly because the movie F.I.S.T. was on the other night, involving a factory?...) And in any case, my gosh, my mind put everything together so creepy!

Two sketches are up, including a Christmas-related one. http://www.side7.com/lucky_ladybug66/gallery/

Last night, we drove through the cemetery, because it was beautiful with people bringing candles and lighted trees and stuff for Christmas, and something freaky happened. When we were at the very back, driving past a creepy old shed, the radio went wonky. It started flipping to every station on preset, then went through some that weren't. We tried two more times to see if it would happen again, but it didn't. Hmmm.... Paranormal activity?! It could have been some kind of odd cross with a signal from a house just on the other side of the fence, but I'm pretty sure we were past the house and much closer to the shed at the time. o.o

And LOL, one of the stations it flipped to was playing the Rusty Chevrolet song. XD I love that thing so much. One of the best novelty songs ever.

Wow. LOL.

http://angel-gayla.livejournal.com/203820.html Looking at these pictures of an old cemetery gave Kaze the random idea of Azazel and Gunju in the Revolutionary War. LOL. And that gave me a crack plunnie to really write it. I can't quite picture either of them on the British side, though, and I wanted to get them on opposing sides. Maybe Azazel ends up being a double agent/spy or something, hoping to get more money. XD;
