I'm slightly worried to use this as The Persuaders! icon that everyone probably knew was coming, since it makes it look like Brett and Danny are different heights when they're really about the same height, but it's such a squeeable picture. I don't have the DVDs yet, and this was the picture I liked best that was available in the highest iconning quality when I did a search.

It has been a very busy and interesting week. Maybe I'll type things up in more detail later, but right now I just want to blog about a couple of things.

We got a couple of awesome coupons to try out McDonald's Create-a-Burger thingie, so we investigated last Wednesday. It was epic and awesome and it's hard to think of ever eating their standard burgers after eating one of those. It was sooo good. I had two kinds of cheese and tomato and lettuce and a special artisan bun....

The coupon I used gave a free Happy Meal with the purchase of a Create-a-Burger. The kids' toys this month were ShopKins and Rabbids. I rather abhor Rabbids. I knew nothing of ShopKins, but anything sounded better than Rabbids.

I waited until I got home from our little shopping trip before I took the toys out of the bag to examine them fully. Apparently they're inanimate objects with faces. I got a ring and a mirror, and they came in a plastic bag (which, oddly enough, didn't have a face). I'm such a sentimental slob that I found the things utterly adorable. I looked at the available ones at Wal-Mart when we were there next, but I didn't find them as compelling. They're much smaller than the McDonald's toys, interestingly, and the current line is anthropomorphic food, which I ... really kind of don't like. Then it makes me uncomfortable thinking of eating food if I'm picturing everything from cheese to ice cream having faces and being alive. Um, no.

Actually, I kind of liked the McDonald's ones so much that I kind of wish I could get more of theirs. But I don't have the money to spend on that. (Plus, I guess they'll probably be gone now if they were December's toys.) They were really high-quality, though, and I was really impressed.

I got some awesome Build-a-Bear gift cards from Ladyamberjo and Lisa, and then the store sent me a $10 off thingie that was only good for this week. So I was worried about getting there and being able to use the certificate/coupon thing. Dad doesn't like to go out for just one thing. There's several things we need to do up there, but last night he finally agreed we could go up and we were borrowing a car again and we had to have it back by a certain time. Our car went kerplunk again earlier this month and the only way we've been able to get around is by borrowing a friend's car. Gah.

The store was so extremely crowded that it proved impossible to go anywhere else. I swear, I have never seen it that crowded except before Christmas. I didn't think it would be so active after Christmas! But I was able to get Shining Armor, as I hoped. I also checked out the new Pikachu. I was surprised he was $28 instead of $25 (yikes), but he looks really high-quality too. I'm considering getting him, depending on when Muffins is reissued. I still have plenty of gift card money and another coupon good through part of February. Meanwhile, my Funrise Cadance is perfectly in scale with Shining Armor, as I'd hoped, and she looks so happy to have him here at last.

Among the things I watched for Christmas was Mickey's Christmas Carol, which got me thinking a lot about Scrooge McDuck and Alan Young and how awesome it is that Alan still voices Scrooge. I can hardly believe that they really won't use him on this DuckTales reboot. Terrance McGovern says that everyone is being replaced. That is sacrilege. Why not use anyone who's still around and interested from the old days? I think I need to look into Terrance's Facebook; he sounds adorable. I read the blurb where he was talking about everyone being replaced and he said he hadn't told Launchpad yet. Launchpad was out in the garage working on the Thunderquack. I love someone like that who really cares about the characters they play, instead of just considering it a job. I can't imagine anyone else bringing Launchpad or Scrooge to life, honestly.

They used Alan Young for Scrooge just earlier this year, in some silly Mickey Mouse cartoon. He only had a line or two, but it was so wonderful to hear him again! He sounds just the same; it's incredible! He's 96 and still kicking. So, so awesome.

Apparently there's a series of Mickey Mouse cartoons airing now. They use a pretty retro style for the characters; Mickey only wears shorts and shoes, for instance. And it's some strange slapstick thing like old cartoons were. I read an episode guide and one episode said Mickey loses his ears.... Um, WTH? Mickey isn't Felix the Cat. But so I don't think I'd go much for the show. I didn't cotton a whole lot to the episode I watched. Goofy fell in love and Mickey and Donald were trying to help him, only at the end they find out he's in love with the sandwich the waitress was holding and not the waitress. The episode ended with a marriage ceremony and being pronounced "husband and sandwich." Goofy then ate the sandwich. It was so, so weird and stupid. But I have to admit, Mickey and Donald exclaiming, "He's in love with a sandwich????!!!!" was kind of epically priceless. ROTFLOL.

Another thing I didn't like a whole lot was that they kind of simplified Scrooge's character. He acted more like his namesake, LOL. He promptly kicked everyone out when Donald asked for money. I think the DuckTales version would have started choking on his tea and exclaimed, "WHAT???!!!" But regardless, it was so good to hear Alan again, and I'm so glad they had Scrooge wear blue, like on DuckTales. In the comics it's usually red.

If the whole cast is really being replaced for the DuckTales reboot, the only good thing about it is that there will hopefully be new merchandise. Maybe I can finally get a Scrooge plushie. I tried to get one years ago, when I got Darkwing, but I lost the auction.

Wow.

Went to the church Christmas party tonight. Yuuum, the food was delicious! I was hoping for a dinner like this one year when people made these amazing potato and cheese casseroles, but I figured it would probably be like it usually is, where it's just roast beef and baked potato and maybe green beans.

Well, this year it wasn't either one! This year there was turkey, and oh man, it was actually really good. Sooo soft and moist and juicy. I wish we could get ours to go like that; it's always so dry and frustrating.

The baked potatoes were divine, of course; potatoes always are. There were leftovers and we took six potatoes to bring home, buwahaha.

There were also many Jell-O/fruit salads. I tried one that I liked, but for the life of me I couldn't remember what kind of fruit in it I was tasting. I still don't remember.

Dessert was ice cream with giant brownies. YUUUM, brownies!

There were also some delicious rolls. And butter and sour cream for the potatoes, of course. And a vegetable platter; I took some olives and a pickle. I know I shouldn't eat them too much, and I don't, but I love me some pickles.

Some people at the table were talking about Jessica Simpson at one point and their kid didn't know who she was. Man, that made me feel old.

Then a local singing group performed a really fun Christmas concert on the stage in the room where we were eating. The group's name was Chantilly Lace; I wonder how many people younger than the group members know where their name likely came from! (A popular Big Bopper song from the 1950s. I got it stuck in my head as we left. I haven't heard it for years, but I remembered most of the chorus.) They sang some Christmas standards and some rare Christmas songs, a couple I knew, but most I was unfamiliar with. That was neat. The only one of the rare ones I thought maybe I'd heard before was about Santa using zebras instead of reindeer, LOL. I absolutely have never before heard one called Don't Wanna Wait, from children's perspectives, and one called Father Christmas (not to be confused with I Believed in Father Christmas). The only rare one I definitely have heard before is I'm Gettin' Nothin' for Christmas, an amusing ditty about a very naughty kid.

All in all, it was a lovely time and I'm so glad they didn't serve roast beef again. I really don't like roast beef; it mushes around in your mouth forever.

This is kind of a busy week. Sadly, the other busyness is not fun times; there's a funeral on Saturday. One of my aunts-in-law died. I don't remember her very well, as we didn't see her a lot, but she was a very sweet person and I feel so bad for my uncle. This is the second time he's been married and the second wife who died. The first wife had cancer, if I remember right, and she didn't want him to be alone, so she wanted him to marry her best friend after she died. That happened, and now it's the friend who just died.

I hate to use a funeral as a reason to do something fun, but we're not often up in the area where the funeral will be, so I am hoping to do a little shopping while we're out. Build-a-Bear sent me my $10 gift certificate because I have apparently spent $100 there since my last certificate. It's used like a gift card, so it can be combined with coupons, and I have a $5 coupon. I'm hoping to get Zecora. Man, I hope they'll still have her. I'll get Shining Armor if they don't, probably, or the cat I've wanted if they don't have either one. Since Zecora and Shining Armor are both leftover stock from the online-only period, I don't know how many were going out to each store or if they'll restock when they sell the ones they had. I've been monitoring the Pony forum hoping for some information on that, but no one has posted on it. Maybe I'll ask, but they probably don't know or they would have already said. I don't like asking on Build-a-Bear's Facebook page, because it seems like the people handling it don't always know what's really going on at the stores.

I'm also hoping to check some Wal-Marts for the Sunset Shimmer plush. Ours restocked with more Scootaloos (still flawed enough that I didn't get her), but no Sunsets, even though they're from the same wave. That's making me lose hope again. Seriously, what is the deal? Why is Wal-Mart being so lazy with new Funrise plushies this year? Or maybe it's Funrise being lazy about sending the new characters out, since they're scarce everywhere. There's Sunset, Sweetie Belle, Lyra, and Sweetie Drops, all in the 10-inch size and all missing from the majority of stores (including eBay)! There's also a 5-inch Sunset, I've discovered, and if I see her in person, I'll probably buy her while I'm waiting for the big one.

Wal-Mart has lowered the price on the archery Twilight doll. I've been debating whether to get her or whether to keep trying to get the two-pack with Flash Sentry. I still lean towards the latter, since the glasses are canon-correct in the two-pack but not the archery doll. And since getting two dolls is awesome and I like Flash Sentry. I don't get the hate regarding the character. He's a nice, sensitive guy. I may not particularly want him and Twilight to really get deeply, romantically involved, since I'd rather the focus stay on friendships, but when it's just an innocent crush, it's cute.

Wal-Mart also suddenly doesn't have any Fashion Styles. The Sunsets disappeared several weeks ago and now Cadance has followed suit. I don't know if they're going to restock or not. I always wanted the Sunset one, but kept hoping there would be a sale. There usually isn't on Fashion Styles, though, and I'm thinking maybe I'd better get her even at full-price if I see her at another Wal-Mart. Of course she'd vanish when I can actually afford to get her.... I also kind of like the motocross Sunset doll, but I don't know if I'll get her since I already have two Sunset dolls. But it's tempting when she is one of my favorite characters. Twilight is the only one I like more. Another reason I've hesitated on the Fashion Style is because I prefer Sunset as a human, but really, I love any incarnation of her. Well, I'm not too fond of the she-demon version when she got overwhelmed by the crown. But I would totally buy Midnight Sparkle if that doll ever comes here. Human Twilight didn't go all demon-ish when she got overwhelmed by releasing the captured magic; she just went dark. (And then was saved by Sunset and Spike, ohmygoshsquee.)

And Wal-Mart has these adorable Hello Kitty pajamas that are only $10! I've been debating getting them. I don't really need pajamas; I have two working sets. But they do last longer in rotation, so the more you have, the longer it takes them to wear out. Still, it doesn't seem very practical to get them. But they're so cute.... And possibly the top wouldn't be too hot to wear when it's lighter colors. I wear a nightgown with my pajama bottoms and only use the tops as shawls when I'm up and around, because they're just too hot to wear to bed. And my nightgown is rather in need of replacement by now....

Yuuuum.

Had lunch at Taco Bell with a local friend today. It was great to see her, and the food was divine! So much cheeeese! And a lovely giant cup of ice water. So cold and good.

It's right by Wal-Mart, so I peeked in there afterwards, but still no Sunset Shimmer plushie. Applejack is still gorgeous and autumny, though, and I don't think I'm going to be able to resist her for long. I should really wait until I have some more money, but we'll see how well my willpower holds up. I'm so glad I didn't get the stamper Applejack; I like this one sooo much better. I think Hasbro is improving more and more with each new line!

Got a Build-a-Bear catalog in the mail today, including another copy of the $5 off coupon they already sent me in the email. There's going to be a Derpy/Ditzy/Bubbles/Muffin plush. (Yeah, such confusion over the name! I kind of prefer Bubbles or Bubblecup, since that goes along with her symbol, but I think I heard that Muffin is the official name now? If there is an official name.) I don't know when she's coming out, though. She wasn't in the catalog. The picture was already released, which usually only happens close to release date, but there's apparently been no word on when she's coming. I was hoping it would be in time to use the coupon, which is good through August. If that falls through, I've been trying to think of what else I could use it for.

Of course, there's that perennial question of whether to buy Rainbow Dash or Pinkie Pie. They're still possibilities, but what I really have my eye on is one of the house brand plushies. They've released a series of plushies that are in a band together, and I really want the purple cat/tiger. I thought it was a tabby, but it says on the website that she's a tiger. I'm surprised by that, honestly, because the ears look like a house cat's ears, not a tiger's ears. But whatever. I love her design and I like her image song, but I don't like her price: $28! Pretty expensive for a house brand plushie. The $5 off coupon would help, but then there's the fact that this plushie would need clothes, just like my Hello Kitty. So I'm undecided on whether to get her. Maybe I'll see what they have for discount clothes when I'm there and then decide.

I stole something from Tumblr again. This was on Gwen's Tumblr, but I'm not sure if she wrote it or was just posting it from someone else. (It wasn't a reblog.)

50 question meme )

I was also tagged to answer some questions that Kohaku and Trix wrote. I don't use my Tumblr for posting memes and such, so I decided to bring those over here too. Trix's first, then Kohaku's, which is the order I saw them.

So Netflix has a disc that I thought had the pilot episode of The Rookies on it, because Darren is listed in their cast for the disc and he's in the pilot episode of The Rookies.

Well, the disc didn't have that; it's just the first episode of the series proper, which does not have Darren. And Darren wasn't in any of the other things on the disc, either. Bah.

It was kind of an interesting disc, though. It had the first episodes of five different detective shows of the 1970s. We watched all of them except The Rookies episode, ironically enough. It sounded rather blah compared to the others. Teen gangs, one of my least favorite topics ever. Ugh, I just can't stand seeing obnoxious, disrespectful kids trying to act like adults and fighting with each other over the dumbest things, like pieces of sidewalk. I totally get Lieutenant Schrank's frustrations with the gangs in West Side Story. No, he didn't handle things very well, but after so many years of trying and failing, he must have really been at his wit's end.

Anyway, the disc. Maybe we'll watch The Rookies one, but I'm not sure. When Darren's not in it, and no one else is in it whom I particularly like, and the plot sounds blah, it doesn't seem very appealing.

We watched the Starsky and Hutch episode. I'm always curious about that show because I hear how close the main characters are, but I ... really didn't see much of that in the first episode. The one guy, Hutch, really acted like a jerk at one point, even dumping Starsky's hot dog because he didn't like the idea of everything Starsky was putting on it. LAME! He tried to use the excuse that Starsky couldn't eat it while he was driving, but gosh, they could have taken it along and he could have eaten it when they stopped. Ugh, and in addition to how just plain jerky that was, I can't stand seeing perfectly good food get wasted. It's an extreme pet peeve of mine. I can't bear to watch that scene in the first Monkees episode where Davy and Theodore Marcuse are fighting on the table and ruining the food. The scene is really hilarious other than that, but ugggh, noooo, the fooood!

I suppose there are much better scenes between Starsky and Hutch in later episodes. The first episodes are rarely the best judge of character relations. But it certainly wasn't very flattering for one of my first ventures into the series. (First venture was the episode where their insane friend is hiring out as an assassin because he likes killing and he kills poor Luke Andreas in a phone booth. Nooo, Lukey! **hugs him!** And then I also saw part of another episode because someone got the numbers mixed up and I started out with the wrong one instead of the one with Luke.)

I haven't really liked the show any of the times I've tried it. I don't mind a little humor in cop shows; Adam-12 and CHiPs are adorably hilarious sometimes. But I don't like when the main characters seem to have so much trouble being serious. That's also why I didn't cotton to Alias Smith and Jones, but adore Maverick. Smith and Jones are so happy-go-lucky in addition to the show being silly, and that tends to irritate me. But on Maverick, the main characters are really the straight men, trying to deal with all the weirdness around them. There's a definite difference.

I enjoyed the Police Woman, S.W.A.T., and Charlie's Angels episodes on the disc quite a bit. I've seen some of all of them before and have always pretty much liked what I saw. Charlie's Angels is so cheesy, but gosh, it's fun. I love good old clean 1970s cheese. And David Doyle is kind of cute in a Simon Oakland-ish way. :) I already liked him from The Patty Duke Show, and I think I may be becoming downright fond of him. Must see more of this wonderful cheesy show.

So CBS has a website where they sell shirts of a lot of their shows. A lot of it's just logos, but there are some with characters. http://www.shoptvcity.com

I was there today, just looking around as I like to do now and then, and I requested them to make a Twilight Zone shirt with David Ellington from The Howling Man on it. An officially made shirt with H.M. Wynant would be so, so awesome. I'm trying to design a shirt with some of his characters to have custom-made for me, but I haven't quite figured out which characters to have represented on it yet (except that I know Coley Rodman will be there). If the place still exists (it's called The Big Tees, LOL), I can get a shirt made up there for $14.95. Last year, I had them make up one of my Hamilton Burger shirt designs. (Squee!)

Anyway, so I was browsing this CBS website and looked at their Andy Griffith shirts. And man, a little wave of nostalgia definitely swept over me. I remembered the summer of about 1998, when I discovered Andy reruns on our Fox affiliate. That was in July, so the whole rest of the summer was very Andy-filled.

Actually, that whole year starting with March was Andy filled. I remember special day-trips all over the valley with Dad, and stopping at various libraries in the City and County systems to pick up books on hold. I remember checking out the Andy Griffith cookbooks and writing down some of the recipes I particularly wanted to save and try.

That was the era when you could go to a bookstore and there would be tons of classic TV books on the shelves. PARADISE. I remember in March, going to Borders and seeing Barney Fife's Guide to Life, Love, and Self-Defense (a hilarious piece), as well as a couple of straight books about the series. I determined then and there that I was going to purchase one, and had it put on hold while I sold short stories around the neighborhood that I'd written with original characters of mine and earned the $10.61 needed to get the book. (I seem to remember dumping a lot of change on the counter at Borders, LOL.) It took all the money I had at that time, with the exception of a few cents (I think), but I found it entirely worth it. I read and re-read that book so much that it got dog-eared and started falling apart. I still have it.

It's funny how my interest in classic TV started. I listened to Mom telling about all those old shows for years, and I was interested and liked the sound of a lot of them, but then for some reason, when I had her tell me for the umpteenth time about Andy Griffith in March of 1998, I suddenly got smacked in the head with a strong desire to finally see the series and a determination to learn more and more. And unlike some whims of mine that came and went in a few days, that interest stayed. And stayed. And blossomed into my explorations into many other classic TV series.

The same thing kind of happened when I decided I wanted oldies music on the radio. I'd loved playing Mom's old records and I wanted to see if any stations were playing similar music. I stumbled across one and was hooked. That led to my interest in The 4 Seasons, The Monkees, The Beatles, and others.

Anyway, Andy Griffith. Even though I really don't care for the episodes where Andy kept disbelieving in Opie (why, why did it keep happening? You'd think Andy would have realized he could trust his son better than that, after what happened in the coat episode and some other early ones), there's still so much good in the show and I love it for those times. Barney. Aunt Bee. Gomer. Floyd....

I think the third and fourth seasons have the highest concentration of my favorite episodes, although 1 and 2 had some great ones as well, and even 5. The very controversial color episodes are generally not among my favorites. I don't like Barney's departure. However, I do like Howard Sprague, and there's some fun episodes with him, Floyd, and Otis in the color years. I also don't tend to mind Warren.

But classic Andy is the B&W seasons, and I could do with some great third and fourth season episodes right now.

I miss that time of innocence and discovery, my excitement over the series, summer nights of watching episodes, and summer days of getting and reading books and trying recipes.

I think specifically, I miss the days of the original blue cookbook, and maybe I'll look for that and try to buy it at long last, if it's still in print. Thinking about that cookbook is bringing back such lovely memories for me, from a time in my life that's long gone now. (And having it would lead to such lovely food!)

(Anyone remember the commercials that used that tagline?)

One of the most frustrating and pointless inventions ever: pre-sliced cheese. Seriously, it's really only good if you're having a big gathering and don't have time to slice it yourself. For every day use, it just doesn't cut it. (Pun half-intended.)

It's not as fresh as brick cheese. Right as soon as you open the package, it's not that fresh, because being in one lump preserves the freshness. Since someone already cut it all up, it's going a little funny right away. And it goes even funnier before you ever get the whole thing used.

And those pieces of papers that are supposed to divide the slices don't do their proper job. They don't cover the entire slice, and wherever the paper isn't, the slices are stuck together! I've had a terrible time prying slices apart. I had to actually get a knife in most cases. And usually part of the next slice still comes off on the one I'm trying to get loose! That's pathetic.

Finally, the slices are too thin! It usually takes two slices of pre-sliced cheese to make a slice as thick as I usually like, especially for something like a sandwich. I don't like someone else deciding how thick my cheese can be! It's very annoying.

Dad accidentally picked up a package of pre-sliced cheese back in December and it was not fun working through it. I rejoiced when we finished it off and could start on a lovely, normal brick of cheese again. We're getting close to being halfway down on the brick, and it's so gloriously fresh and tasty! And I love being able to determine how thick to cut it again.

Since Dreamwidth decided to temporarily open things up for people to get accounts without codes, I decided I might as well get one while I could. http://insaneladybug.dreamwidth.org/ I'm not sure what I'll use it for, though. Maybe mainly random assorted musings, like I wanted to use my Insanejournal for. I wish Dreamwidth had that cute ladybug theme that Insanejournal has. And I wish we got more than the standard 15 icons. But it's a nice-looking place. I have a theme called Winter Court, so I decided to be funny and name all my pages court-related things.

You know, it's funny. I've been a Mario fan a lot longer than I've been a Sonic fan. I knew about Mario when I was three or four, about four years before Sonic. And yet the only merchandise I had was given to me: a couple of Valentines, some awesome science card samples I was sent in the mail, and a ROM of an out-of-print game collection.

This year, in the last couple of months, I've ended up with some Nintendo merchandise I purchased. On my birthday I found that Toys R Us was having a sale on all Mario stuff. I went on a mini-shopping spree and bought a blue Mario shirt and a Mario backpack plush. And I got a limited edition scarf free with the purchase.

Even though I love both Sonic and Mario, and think there's no reason why both can't be loved, I honestly felt a little guilty at first. I wondered if I should have bought more Sonic merchandise instead, since his franchise is my favorite of the two. But luckily I soon got over such guilt and am thrilled with my purchases.

F.Y.E. has backpack plushies too, but their prices have become atrocious. They were charging $25 compared to Toys R Us's $16.99! (And I got the Mario plush at a further discount.) However, for Christmas they've had a sale where they charged $16.99. They're the only place I've seen Luigi other than online. So I decided while we were out shopping a week or so ago that I should buy Luigi with my share of some Christmas money friends had given us. I did exactly that. It looks awesome to see Mario and Luigi plushies sitting on my bed after wanting such things for years. I remember cutting a picture of Mario out of a magazine when I was about four and saying it was a plushie for one of my figures. And longing for it to be a real plushie that I could have.

F.Y.E. also had sales on a lot of TV show box sets. I got Perry Mason season 2, volume 1 and The Wild Wild West season 2 for Christmas. Each was only $14.99! And I bought The Wild Wild West season 3 when I got Luigi. With it being such an amazing sale, I decided I should milk it for all that I could.

And my gosh, Mario games are so much harder than Sonic. Or at least the old ones are. With Sonic you have rings, and if you're hit you drop them and you can usually gather at least some of them up again and keep going indefinitely. With Mario the coins have no bearing on whether you live or die. You can be plowed down in an instant by walking into a baddie, even if you have plenty of coins. It's so aggravating!

Also, I find it amusing that while Yoshi is one of the most popular and well-loved characters in the franchise, I barely know anything about him. The games I usually played were the first ones, before Yoshi ever came into it. The characters I'm familiar with are Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Toad, and Bowser. While I don't know much about Princess Daisy, however, I am very fond of her. Mostly that's a bias due to her name, I suppose. And I know about Wario, despite never playing games with him in them. Luigi's counterpart Waluigi freaks me out. The main thing that creeps me out, for some reason, is the upsidedown L on his hat. I don't know why, but it looks creepy to me.

My latest Perry mystery is proceeding very nicely. I was thinking about the climax, but I don't think I'll muse on the details here, as I may be having some visitors who are reading the story. I want to keep this one's twists a surprise. But I will say that I'm in chapter 7 now and hoping that I can set things up for Paul and Hamilton to interact more. Right now they're separated, each trying to convince certain people who don't remember that what they're saying is the truth. I want this disaster to bring them closer together, even to the point where they might finally consider each other friends.

And you know, I've never been a really big meat fan. I eat it on pizza and in stews and soups, but when it comes to eating it plain, I don't particularly care for it. It always seems so dry. I love cooked cold turkey, but I rarely like it heated unless it's drenched in gravy. And I don't like roast beef. It mushes around and takes forever to eat.

I do, however, have an insatiable love for chicken and pork. Particularly chicken with that wonderful crunchy breaded stuff on it. Pork I happily eat down plain or on sandwiches or with cheese.

I rarely eat meat of any kind, though, other than on pizza. Mostly we use meat substitutes. I love Morningstar Farms, dislike most of Boca's, can't stand Gardenburger, and generally like Veggie Patch. I actually feel a bit guilty for not liking Gardenburger, as I think they were the first. And without them there might not have been any others. But I just don't care for their varieties. There's too much mushroom, too much rice, and too much of something else (maybe seasoning). I've tried several kinds and I just can't get into it.

I really wonder what it is that Hobbits see in mushrooms. I don't hate them, but they're certainly not a go-to food for me.

Heh.

I am like Adrian Monk in many ways. One of which is that when I posted my chapter to my fic journal yesterday, I discovered I'd forgotten to post Nuit's birthday fic from Monday in there. And it bothered me so much that they wouldn't be in chronological posting order that I almost felt like deleting the post with the chapter in order to make the other post come first. Unlike Monk, I made myself not follow through. I don't think he could have resisted.

I am very obsessive-compulsive about fic order, as well as organization of books, music, DVDs, etc. I've never been a fan of those cloth booklet things that you use to remove the CDs from their cases when traveling with them. CDs must stay in their cases when they're not in the CD player. Likewise with DVDs. I also like arranging my plushies in a specific order, as well as figures, collectible dolls, throw pillows, etc. I'm slightly more relaxed than I used to be; when I was younger I absolutely *hated* if one plushie/figure was out of its usual place. Although these days I'll still try to ensure that they stick to said places.

I'm into chapter fourteen of the thriller fic now. I got the first robbery scene done in thirteen. Fakir doesn't help them. Thirteen also has the scene I was anxious to get to that I thought would be in eleven. Albeit I cheated and wrote it out of order, something I haven't done in a while. Part of the scene ended up as the beginning of fourteen, as I discovered it really needed to be lengthened and having it in thirteen was making the chapter too long and the scene too cramped and stuck-on.

Eleven has a scene I really like too, for that matter. I'll be anxious to get that one up.

And because I love Sailor Moon and likely always will, here is a meme/quiz from [livejournal.com profile] heaven_phoenix.

ladybug_archive: (cheerforthebroken)
A. List seven habits/quirks/facts about yourself.
B. Tag seven people to do the same.
C. Do not tag the person who tagged you or say that you tag "whoever wants to do it."

1. I cannot STAND Ramen noodles or anything similar (such as soups that seem to have such noodles in them), and I honestly wonder why people think they're so great. Every time except one when I've eaten them, I've gotten very sick (like, fluish symptoms, nausea, and I think sometimes I've ended up right down in bed). And the time that didn't happen, it felt like it would. I would honestly like to know what it is in them that I have such a bad reaction to. And out of curiosity, is there anyone on the friends list who doesn't like them, either? **doubts it; saying you don't like them seems to be akin to saying you don't like pizza!** (I love pizza, BTW.)

2. If Ramen has vinegar, that could be it, because I know it doesn't agree with me. I cannot eat anything with vinegar.

EDIT: I was really tired when I posted, but I realized something while replying to comments. Vinegar on pickles doesn't bother me one bit. But put it on/through a salad and ... ugh.

3. Reading the YGO manga, including seeing Yami Marik's antics there, has definitely made me more brave and bold; my two most recent multi-chapters both have a sub-category of Horror and include some very bizarre things (yet still, I think, capture the flavor of most of my fics with squeeable elements). Though the first of those was inspired less by the YGO manga and more by Get Smart. Go figure. And in the second, most of the horrifying things happened only in Yami Bakura's mind (saving Kul Elna, which of course really did happen, though not quite the way he's shown by Yami Marik in the fic).

4. I have extreme problems with rough and cracking skin on my left foot. However, I have just discovered that Vaseline may be the best cure for it. (And finding some padded shoes....) Even the very worst and deepest crack has been healing now.

5. I almost always prefer one-on-one RPing to group RPs, so for a group RP to capture my attention it has to be really unique from the norm. It would be almost impossible for me to describe what appeals to me in one, however, since some with similar elements won't always catch my fancy. (But being gen and not allowing random cracky stuff in the main RP certainly helps.)

6. I will most likely always be loyal to the Gateway brand, even if my next computer doesn't happen to be one. **hugs her faithful Gateway, which is 9-10 years old now.**

7. I thrill and squee whenever anyone does fanart or fanfics for one of my verses. And sometimes I fantasize about the possible fanbase that might spring up if/when I get my doppelganger novel done, and how I would react to it. XD; I imagine myself shaking my head in amusement and disbelief as I look through the fanart and fanfics and see the off-the-wall pairings they'll make.

(Actually, I've already had that experience somewhat. A couple of years ago, I was informed that someone had used the mad scientist Alice Portman in a private fic of hers, reformed her, and had her and Rishid hook up. .____. Um, no. But ... points for imagination?)

Since you have to tag ... hm.

Christmas

Dec. 31st, 2004 06:03 pm
ladybug_archive: (faye)
Well, it's a very quiet New Year's Eve so far, so I think I'll update now before everyone hops online.

Christmas was very good, but very strange. XD; As decided, I did not stay up to watch my shows. Everyone was up all night doing Christmas stuff and we finally went to bed really late, or early, depending on your outlook. XD; I thought that my brother and his wife would be coming by in the early afternoon with their baby, so I wanted to get some sleep before that happened. But as it turned out, Mom wasn't feeling well and she thought it'd be better for them not to come then and risk the baby getting sick. I wish I'd just stayed up and watched my shows anyway. XD; It wouldn't have made much difference. (I did re-watch the YGO episodes this afternoon, though, and greatly enjoyed doing so.)

We wound up not actually starting any kind of Christmas festivities until evening. XD; But everyone got cool stuff that they'd been wanting, and then we had a nice Christmas dinner and watched some episodes of an old TV show while I drew a picture, so everything turned out good.

This is what I got:

---My purty lil Alister icon from SK
---A pretty bird bookmark and a prayer rock (I think that's what it is ^^) from Lisa
---An Ishtar siblings bookmark from Birdee
---A soft purty homemade scarf from Debbie (the first Debbie I know. She's the new youth group leader and she made scarves for all of the girls!) And mine's purple. ^^ With blue and turquoise.

From Mom and Dad:

---Two anime DVD's: Rurouni Kenshin, Wandering Samurai volume 2, and Gundam W: Endless Waltz
---A movie called Love is Forever, with Michael Landon and Priscilla Presley. I think it's got a lot of suspense in it, because he's trying to help her get out of a Communist country or something.
---LOTR: Return of the King, Extended Edition! ^________^
---The Enya: Memory of Trees songbook for the piano
---Many CD's, including The Forgotten Carols, Trisha Yearwood's Christmas album, a Cherie Call album, and The Beatles 1 (I actually had that years ago, but I gave it to Larry one year for Christmas and I haven't ever gotten around to getting it again before now)
---A pretty purple towel
---The new Jennie Hansen mystery novel Abandoned
---Some boots for the winter

From one of my aunts:

---Twenty dollars, which I quickly spent on the CD Innovators by Kurt Bestor and Sam Cardon. It has The Prayer of the Children song on it! ^___^ That song reminds me of the bikers so much, as does the song Children of Eve.
---The book The Robe, which I've actually been wanting forever. XD; I adore the movie. My aunt is a mind-reader. I never mentioned anything about wanting the book to anyone, but she got it for me. ^___^

For all of us together, my aunt gave us a food steamer, two calenders (one that she made herself!), lovely framed pictures of Grandma and Grandpa, and King of Kings, which my mom was especially ecstatic about because that's her favorite movie version of Jesus's life. ^^ Yep, my aunt's a mind reader.

My brother and his wife came by the following day, when Mom was feeling better. They brought a picture of all of us that was taken at Halloween time, because he knows Mom adores pictures, and a $40 gift card for Wal-Mart. ^^ I bought a Sailor Moon SuperS DVD yesterday with my share of the gift card because I suddenly found myself craving to see some more of it and the libraries don't have any new DVD's in. XD; I picked the DVD with the Amazon Trio's last episodes, because as much as I try to convince myself that I don't like them, I still wanted to see what happened to them in the end (even though I already knew basically). And they really care about each other like the bikers do! ^____^! Man, it was so freakin cute. . . . ANYWAY . . .

On Monday I went with Dad to a Christmas party of my step-siblings'. I got a couple of presents there, some soft slipper socks and a camera. Oh, and a big Hershey's Symphony bar. ^^ And there was delicious food. My favorite was the big kettle of mashed potatoes. I filled up half my plate with those and poured the gravy over them. Then later I went back for a second helping. XD The gravy had coagulated by then, though, 'cause someone left it uncovered. But I still used it anyway.

It was a busy couple of weeks, all in all. XD; And on the 23rd Dad and I did the annual delivering of Christmas cards around the neighberhood. I actually like doing that. ^^ It gives me a chance to see all the Christmas lights and to walk through snow, if there is any. (There was, this time.) The next day we had to deliver a few more.

This past week, I think I've gone out somewhere just about every day, except today. We don't like going out on New Year's Eve, so I'm staying home to talk to whoever's on. XD;

And I finished another biker fic! This one is the one where Alister and Valon are held hostage and have to cooperate long enough to escape. XD; It's shorter than the other two biker-centric fics, but I'm pleased with it. I didn't use a song for this one, though I looked for a while. XD; I could never find one I wanted. But I used a line from the song He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother as the title. ^^

I think I picked up a sickness from Dad. He's been coughing and sniffling and now I'm coughing and I'm afraid I'm going to get a sore throat again. ><;;; I hate sore throats. . . .

Oh yeah. ^^ A final thought. Since the name "Alister" is Scottish, I'm going to say that Alister is of Scottish descent, but that he's never actually lived in Scotland. XD;

I found the Sonic Adventure 2 soundtrack. Circuit City still had that copy I've seen there a couple of times before! I also got a Gundam W DVD from Media Play. They're only charging $12.59 for most (if not all) the volumes right now. I got volume 2, because I have not seen any of the episodes on it.

And bananas are my friiiiends! **hugs a banana.** Zoe sent me a random facts thing once and it said that bananas help with cramping. **glomps Zoe!** I tried bananas over the weekend since it's my time of the month and I have not had cramping! ^_________^
