So MeTV is doing another round of their silly MeTV Madness this year, where MeTV shows are paired up and voted on by the viewers who use the Internet. I'm really not sure what the point of the thing is. I originally figured it was to determine what was popular so they'd have some idea what to keep/what to toss/what to bring back, but the MeTV Madness results really don't seem to have any bearing on that, so I'm not sure what the point is. Maybe it's just silly fun. Sometimes I wonder, though, if the voting is really completely what the users are saying or if MeTV makes the end result be something they want. I can never forget when 4Kids did that voting thing to get viewers to pick which new show they wanted to see a special preview of, and Tokyo Mew Mew was ahead for most of the voting time, yet suddenly when it was time, they announced that F-Zero had somehow won. Considering it had the least votes all the way along, that was more than a little suspicious.

And I was thinking about politicians being immature and flinging stupid insults back and forth at each other and that got me thinking about that Patty Duke Show episode where Patty and Cathy are running for student body president and start doing the same thing. The students get so sick of it that they end up overwhelmingly voting for the one candidate who wasn't insulting everybody else. But she also didn't have much of a voting pitch; she'd always get up and flatly say, "Vote for me." LOL. But according to Patty, she actually started doing a good job once she was voted in.

Then I started thinking how strange it is that while I remember the series fondly, there are many, many episodes that I either don't like or find tedious to watch. Episodes that I truly, genuinely liked all the way through are actually less in number than the other kind, I believe. So that made me wonder why I bought the first two seasons on DVD years ago. I think it was because I wanted the episodes with that recurring character actor who looked like Autor, Jeff Siggins. Then season 3 changed production areas and the supporting cast was dropped, including him, and season 3 changed the show in other ways and overall I didn't like it as much. But I still recorded the ones I liked best.

The other great thing about The Patty Duke Show is William Schallert. I became very fond of him while watching him in all those episodes. He reached the tier right below the actors I actually crush on, which is for other actors I am very enthusiastic about and can go out of my way to see and get very excited to see when stumbling on them by chance. I don't know if I would have come to like him as much as I do if not for seeing him every night as part of that main cast.

I also think off and on how Cathy is usually remembered for being so demure and sweet, and yet she can actually be pretty nasty too, like in the voting episode and several others. Sometimes I think she can actually be more nasty than Patty, because Patty usually just says things off the top of her head without thinking about it, whereas Cathy seems more likely to plan out at least some of what she says. Sometimes she behaves on impulse too, though, like in the Cleopatra episode. And I suppose she has to behave badly sometimes so she'll be a well-rounded character. But I have to say, it's always painful to see her like that and I don't think I like any of the episodes where it happens. Regardless, though, I do prefer her to Patty, as Patty Duke herself does. But both girls are pretty well-rounded and have good and bad points, which is nice.

That sort of thing is necessary, but while flaws are important, I honestly have trouble writing characters actually acting out/deliberately being vicious and petty and mean. Even if they're prone to such behavior in canon, I just cannot get into that mindset if I'm trying to write them as a protagonist. It's easy if they're an antagonist, but if I want them to be the one the readers are rooting for, I just ... can't seem to make myself do it, which is why canon jerk or villain characters in my hands usually end up not being anywhere as bad as canon portrays (although generally there's an explanation of trying to turn over a new leaf instead of it coming out of the blue, like it did with Hook on Once Upon a Time). It's just not my nature and I can't get into their heads and don't feel comfortable trying if I don't try to soften them/humanize them a bit to make them relatable to me. Some of them I still can't really relate to regardless of my efforts, since of course I have to try to stick to canon information and sometimes that means the character will end up darker than I'm comfortable with no matter what I do. (Usually that means I eventually drop the character, as in the cases of Gin and Vodka and some certain others in other fandoms.) But anyway, yeah, I usually have to fall back on other types of flaws for protagonists than acting out.

Then I started reading one of my locally-written mystery books. I was slightly concerned when I saw the main character described on the back as "quirky", as usually that seems to mean an absent-minded weirdo or someone who can't be serious if their life depends on it. Both character types are fine for people who like them, but they can grate on my nerves very quickly, especially since the latter category often leads to practical jokers and that's a sub-character type I don't care for either. (Which is why I've honestly never been that excited about the Weasley twins from Harry Potter.... Not that I'm that excited about Harry Potter in general, honestly. But despite my feelings, I still felt it was sacrilege to kill off one of the brothers. Gah.) There's a character in the latter category who's in a fairly popular locally-written book and movie adaptation. She says she's an intellectual, but she honestly never acts like it. She pretty much spends the whole book/movie acting like a silly, mischievous, slightly naughty goof and being rather outrageous at times. Although technically, she does get serious when her life depends on it. She dies and the thing ends up heartbreaking after starting so screwy and silly.

But to my relief when I started reading the mystery book, the lead character is a serious, capable person and her quirkiness mostly stems from OCD. I can totally deal with that. And it's rather nice to see an OCD character written seriously; as much as I had fun watching Monk, it always did bother me that he and the other OCD characters who popped up were portrayed as acting so childishly due to their phobias. We're really not all that way!

Today's episodes were awesome. And I am very fascinated by Siegfried. XD; They gave him a German accent, too, like Amelda-kun wanted! I won't be calling him by his dub name, though. Ziegfried? What the heck? If they're gonna keep it that close, why not use the S? I don't like the name Ziegfried too much. It makes me think of Ziegfield or whatever that guy's name is with the Follies.

I think I'll really enjoy this mini-arc. ^___^ And I'm afraid I already want to write a story about Siegfried. -___-; That's a new record. I had Amelda-kun tell me some stuff about him, both because I wanted to know to satisfy my own curiosity and because it will help for a story.

I love my icon. X3 **pets it.** Made it myself.

The new Batman episode was great too. I was annoyed when I saw the preview for next season, though. I don't want him to get a sidekick. And why Batgirl instead of Robin? In any case, he was doing just fine without a sidekick and I wish the show would have stayed that way. That made it really unique.

I saw the preview for the new G.I. Joe show on Fox. Eh. . . . Didn't like it much, though the animation was gorgeous. The characters kinda left something to be desired. And the main girl delivered a line really flat when it should have sounded intense and worried. And they had one guy eating bugs. That's just dumb. -.-; He never opened his eyes either---an anime cliché.

I must admit, I am slightly curious about this Loonatics show. And if it's running against Bratz, as Matt said, well, I'll definitely give it a try, at least. I am not watching that Bratz pre-teen crap. I could barely stand watching five minutes of it. And if the coyote gets some respect on Loonatics, that alone would probably make me happy enough to watch the durn thing.

What I've always wondered is why did that female rabbit join the Looney Tunes gang anyway? I think she was first in Space Jam, which I never watched. But Looney Tunes managed fine without a female rabbit before, so why did they suddenly decide to create one? They might as well make female counterparts for everyone, then.

Speaking of that . . . why was Petunia never in the cartoons? She only seems to be in the books, which I like better than the cartoons, incidentally.

Hmmm

The news is official! New YGO episodes start next week, as advertised this morning on KidsWB! It looks like there'll be one starting off the block and then another at its usual time, both new. I just hope that they're dubbing Pharaoh's Memories as well as Grand Prix. They're calling this last season Grand Championship, and during the trailer, I only saw Grand Prix clips. . . .

I also saw previews for the talking fruit show. O__o That thing looks scary. Seriously, I think it disturbs me more, in its own way, then volume one of the Hellsing manga. XD;

I got feeling somewhat sad and nostalgic after watching the trailer announcing the final season of YGO, so for some of the time I watched a couple of random Noa's Arc episodes. I think, if I can get the time, I'd like to start reviewing a lot of my favorite YGO episodes, starting with some of the really intense Duelist Kingdom ones.

After watching those episodes, I happened to see the last five minutes or so of the Bratz show's preview. **winces.** So much pre-teen nonsense. I don't think I'll be able to stomach that show. XD; I can't stand most stuff that's aimed at pre-teen girls.

Not to mention there was a really dumb Skechers commercial involving EATING the shoes and then having them materialize on the kids' feet. WTH? **sweatdrops.**

And I've been working more on chapter seven of LATT! It's coming along well. I hope it will continue to do so.

**looks at a cool fedora on eBay.** This one really does almost look right. It goes off auction right away, though, and I don't know that I want to buy something just yet.

And gaaah . . . I have to get a new mouse! This one has been driving me crazy for days! I can barely get the curser to move unless I repeatedly roll the ball on the mat. Not even cleaning it helped.

We watched the original trilogy in a screwed-up order. XD; Near the beginning of the week we saw Return of the Jedi, then on Thursday we saw A New Hope, and now we recently finished with The Empire Strikes Back. The latter is my favorite of the original movies. =^__^= I'm not sure why. . . . I love the whole plot, the intensity, and the Han/Leia scenes. X3 Oh and of course, ESB is when Boba gets the most screentime (other than Attack of the Clones, of course). When I was a child, we only had the latter two Star Wars movies recorded and I would stay up late almost every night watching them, usually with Mom. Ahhh . . . those were good times. I think maybe I liked ROTJ a bit less because it was the last one. **laughs.** At that time, I didn't know there would be any more.

... You know, I don't think I saw the very first Star Wars movie until I was about eleven. And then it was the Special Edition version. XD I've actually never seen the *very* original version. And I've never been able to find the extended parts of ESB. o.o Fox showed it once, but I didn't see anything different. I'm sure they were showing the extended one, because they showed the extended ROTJ.

I think I will at least try the Jackie Chan episodes later this morning and see if they're any good. Out of the four episodes they showed last fall, I only liked two. -.-; Not great odds. XD Maybe that means I'll like one of the episodes today?

I really wish YGO would move to the Fox Box. They're not quite so "kiddy" as Kids WB. I think YGO would have a better home there. Though . . . The Batman, as I said before, isn't really your typical Kids WB show, either.

Well, that was annoying. I was in the middle of my entry and CompuServe logged me off and closed my browser window! I swear, I am NOT going to stand for this crap. I see no reason at all why we should stay with CompuServe. Especially when they're owned by AOL. Grrr.

ANYWAY, I guess I'll just have to type my entry again. I'm typing it in WordPad, even though NetScape is opening now. Which is weird, because I never told NetScape to open. o.o

SO! Today we went out and I got this cute shirt with Yami Yugi, Yami B, and Marik on it! I wanted it the last time I was at that Wal-Mart, but I couldn't get it because I only had enough money for one thing and I got my Bass figure then. Good thing I did, too, 'cause I didn't see any this time. I also saw a shirt with Yami Y, Yami B, and Seto. I bet Aubrie would like it. She expressed interest in the one I got today when I told her about it a few weeks ago.

At Toys R Us, I did see a figure of robot Bass. I wanna get that sometime. ^^ I figure that to completely be a fan of someone like Bass, both versions must be liked or at least respected. And though I prefer Bass.EXE, I do like robot Bass too. I actually have a plot bunny for a fic involving the robot Megaman characters, but the only scene I can see in my mind involves the aftermath of a big disaster and Megaman finding Bass badly damaged. He actually did something to help Megaman, but he claims it was because he wanted to defeat Megaman himself and not for someone else to do it.

Fox Box's new season is supposed to start today! ^__^ Sonic X and TMNT will be showing new episodes! Of course, with TMNT, most everything they showed over the summer was new to me. XD I wonder when they're gonna show Tokyo Mew Mew. I've been looking forward to that one. ^^

And I finally started my YGO Poseidon thing! I have two chapters up now. I started writing it last Saturday when I couldn't get on my computer. So I started typing it in WordPad on Dad's computer. Sometimes I start a fic in WordPad and then copy and paste it to WordPerfect later. Unless it's a poem, it always winds up in WordPerfect by the end. XD I just wish I could hurry up and finish YuleTide Terror. I swear, it's gonna be Christmas again before it's done!

I'm listening to The 4 Seasons. I love that old group. ^__^ When I first started listening to the radio, I found an oldies station that had this program from Las Vegas and there were these deejays that I became friends with. I grew particular to several groups, mainly The 4 Seasons, The Monkees, and The Beatles. I also liked The Beach Boys and Lesley Gore and some of the girl groups. I wish that show hadn't been cancelled. When it was, I kinda fell out of touch with the deejays. That was a fun time in my life.

**hopes Stacey and Elora are going to come on!**

XD Man, Sonic X seems to be changing its format. Unless I was blind before. But I'm sure it wasn't always so similar to Pokémon. **pokes today's episode.** I wonder if the thing about the Chao garden is supposed to be starting the adaption of Sonic Adventure. I wanna see them do the SA2 stuff XD SHADOW! It'll get more intense then. I like shows that don't, you know, skip along merrily like little kids' shows XD Sonic X is pretty lighthearted. If it wasn't for being a Sonic show, I probably wouldn't watch XD But Knuckles has been in it! ^__^!!!! If nothing else, that means Sonic X needs to be praised XD But right now they're doing so many fillers and near-filler episodes that it's driving me buggy XD

Shaman King and the Turtles are switching times >< Blah. I was watching Shaman King when it was on at 8:30 (my time) because I don't like the XioLin Showdown on the WB during that slot, but now Shaman King's going to 9:30. I prefer keeping the TV on the WB during that timeslot, so I can be right ready to start recording YGO at 10:00. XD Buut oh well . . . I wanna see what happens next on Shaman King! >O< It left off at a suspenseful point! **feels so bad for Morty.** ;__; Annnd . . . I *do* like the Turtles XD Always have. **still can't believe Darren Dunstan (Pegasus) does Splinter's voice!**

I wonder what the WB did with Astro Boy. Surely they didn't boot it after only four or five episodes! And I hope no corporate execs said it was too similar to Cubix, which they gave to the Fox Box XD Astro Boy is a million times better than Cubix.

Teen Titans had a good two-parter. Man! Poor Robin! That was so terrible for him . . . being forced to steal for Slade so his friends wouldn't be killed by the probes Slade had put in their bodies ;__; Those episodes had a lot of angst and heart, but I would have liked a bit more h/c too XD And who the heck is Slade, anyway?! Is he that Oriental guy from that one episode whom Robin considered at the time could be him? **thinks.** XD Slade is a very good villain, BTW. I based some of a new OC's attributes on him, somewhat.

Meet Runihura! It means Destroyer. XD And it's appropriate for him. He's an ancient Egyptian who seems to have unlimited powers. He was around during the time of Pharaoh Atemu and is related to one of the palace priests. According to him, he's immortal and never died. Now he's been released on modern-day Domino City! Runihura is after different things, depending on where I'm using him XD First time he popped up, he wanted to challenge the one he considered his equal, the Witch of the Sands. He watches this person and tests her the way Slade tests Robin. Elsewhere Runihura emerged studying the tattoos on Marik's back (and still wanting to challenge someone, though not specified who). Oh yeah, and he controls lightning. He likes to stand out during thunderstorms and soak it up XD He considers those who can't handle being electrocuted as weak, which, of course, means practically everyone. There's a long scar trailing down the left side of his face. It looks a bit like Jet Black's, only even longer. @@ Dunno what that's from XD And what does this person look like? Well . . . I like to say he looks like Shadi gone nuts XD If you can imagine Shadi ever going nuts. Shadi himself is still the same as always, but he blames himself for Runihura being released, for reasons most unknown. And we don't know who it was that released the guy, except it wasn't Shadi XD

Devlin was killed by being pushed off the top of one. Heaven knows what he was doing up there. The gang is in a haunted amusement park.

..... And that is an RP, not a fic, if you were wondering XD And it's not finished yet. I hope the gal I was doing it with will be on this evening so we can do more with it! ^___^

Come to think of it, though, I did have a fic idea that involved a Ferris wheel. No one fell off in my fic idea. . . . Whoa, I got that idea way back in April and I haven't used it yet XD I'm sure I'll get around to it though ^___^

I'm so excited for the WB block today! ^^ Two new YuGiOhs again! YAY!! =3 And Sonic X!! And it'll be interesting to see what goes on with Pokémon Advanced. I like the new changes, but I hope that Misty will come back someday ^__~ I'm looking forward to Teen Titans and Jackie Chan too ^^

Yeah, I know Sonic X isn't on the WB, but I sure wish it was! I think Mucha Lucha belongs on the Fox Box because the programming there seems to lean more toward the disgusting than the WB's does. Sonic X should be on the WB instead ^o^ The WB let the Fox Box have Cubix, so why not Mucha Lucha? @@ That show is most definitely disgusting .__. No offense to anyone who likes it, but whoa. The Flea has some very revolting habits, especially his family's "secret move." EWWWW!!

I will admit that occassionally there's a cute episode (like the one where Buena Girl tries to put all her favorite toys away and not have any more to do with them when she really wants to keep having them around so badly), but usually that show is never up my alley. I don't like crude humor at all and I don't feel that shows need to rely on it. Why can't they be mature and have something NICE for their humor??! There isn't any need for crudeness.
