Since Dreamwidth decided to temporarily open things up for people to get accounts without codes, I decided I might as well get one while I could. http://insaneladybug.dreamwidth.org/ I'm not sure what I'll use it for, though. Maybe mainly random assorted musings, like I wanted to use my Insanejournal for. I wish Dreamwidth had that cute ladybug theme that Insanejournal has. And I wish we got more than the standard 15 icons. But it's a nice-looking place. I have a theme called Winter Court, so I decided to be funny and name all my pages court-related things.

You know, it's funny. I've been a Mario fan a lot longer than I've been a Sonic fan. I knew about Mario when I was three or four, about four years before Sonic. And yet the only merchandise I had was given to me: a couple of Valentines, some awesome science card samples I was sent in the mail, and a ROM of an out-of-print game collection.

This year, in the last couple of months, I've ended up with some Nintendo merchandise I purchased. On my birthday I found that Toys R Us was having a sale on all Mario stuff. I went on a mini-shopping spree and bought a blue Mario shirt and a Mario backpack plush. And I got a limited edition scarf free with the purchase.

Even though I love both Sonic and Mario, and think there's no reason why both can't be loved, I honestly felt a little guilty at first. I wondered if I should have bought more Sonic merchandise instead, since his franchise is my favorite of the two. But luckily I soon got over such guilt and am thrilled with my purchases.

F.Y.E. has backpack plushies too, but their prices have become atrocious. They were charging $25 compared to Toys R Us's $16.99! (And I got the Mario plush at a further discount.) However, for Christmas they've had a sale where they charged $16.99. They're the only place I've seen Luigi other than online. So I decided while we were out shopping a week or so ago that I should buy Luigi with my share of some Christmas money friends had given us. I did exactly that. It looks awesome to see Mario and Luigi plushies sitting on my bed after wanting such things for years. I remember cutting a picture of Mario out of a magazine when I was about four and saying it was a plushie for one of my figures. And longing for it to be a real plushie that I could have.

F.Y.E. also had sales on a lot of TV show box sets. I got Perry Mason season 2, volume 1 and The Wild Wild West season 2 for Christmas. Each was only $14.99! And I bought The Wild Wild West season 3 when I got Luigi. With it being such an amazing sale, I decided I should milk it for all that I could.

And my gosh, Mario games are so much harder than Sonic. Or at least the old ones are. With Sonic you have rings, and if you're hit you drop them and you can usually gather at least some of them up again and keep going indefinitely. With Mario the coins have no bearing on whether you live or die. You can be plowed down in an instant by walking into a baddie, even if you have plenty of coins. It's so aggravating!

Also, I find it amusing that while Yoshi is one of the most popular and well-loved characters in the franchise, I barely know anything about him. The games I usually played were the first ones, before Yoshi ever came into it. The characters I'm familiar with are Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Toad, and Bowser. While I don't know much about Princess Daisy, however, I am very fond of her. Mostly that's a bias due to her name, I suppose. And I know about Wario, despite never playing games with him in them. Luigi's counterpart Waluigi freaks me out. The main thing that creeps me out, for some reason, is the upsidedown L on his hat. I don't know why, but it looks creepy to me.

My latest Perry mystery is proceeding very nicely. I was thinking about the climax, but I don't think I'll muse on the details here, as I may be having some visitors who are reading the story. I want to keep this one's twists a surprise. But I will say that I'm in chapter 7 now and hoping that I can set things up for Paul and Hamilton to interact more. Right now they're separated, each trying to convince certain people who don't remember that what they're saying is the truth. I want this disaster to bring them closer together, even to the point where they might finally consider each other friends.

And you know, I've never been a really big meat fan. I eat it on pizza and in stews and soups, but when it comes to eating it plain, I don't particularly care for it. It always seems so dry. I love cooked cold turkey, but I rarely like it heated unless it's drenched in gravy. And I don't like roast beef. It mushes around and takes forever to eat.

I do, however, have an insatiable love for chicken and pork. Particularly chicken with that wonderful crunchy breaded stuff on it. Pork I happily eat down plain or on sandwiches or with cheese.

I rarely eat meat of any kind, though, other than on pizza. Mostly we use meat substitutes. I love Morningstar Farms, dislike most of Boca's, can't stand Gardenburger, and generally like Veggie Patch. I actually feel a bit guilty for not liking Gardenburger, as I think they were the first. And without them there might not have been any others. But I just don't care for their varieties. There's too much mushroom, too much rice, and too much of something else (maybe seasoning). I've tried several kinds and I just can't get into it.

I really wonder what it is that Hobbits see in mushrooms. I don't hate them, but they're certainly not a go-to food for me.

First three chapters of A Change in My Life, the Second Look fic, are up. X3 I really like how they turned out, especially the meetings, but I still wonder if they need more. XD; Chapter 2 is really short, for one thing. It's driving me nuts. I keep wondering if there's something I can do to lengthen it, or at least Barry's scenes in general. He's really hard for me to write for, but actually, all of them are hard to write for very long in this scenario. They won't remember for ages, but the main action only happens when they meet. The fic is much easier to write when they meet, and I hope it will continue to be. XD; I kind of stalled a bit, wondering what happens until they do remember, but some more ideas came to light.

For one thing, I realized that it's kind of like Princess Tutu, in that the characters are trapped in a "story" and are trying to break free of their assigned "roles." X3 The double is Drosselmeyer, pulling all the strings and delighting in their suffering. Though unlike Drosselmeyer, who just wants to tell a good, tragic story, the double relishes the pain he's causing because of how much he hates Scott. ;___;

There's other characters in the double's "story" too---so far, Double Trouble and Mrs. Pumpkinclanger have appeared. And pretty much everyone is being manipulated. I'm toying with the idea of a scene where Scott meets Louie once they break the double's spell and Louie is bewildered because he thinks he remembers Scott from somewhere. And Scott, knowing the full truth would be too bizarre to relate, tells him, "Well, maybe in another lifetime...."

I had actually also been toying with Louie and Ms. Parker and those other minor OCs not even being real and only being products of the double's mind, but I think I want them to really exist. XD;

I also wonder if I need to change the chapter titles. Originally it was slated for six chapters, enough to have all the lines from A Change in My Life's chorus as titles. But now I wonder if it will be more chapters than that, and if other lines from the song would fit some chapters better than the chorus lines. XD;

I picked up a Sonic shirt at Wal-Mart. X3 I just love it; it's red (one of my best colors) and has Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles in their Sonic Adventure designs. I was at Hot Topic several days later and saw some old-school Sonic shirts, but I like mine much better. **prefers the Sonic Adventure designs.** Beside, Knuckles is only on mine. X3 He's my favorite. (It was Sonic, until Knuckles was introduced. And yeah, aloof, tough, loner = me definitely being interested. I think he was one of the first characters of that type I liked.)

I hate going in Hot Topic because it's so loud, but luckily, it wasn't so bad this time. XD; Especially a good thing because Mom was with me, and I would have been embarrassed to take her in there if heavy metal was blaring out. It was fun looking at the old-school Sonic, Mario, and TMNT stuff, but I didn't locate any of what I was trying to: Disney Afternoon and Carmen shirts, all of which I'd heard they had. Maybe those shirts are just on their website now....

I might actually go back to Hot Topic and buy an old-school Mario shirt sometime. X3 They had a cute one I liked that said Team Luigi. Other than the Mario stuff, I didn't really see anything I'd want. I also prefer the new TMNT over the old, and they only had stuff for the old. XD; They did have some awesome KH shirts, but nothing with Cloud or Seph. ;___;

And Crystal showed me an episode of Shining Time Station. X3 LOL, that show was always awesome. It still is. Schemer = LOL. And I realized how much he reminds me of Sach from the Bowery Boys, but I think that's mostly because of how he looks wearing a baseball cap rather than his actual personality.

The episode was hilarious! It was the one where they're going to stay overnight in the station so Stacy (Stacey? Which way?) can make sure some automatic mail thing works right, and Schemer tries to scare the kids by pretending to be The Man With His Head On Backwards. LOLOLOL. (We never do learn that myth's backstory, but maybe that's a good thing. XD;) He ends up seeing some Jack-O'Lantern decoration on the wall and gets scared himself, after putting his clothes on backwards and trying to walk backwards to look like the guy. **snarks.**

I was surprised not to see Didi (DeeDee?) in the jukebox scene. LOL, when I was little, Grace was the only one I liked. XD; Tito scared me because of his nickel obsession, and the cowboys kind of annoyed me because they seemed kind of ... well, like idiots, LOL. And Didi scared me because I couldn't see her eyes. XD I'm not sure how I'll feel now.

I was really surprised by the train segments. Thomas was so meaaan in both of them. I remembered Thomas could be irresponsible, but I didn't remember he was mean to the other trains. ;___; Gosh, he was made to believe Percy was dead in the first segment and he didn't care at all. He was thinking, "Oh bother, now I'll have to wait for them to clear the line so I can go through." At first I thought Percy was mean to play the trick after Thomas had teased him, but then when I saw Thomas's reaction it was kind of ... Blurgh. The next day he was talking to Toby and said, "I knew you'd be feeling sad about Percy ..." I mean, bleh, he acted so heartless about the whole thing. And he really did believe Percy was dead, so he wasn't being blasé because he knew it was a trick or something.

Afterwards, I watched a little of the Thriller MV (and was amused at how MJ poked fun at the werewolf clichés), but I didn't watch the whole thing because I wasn't sure I wanted to see him turn into a zombie for some of it. XD I'll work up to it, maybe.

So I went and watched Beat It, then went to Weird Al's parody Eat It. Priceless! LOLOLOL. I just love how he had the same locations and choreography and stuff, all while singing about food. "Why are you such a fussy young man? Don't want no Captain Crunch, don't want no Raisin Bran." LOL! And then him waking up at the end of the MV with a stomachache.... **snarks.**

How old is old-school? I would consider "old-school" early nineties. And for me, it'd be a toss-up between the Sega Genesis Sonic games (particularly Sonic 3/Sonic & Knuckles, which should be combined into Sonic 3 and Knuckles for maximum enjoyment. X3) and the early Super Mario Brothers games. Particularly Super Mario 2 and Super Mario 3. Oh man, I loved those so much. I was always begging my brother to let me play his copy of Super Mario All-Stars. Princess Peach was my favorite to play as in Mario 2, though unfortunately she isn't always as practical when she can't jump as high as Mario and Luigi. ;__; And Mario 3 ... ! **squees.** I couldn't get enough of the fun of getting Raccoon Mario and making him fly. And I was so excited when I finally completed the barge for the first world. XD;

I love Super Mario 1 and the Lost Levels too, though not as much. I think it was Mario 1 I dreamed about, however. XD **remembers one bizarre dream where she played up to like level 44 or something, which of course doesn't exist.**

Unfortunately, neither my brother or I had a Sega Genesis system, so when I wanted to play Sonic, I had to rely on friends and the displays in Toys R Us. I was ecstatic when I finally got some Sonic games to be played on the PC. ♥

Read cases 2 and 3 on Saturday night. (Yeah, I wasn't doing anything in order. 4 was what got me really excited, so I read it first.) Maya was such a ditz in some parts near the beginning of case 4 that I was afraid she was going to be a walking cliché. But I did love her part in getting the trial extended, and of course, she saved the bullet! And after reading 2 and 3 she's starting to grow on me. I watched some cutscenes, too. Found case 4 on YouTube. X3 Now if I could just find case 5! ;__; The script for it wasn't complete at the place where I got the others.

The TGS trailer with voices is fun. XD I think everyone sounds perfect. I just wish that the English version would have voices. I could only find a fandub, which I liked (and it's rare for me + fandub = love), but I wanted to hear something official.

Been working on a ficlit with Seph and Zack. It's coming out cute! X3 I'd wanted to finish it Saturday night, but that didn't happen, and it's still not totally done. Gotta fix up that thing with Hades and KH Seph too.

And why, why, WHY do the Wandering Hammer Brothers in the Mario games make me think of the Rakeshes every time? **headdesk.** I have an odd fondness for them because of that.
