1. Which is your favorite fic? Lead Me Through the Fire, for Yu-Gi-Oh! Life After the Tears, also for YGO, would be a close second. They're both very dark and somewhat departures for me, Lead Me Through the Fire in particular.

2. Which is your best-received fic? If that means the number of reviews, it would be Frantic in Frisco, one of my old YGO mysteries. Last I knew, it had close to 300 reviews.

If it means simply the one with the most praising of comments, I couldn't say.

3. Which is your worst-received fic? Any fic that is ignored? I dunno. Oh, maybe Nose Job for Diagnosis Murder. I had so many people tell me they didn't get the punchline, even though it was so obvious. **sigh.** Also, Lady in Red for the same fandom. It was meant as a "day in the life" snapshot kind of thing, but people hated on it because they said it was boring.

4. Which is your angsty-est fic? Probably Lead Me Through the Fire. Also, that Carmen Sandiego fic where Sean is in a coma, Alive Beneath the Snow. Unfortunately, that one burned me out so bad that I haven't felt comfortable writing angst for that fandom since. Scott falling off the roof in real life hasn't helped, either.

5. Which is your funniest fic? **shrugs.** I think Adventures in Thief-Sitting, for YGO, was pretty amusing. And What Can Go Wrong, Will Go Wrong, for Final Fantasy VII. I'm planning a hilariously cracky fic for Princess Tutu using the prompt New Jersey Vegetable Monster.

6. Saddest? Lead Me Through the Fire. Disastrous, intense mystery, with Duke forced to pretend he is dead and come back as a harsh, cold person, interacting with Yugi-tachi under that persona while they believe Duke is dead. Also, there was eventually a real character death.

Some of my FF7 fics that focus on Nibelheim and Sephiroth's madness would qualify too.

7. Fluffiest? Probably those Zack/Aerith squeefics. I don't often write out-and-out fluff, but they lend themselves to it so well. XD;

8. Have you ever made someone cry with your fic? Oh yes, on lots of fics.

9. Which fanfic frustrates you the most? Any fanfic I'm having trouble getting written. Think Back on Yesterday, for Princess Tutu, has been causing me grief. But I actually have chapter 7 almost done, so it is no longer the fic frustrating me the most.

Maybe The Diamond Rose Glass, for FF7. I'm so close to finishing it, but I can't quite grasp how I want the climax to go and I'm mad at myself for revealing something in chapter 12 that should have been saved for the next chapter.

10. Which fic was the most fun to write? Oh gosh. Hmm. I really couldn't pick just one. Close Your Eyes, Clear Your Heart, for YGO, is a lot of fun. There's a mystery going on that ties in heavily with Lead Me Through the Fire, one that I'm anxious to reveal. I think there'll be some surprises.

The Diamond Rose Glass, despite my frustrations with it, was a ton of fun. I remember enjoying the descriptions of the bookstore and of Vincent's undercover work especially.

I also really enjoy my Princess Tutu ventures, particularly anything involving Autor and Fakir or Autor and Ahiru friendship. I really enjoyed writing Love is Not a Victory March, for the latter friendship, and the Phantom Hitchhiker trilogy, which more closely followed Autor and Fakir's friendship.

11. Which of the OCs you created is your favorite? Alexander. He inspired an entire race and culture, and hopefully someday, that novel will actually happen. He's like a kid, both with their innocence and their insight, and then occasionally he'll prove he's not as mild as he seems. If he gets blasting you, you're in trouble.

12. Are you better at oneshot or multipart? I think I'm equally good at both.

13. Which character portrayal do you think is your best? I'm particularly fond of my Siegfried von Schroider. He is an obnoxious, snarky jackass, but he's not a villain. He's very conflicted when it comes to his parents, as I've happily explored in detail in the few fics I've written for him.

I also am quite fond of my Autor. Everyone envisions him a bit differently, but I and some others see him as an innocent boy who doesn't really understand the seriousness of what's going on around him. I've matured his character and had him realize what a burden power can really be. He's also quite snarky, but insecure deep down, and he can become excited and enthusiastic over subjects he loves. He's new to having real friendships, but is trying his best with Fakir and Ahiru. He and Fakir mostly snark and banter at each other, or be awkward, while he's more open with Ahiru. He is coming to open up around Fakir as well, though.

A minor character in canon, to be sure, but I adore writing for Duke's store manager. His few lines in canon are intriguing, particularly how he notes Duke may have gotten in over his head. Duke seems to have confided in him, which is an intriguing angle. I like fleshing him out, especially portraying him as just an average guy who really doesn't want to get anywhere near danger and is afraid when he encounters something like a knife to the throat, but he doesn't run and is determined to see things through.

I also really like my portrayal of Duke and how I use mainly the manga backstory and personality for him, while adding the best of his anime counterpart. Duke is hence serious, cynical, and laden with facades.

14. What character is the most difficult to portray? I dunno. I also have trouble with Barry from Carmen Sandiego. I was really worried about my Rue, but I think I've managed to write her well after all. Though she isn't someone I'll be writing a lot for.

I forgot to copy over more than the questions I was given, but you guys have done a million of these, right? If you want five questions, say so, I give them, and you post in your journals.

Interview by [livejournal.com profile] rose_of_pollux:

1) KH Zack, Cloud, and Seph vs FFVII Zack, Cloud, and Seph-- which verse is your favorite to write for and why? You know, I've debated this question with myself a lot. As I recall from when I mused on it in past entries, KH is fun because less is known and you can make up more, but FF7 is fun because it's the original and so much *is* established already to work with. I think I tentatively concluded I preferred KH, but I think now I prefer FF7. Kaze's story could be an influence on that decision, as well as the role-plays I've done, but in any case I really love the darkness of FF7 and all the various established angles. With the Compilation, there's so much to work with. Of course, KH is pretty dark too, but there's not a lot of information on their versions of the characters.
2) How did you get into Princess Tutu? I saw the DVDs at Media Play (yes, it was still Media Play then) and was somewhat intrigued, but the concept of the Prince losing his heart scared me away. Later, Stacey and Elora both got into the show and showed me the infamous Hall Om Mig AMV. I watched, was immediately hooked, and ordered the first DVD from the library. I loved it so much, I couldn't wait for any more to arrive. I watched the entire rest of both seasons on YouTube over two evenings. I've been a fan since then and have been in the comm, but I never really felt confident in the fanworks part of the fandom until I could finally get the DVDs and watch and rewatch to my heart's content. I don't often connect with characters well enough to write for them, so discovering I actually could with the Tutu characters was a big thrill.
3) Your favorite characters in YGO have changed throughout the years-- but which one will forever hold the #1 spot and why? Honestly, I don't think anyone does. XD; My #1 spot changes with the favorite characters. For a long time I tried to insist Yugi was my #1, but I finally conceded that Seto had beaten him. But then Marik beat Seto, and there was Alister, and Siegfried. I dunno, I'm back and forth on Seto, but I really don't like him as much as I used to. He drives me crazy in Battle City. The coliseum thing really made me headdesk. But of course Seto has awesome moments all along too, mostly in the anime-only arcs and in R. He was really good in Duelist Kingdom too, though. At the moment, I'd tentatively say Duke is my favorite, but he doesn't hold the #1 spot overall. I dunno, I guess if it wasn't for Battle City, Seto really could be my #1, and heck, maybe deep down he really still is.
4) Which of your OCs is your favorite to write for? Alexander. He's positively adorable. A child in a man's body, he's both innocent and introspective. I really would like to get my novel done; there'd be so much about him that would get fleshed out.
5) What is your favorite episode(s)/moment(s) of WITWICS? The Boll Weevil Retrieval is my favorite episode. Kneemoi is AWESOME and then there's the crazy anvil nonsense. But my favorite moment is Zombie Jamboree in The Costume Caper.

A. List seven habits/quirks/facts about yourself.
B. Tag seven people to do the same.
C. Do not tag the person who tagged you or say that you tag "whoever wants to do it."

1. I cannot STAND Ramen noodles or anything similar (such as soups that seem to have such noodles in them), and I honestly wonder why people think they're so great. Every time except one when I've eaten them, I've gotten very sick (like, fluish symptoms, nausea, and I think sometimes I've ended up right down in bed). And the time that didn't happen, it felt like it would. I would honestly like to know what it is in them that I have such a bad reaction to. And out of curiosity, is there anyone on the friends list who doesn't like them, either? **doubts it; saying you don't like them seems to be akin to saying you don't like pizza!** (I love pizza, BTW.)

2. If Ramen has vinegar, that could be it, because I know it doesn't agree with me. I cannot eat anything with vinegar.

EDIT: I was really tired when I posted, but I realized something while replying to comments. Vinegar on pickles doesn't bother me one bit. But put it on/through a salad and ... ugh.

3. Reading the YGO manga, including seeing Yami Marik's antics there, has definitely made me more brave and bold; my two most recent multi-chapters both have a sub-category of Horror and include some very bizarre things (yet still, I think, capture the flavor of most of my fics with squeeable elements). Though the first of those was inspired less by the YGO manga and more by Get Smart. Go figure. And in the second, most of the horrifying things happened only in Yami Bakura's mind (saving Kul Elna, which of course really did happen, though not quite the way he's shown by Yami Marik in the fic).

4. I have extreme problems with rough and cracking skin on my left foot. However, I have just discovered that Vaseline may be the best cure for it. (And finding some padded shoes....) Even the very worst and deepest crack has been healing now.

5. I almost always prefer one-on-one RPing to group RPs, so for a group RP to capture my attention it has to be really unique from the norm. It would be almost impossible for me to describe what appeals to me in one, however, since some with similar elements won't always catch my fancy. (But being gen and not allowing random cracky stuff in the main RP certainly helps.)

6. I will most likely always be loyal to the Gateway brand, even if my next computer doesn't happen to be one. **hugs her faithful Gateway, which is 9-10 years old now.**

7. I thrill and squee whenever anyone does fanart or fanfics for one of my verses. And sometimes I fantasize about the possible fanbase that might spring up if/when I get my doppelganger novel done, and how I would react to it. XD; I imagine myself shaking my head in amusement and disbelief as I look through the fanart and fanfics and see the off-the-wall pairings they'll make.

(Actually, I've already had that experience somewhat. A couple of years ago, I was informed that someone had used the mad scientist Alice Portman in a private fic of hers, reformed her, and had her and Rishid hook up. .____. Um, no. But ... points for imagination?)

Since you have to tag ... hm.

... Man, I'm drained. XD; Usually after writing a big fic I'm wiped out and exhausted, but not emotionally drained. And this wasn't even the big fic I wrote recently. LOL. But I'm drained all the same. Sad fic is sad. ;___; Sometimes even a happy ending doesn't make me not be drained, though of course I'm sure it'd be more pronounced if I wrote a sad ending.

And I just wasn't satisfied with my posted fic. XD; I wanted badly to add more. So ... I did. I expanded both chapter 4 and the epilogue, and I still wonder if it needs more emotional detail all the way along. I try to say without saying when possible, but there are times when it needs to be said.

Anyway ... so right now I don't feel like working on the Bryce Canyon fic, which features more Sean h/c. Annnd I don't feel like working on the collapsed building fic, with Scott trying to keep El awake when El has a concussion. And I don't feel like working on the Engel overhaul either. XD; The next scene is to be Tristan visiting Duke's grave.

(And I don't really want to write humor right now, either. XD; I can write it when I feel like it, but I don't feel it. Maybe I need to just write something squee.)

The only thing I really want to write at the moment is my Smooth Criminal fic, but I hit a snag with it too. -____-; I wanted to open with a scene showing the crime, so I start off introducing the readers to Annie. But AURGH! **pulls on hair.** There's a reason why I can rarely stand to work with OCs, and it's because if they try to carry a scene, it comes off sounding so stupid and cheesy. I don't like the scene and I don't like Annie's grandmother's story about the Prohibition era. Maybe if I tweak it around I'll like it better. I don't know. Gah, why are OCs so difficult for me?

(Yes, this is one reason why I have a short attention span for my original works. I absolutely am not satisfied with any of the openings I tried to do for my doppelganger novel. The first needed more background information on the characters. The second was so freaking cheesy, showing backstory for my businessman but also throwing in stuff about him having to grow up at an early age/put away the fantasy novels he loved/etc. It was setting things up for Alexander's entrance, but it just wasn't executed right, even though it sounds okay as I describe it here. I don't really want to write the plot of logical businessman is thrust into a fantasy world that he believed in as a child, but stopped believing in later. It's not my forté. At all. I'd rather just write the plot of logical businessman is thrust into a fantasy world, whether or not he ever believed in it. And it seems like there was a third opening, somewhere....

For my other novel, I'm not having a problem with the characters, for once; it's more a matter of doing research/focusing long enough to get scenes done. I keep being distracted by other things I want to write more. XD But I am quite enamored by this project.

I still love my doppelganger project too; I just wish I could get it working. I really feel that I need to write this first scene first to show the meeting of the businessman and Alexander. From there, I can write scenes in any order I please.)

http://www.side7.com/cgi-bin/S7SDB/Display.pl?act=image&iid=327852 Color version of the Zack/Aerith pic!

I got chapter 5 of To Bring You Back done. ^^ I started it yesterday morning and it went pretty fast. I'm pretty satisfied with it, overall. I hope Iezon is IC....

Now, if I can finally get to chapter 9 of I Don't Feel Enough for You to Cry.... XD; I was going into a giggle fit earlier, thinking of a silly blurb involving spoiled food in the fridge (and no, it would not be a repeat of my Living in the Fridge fic). And while singing God Help the Outcasts, as I tend to do while taking care of the laundry, I started thinking again about that scene of Sybil in the church. I wanna write that. X3

I was also thinking of unofficially experimenting with 1Sentence again, and this time seeing if I could adapt the sentences to something non-romantic. Those little exercises really are good for plunnies. Like I need more, right? XD;

And oh yeah, can someone please explain to me what the Trigun One-Winged Angel song is? **heard it a while back and still has the song; was listening to it again.** I mean, was it actually played on the show Trigun, or what? XD;

I finally got this sketch done, Lisa: http://www.side7.com/cgi-bin/S7SDB/Display.pl?act=image&iid=327837

I also have the sketches of Lydia, and Doppelgangers #1 and #2. XD But that I won't put up publicly. I'll send it through IM or email to whoever wants to see.

I need to think of names for the doppelganger business people! I keep picturing Dora or Claire for the girl, but names for the guy aren't presenting themselves at all. Though I keep wanting something that starts with "Y."

Here is a short S&M blurb of a conversation between Zack and Cloud on the night before the statue crisis.

I got bit by a Kingdom Hearts plunnie yesterday morning and watched all of the cutscenes from Hollow Bastion, to make sure my idea wasn't implausible/OOC. I decided I was okay on it. XD Though I think I've confused myself with it.... And it's bloody too! Got that idea after watching this person's Jedi Academy game with Cloud and Sephiroth skins. I was surprised by all the blood that spilled in that game. XD

Still working on the oneshot with Gin, Sherry, and Sherry's confessions about existing as Ai Haibara. I was thinking I'd post it and the KH blurb at the same time, but we'll see.

And I did a great RP with Aubrie where poor Eostre got controlled by the people who'd experimented on her and attacked Gin-tachi. It was nicely intense. X3 Now the poor things have fallen asleep behind the couch, too weary and hurt to get up from there, and Eostre is in the hospital with Baltasar watching over her.

I've discovered that the Vincent figure seems to be the hardest one to find. XD And finding one at a decent price is nearly impossible. I've found a good deal on the Sephiroth one, which I'm considering buying. And Lisa found out that there will definitely be a second line of figures! X3 Kadaj will be included, but we don't know who else yet.

Yay!

I've never done this before, but now I must. X3 It's a biker tribute using We Are. I never realized how well that song fits them during the Doom Arc!

Gotta get off in a minute and get some sleep. XD We're going to a funeral today, up in the area we moved from, and we've gotta do a lot of stuff while we're there. I really hope we won't be gone too long into the evening.

On Sunday I begin teaching music to the children at church. Hopefully they will like me. XD; The previous person was in at least five years, and she's very extroverted. Last week I went to see how things were done, and I really liked her after just seeing her teach then, so I can imagine how the kids would get attached after five years.

I finally got the next chapter of Snow White Queen done! I think it came out quite well. ^^ And I already have some of the next chapter planned out.

And here's a blurb that would not go away, as usual. XD It takes place in a timeline within a timeline. ^^ It's in the Good Enough For You timeline, and from there has branched into what I call the Apollo's Reign timeline. He's never mentioned by name, on purpose, to protect his usage in my original story, but it's him, and he's put the whole world under military rule. And he's got some real morons working for him. I was making fun of odd rules that he might enforce, so ... yeah.

This is an idea I've had for a while. It's an unpolished, unfinished blurb, and while I wrote it, I got more plot bunnies. XD I can imagine Sherry and Vodka had a lot of time to bond during their experiences....

Apollo's World )
ladybug_archive: (Default)
I can't get the idea of these two conversing out of my head. XD It's so amusing and cute at the same time. They're like two sides of the same coin, in some ways. Alexander is more childlike (positive) and Kadaj is childish (negative). Hence, the following conversation insisted on coming out, which looks like it's the latter half. I need to figure out how they actually met in the first place.

This is mostly dialogue, as it's an experiment in writing for Kadaj. **nod.** And it takes place using random and vague possible ideas from the story I want to write which is how come Kadaj is on Earth to talk to Alexander in the first place.

Two Sides of the Same Coin )

Yay! XD

I finished the next chapter of Breakdown. And I've decided to title the chapters after various lyrics from the song. What I just posted is "Let the Fun and Games Begin." I really like how the chapter came out, especially the last scene. I think it's nicely intense and quite poignant.

I also finally figured out how to phrase what I wanted in that Black Org essay I was writing a while back. XD I had started to try to explain my thoughts on Gin's and Vodka's relationship, and I suddenly got tongue-tied (or finger-tied, or whatever), and shelved the essay for the time being. For some reason, reading over the scanlation of the train bomb scene where their codenames are revealed helped me figure out how to say what I wanted. I posted the first draft at Black Org HQ.

I did an RP with Lizzie that I want to write a random blurb on later. For some reason, I'm on a real brainwashing/poisoning/drugging kick right now. To practice for Getting Away with Murder's future scene, I had Gin flip out due to some drug (even though it's Vodka who will do so in the story). Lizzie's playing Vodka and I wasn't sure if she would be up to playing him go nuts. XD; Anyway, though, after she showed me her RP with Wrath going psycho, it made me want to throw Gin into a similar situation with Ayumi.

The most intense stuff came once Vodka got Gin back to the base, however. Gin had been shooting himself in the arm to stay focused, but it wasn't working well and he was losing blood and the drug was taking over his sanity. Eventually he held the gun to his throat and was apparently going to kill himself. Vodka panicked and tried to stop him, and they ended up struggling over the gun. Gin finally abandoned that and tried to smother Vodka with a pillow. Vodka, being physically stronger, overpowered Gin and was able to shove him away, but Gin slammed into the wall (probably more like the metal locker) and hit his head hard. The shock of that caused the poison to make his heart stop (one thing I like about fictional poisons is that you can make them do pretty much whatever you want). We didn't get to delve a whole lot into Vodka's shock over the whole situation, but he did show that he was stunned. I loved it. XD And of course, they got Gin back.

In the RP with Aubrie, I've started experimenting with the Ayumi angle. ^^ Gin saved her from Ushio. Then I'll have her turn up later, of course. And Tazi's ending up making friends with Kaito. XD And Alchflaed got drunk and kissed her boss and sat on his lap. **snerk.**

Alchflaed's relationship with her boss really is fascinating. And he's fun to write for. He's mysterious and keeps to the shadows, like Giovanni on Pokémon. I always imagine the guy talking like Giovanni, too, so he has Yami B's voice. XD And I don't even want to give him a name anymore. I think it's more fun not to know. Aubrie started calling him "The Big Man" and it's stuck. XD

Randomly sketched Baltasar yesterday. XD

Baltasar )

And I drew Gin and Vodka from that one-shot I've been writing (and just finished, actually! Oh I hope I got them in character.... I tried! Reviews are much appreciated. **bows.**), from the part where Gin staggers back into the room after being supposedly dead. XD http://www.side7.com/cgi-bin/S7SDB/Display.pl?act=image&iid=324412 Gin ended up coming out in my own style, but I think he's recognizable. ^^;

I think I really creeped DSM out on Saturday when I was trying to explain how the twisted Gin/Sherry pairing works. XD But that's okay. I like its twistedness, but it's not for everyone.

This took a long time to sort out. XD But I think I've finally figured it out, for the most part. ^^

All About Songs! )

I've just created Siegfried's doppelganger. XD He's into grunge/punk, and he likes black roses. But he's a nice guy, and surprisingly, he seems to have hit it off with Tazi's hyper and preppy doppelganger Eostre. XD LOL. His name is Baltasar. It just sounded cool and seemed to fit.

I have so many drawing projects for the weekend now. XD I hope I can get at least some of them done!

Scanned in some random stuff ... a half-finished pic of Branwyn Glyn, and two DC-related fanarts. Tried to draw Abracham last week, but it was awful, and I haven't had the heart to try again yet. XD;

The Arts )

On Saturday night I took lots of pictures from YouTube of the classic Detective Conan mailroom scene. XD Deprived of sleep, I started getting giggly and coming up with crack icon ideas. This morning I have made them. There's a few serious ones in there, but most are earlier and not from this batch. http://community.livejournal.com/conan_icons/64217.html?#cutid1 The one I'm using for this entry is probably my fave out of the batch. Though I also really like the ones involving the cigarette scene (which I can just imagine yaoi fangirls taking out of context). XD

My Ghosts fic is getting lots of positive reviews! I'm so happy with it. I'm working on chapter four now.

I don't think I'll be online until latenight today.... State holiday, commemorating when the pioneers first arrived here. I'm hoping to go to Borders and get some DC manga. X3 I also wish I could go see the local production of Beauty & the Beast (which I assume is the stage version of the Disney musical), but that probably won't happen. XD; It costs $8 per person to get in, and I'd be lucky to have money for a manga. **laughs.**

I love my doppelganger priest Abracham Maponus. X3 He's kind of a Hakkai-ish character, with a bit of Bakura thrown in. And he has such great chemistry with Aubrie's Alchflaed, who is Yaminah's doppelganger. It's just perfect.

Alchflaed is definitely one of the most fascinating OCs Aubrie has created. ^^ She's on my mental list of my most favorite OCs, as well as Yaminah. I'm really proud of Aubrie for the way she has had Yaminah grow and develop. She's a superb character now, and I think that if she hadn't developed this much, we might not be seeing someone like Alchflaed. XD

Now I have been writing a rather depressing blurb. XD; I couldn't help myself. The scenario kept playing out in my mind, and it had to be written down. I don't know whether this is for sure done yet or not. I was considering having a flashback or two. Here's how it is right now.

Mexican Stand-Off )
ladybug_archive: (homura)
What makes a strong female character? Well, people obviously disagree, but I was extremely spooked one time when someone somewhere made the comment that Buena Girl from Mucha Lucha is one such character, and a good role model. I can't stand that show, it's so freakin' crude, but I did try it a few times, sometimes out of boredom while waiting for YGO. Anyway, I really don't find any of the main characters likable, and I don't think Buena Girl is a good role model at all. XD; She's so self-righteous all the time, looking down on anyone who doesn't feel as strongly about masked wrestling as she does. And if I remember right, she's one of those characters who physically attacks other people over small and stupid things when she's upset. I have never found that appealing in a character, male or female. It's why I have such a low opinion of Kaoru from Rurouni Kenshin, and of Amy Rose from Sonic X. Do people think that to be a strong character, a woman has to beat up male characters even when they don't deserve it? I think it's pathetic. It's one thing to be a good fighter, triumphing over people who obviously mean you harm, but it's quite another to go berserk when someone doesn't mean to do anything wrong.

Actually, that's not the only reason I dislike Amy, but it is a big one. XD; Another reason is because of her incessant swooning over Sonic. She's like a scary fangirl! And I'll never forget the time she tried to "rescue" him, but she wouldn't untie him and instead she dragged him up some stairs, causing him to hit his head on each one! .___. Pathetic, pathetic.... I know it was all played for laughs, it always is, but possessive idiots like Amy just scare and annoy me to no end. If I ever met someone like her in real life (and I have met some online), I'd want to get as far away from her as possible.

Anyway, back on topic. What makes a strong female character? They have to face their problems, they have to stand up for themselves, they have to stick to their beliefs, they have to recognize that they're not the greatest thing in the universe. . . . They can do all of that without resorting to losing their sanity just because someone innocently and inadventantly made a comment that they didn't like. For Heaven's sake, grow up! Reacting the way Kaoru and Amy tend to do is not only annoying and unnecessary, it's immature. And it makes me not have much (if any) respect for them. I honestly don't find it funny at all. XD; I keep thinking of the poor guys who aren't meaning to say anything wrong and then they're suddenly clobbered.

On another, less controversial subject, I'm bringing back one of my minor doppelganger characters: Aballach's secretary. Right now I'm trying to give her a Welsh name. I had selected Blodwyn (which means "white flower") and then I also wanted Glyn ("from the glen"), but in my head I keep calling her Bronwen, and I really don't want to name her that because it means "fair-breasted". .___.; Then there's Branwyn, which means "beautiful raven" (and that makes me think of Rue from Princess Tutu XD), but I don't want to name her that because I picture her with long and flowing white hair, like Kisara. Ravens, of course, are black. Of course, I guess her name could be Branwyn anyway, and Blodwyn is some sort of alias. XD

I've seen the first four episodes of Detective Conan, BTW, and I like it! I'm not too keen on the whole body-shrinking thing, but eh, since it only happened to him and a girl, and since it's science-related and has nothing to do with magic, I'll overlook it. XD (Well, not that I wouldn't overlook it if it was magic-related, but I'd probably frown on it even more, at any rate.) It's really nice to have an anime that doesn't have any magic, for a change. And the mysteries aren't kiddie stuff, either. Some of them are DARK! I mean, check out episode 3, with the music idol and the guy who was apparently murdered in her room. This is a very mature show, really. I think I'm going to be nuts about it. XD

I'd actually kinda prefer it if the Junior Detectives weren't around. ^^; Maybe they'll grow on me, but right now they seem like unnecessary baggage meant to lighten the show up. And I feel that Ran's father already lightens it up fine. XD More than that seems like overkill. Those kids don't really know what they're doing, and Conan ends up having to look out for all of them! It gets in the way of the mystery.

I'm anxious to see the new Superman movie. XD I read a couple of articles on it when I was at Borders and it seems like it'll be cool! I prefer Batman over Superman, really, since Batman has to catch crooks using his technology and his brains, as opposed to superpowers, but eh. XD I liked the first Superman movie, from the seventies, and wow, I think the new guy really looks a lot like Christopher Reeve's version!

I don't know why it is, but lately, for some reason, I've been even more opposed to magic powers than usual. It just doesn't impress me a whole lot, and I'm afraid it's probably starting to come out in the RPs I do. XD; (Baby Face, for instance, is getting highly frustrated at the thought of having to rely on people with magic powers to stop the doppelganger Mafia. Though, I do honestly think that's how he'd feel about it.) Lots of people go out of their way giving characters the most amazing and impossible powers there could be, but I'm more impressed if someone can solve a problem without needing to rely on magic. I liked this one episode of Winx Club that's on the tape Aubrie made for me, where they're in a realm without magic and they have to figure out how to get out of a life-or-death situation by using their smarts and skills alone. And I know I do have characters that use magic (Runihura, for instance), but on the other hand, while the doppelgangers have knowledge of magic, they don't use it too much. XD Well, some don't, anyway. **thinks of Apollo and his spells.** I've found that when I have a character who does use magic, if their name isn't Runihura, the extent of magic they will probably be able to do is simply to blast people.

... Maybe one reason why I don't care for magic too much is that sometimes it seems like if a character can use it, that's all they'll ever use to solve a problem and they'll never develop any other skills they might have. XD I'm glad that Yaminah has other fighting skills, such as using a sword.

Speaking of the tape Aubrie made for me, I found the episode that got cut off before the end because of the tape running out, and it looks like it's a Sonic X Valentine's episode where Amy is going nuts again trying to get Sonic to be hers, so I don't think I'll mind that it got cut off. LOL.

I also don't know why it is that I'm feeling so opinionated today. XD But eh.

I'm just curious: for people who know about any of the characters whom I do essays on, do you think my essays come off logically and provide satisfying arguments, or do you think that I randomly decide things because I want them to be that way? XD It's true that I write essays expressing strong opinions that I dig up on the characters, but I hope that I back up my opinions with plenty of information from the book/movie/TV show/whatever it is.

I'm just musing over things because someone in The Bowery expressed the basic opinion that Duke chasing Sach with weapons is just slapstick comedy and that for whatever reason, they just didn't have him use the weapons, like the Three Stooges probably would have. XD I agree that it was played for comedy, but nobody does anything without a reason. Duke would have to have a reason for not using the weapons, and I believe that my view on why is consistant with information taken from the films. The idea that we don't need to think about the reason just because it's a comedy doesn't sit well with me. XD When I write about character relations, I have to have reasons for everything that they say and do.

After Elora showed me that excellent Princess Tutu AMV, I got intrigued and wanted to watch the show more than ever, so I got the first DVD from the library, watched it, and have digested about eight more episodes from YouTube the previous evening. XD Now I've seen all 13 episodes of the first season. 13 more to go.

I'm really surprised at how great it is. At first glance, it seems like a normal magical girl show. But it is quickly discovered that it is not. It's much better. The characters are extremely deep, and black and white blur into gray for both the good guys and the bad guys. The soundtrack is mostly classical music, and there's a lot of fairy tale and ballet influences. I bet Leonhard would love it. XD Fakir is definitely one of the best and most complex characters, but Rue is terribly intriguing too, and Mytho reminds me so much of Bakura. Drosselmeyer intrigues me in some way, too. And Ahiru is just cute.

I meant to watch some Tsubasa Chronicle episodes, but each episode of Princess Tutu seemed to relate to the main story (there weren't a lot of fillers at all) and each would end on a cliffhanger, so then I'd have to go on. XD;

I also finally watched The Phantom of the Opera. I saw it at Target on Saturday and bought it on a whim (along with an embroidered YGO baseball cap). It's an absolutely excellent film, and the acting and singing is wonderful. I do wish that they hadn't cut out the final verse of the title track, though, and of course I found the guy mooning Carlotta to be a stupid and unnecessary addition. I don't even think anyone could have gotten away with that during the time period in which the movie takes place.

Also ordered with the Princess Tutu DVD was the ninth volume of Twelve Kingdoms. It was excellent, as they've all been, and I really enjoyed the ideas expressed in episode #39. #40 was a filler sort of thing, but it was enjoyable and I'm looking forward to seeing the last DVD, even though it doesn't really have a connection with the main plot. I hope that it will continue the little story that was going on in #40.

On Monday I went to Wal-Mart to help with the groceries, and luckily, I didn't have to wander around for over an hour looking for Dad this time. (I swear, last week I was so frustrated that I was ready to write a Bowery Boys one-shot in which that happens to Sach and Duke and Duke is screaming at Sach after they finally find each other in the store, and Sach hadn't even heard the page because he'd been daydreaming. XD; But I calmed down and didn't write it.) Anyway, I bought this cool M*A*S*H shirt I'd seen there last week, green with the logo. It was available in black, too, but somehow I thought green looked more appropriate. I also got one of those newsboy type hats, which I got especially interested in because Whitey has one in the Bowery Boys films he's in. XD Then I found a big black floppy hat that reminds me of spies and such. If I had a trenchcoat to go with it, that would be perfect. And if they'd had one in red, I might still try to make a go of that Alucard costume.

After a hiatus from the doppelgangers while doing the mobster storyline in the RP with Aubrie, I'm finally developing a new angle for my doppelgangers. XD Now there's a Doppelganger Mafia. I don't quite know how that came to me, but it just seemed a natural direction for things to go in since their dimension is parallel to ours and has a lot of the same things. Aubrie's coming up with Yaminah's doppelganger, and it'll be so amusing when they meet. She's very dark, and smart, and among the high-ranking members. She also smokes cigars. LOL. Now I need to come up with a doppelganger mobster so that we can get things really rolling with this angle.

I finally drew a picture of my OC Sybil. XD; I hope I didn't give her long hair in an RP I did a while back, but if I did, it'll have to change, because I can only picture her with short hair now.

And here's that thing I've been writing on Duke, at least this is it until I decide what else to put. XD

Name: Stanislaus "Duke" Coveleskie

Age: Unknown; perhaps in his mid to late twenties

Memorable Quotes: "I'd like to bawl you out, but I haven't got the time!" --- Hot Shots

"You get those carpets cleaned or I'll cut your ears off! And that's no bull!" --- Hold That Hypnotist (Yeah, I was surprised to hear him say that in a movie from the fifties. XD; Another time I'm almost positive he said "Oh my God!" after accidentally punching Sach....)

"The next time I wanna listen to an idiot, I'll listen to myself!" --- Hold That Hypnotist

"Just remember, this man is here for a rest cure. If you don't cut it out, I'll be here for a rest cure!" --- Spook Chasers

"... ROCKHEAD!" --- Looking for Danger

"I know I promised to share everything with you, but I draw the line at the chopping block!" --- Looking for Danger

Clicking them takes you to the full-size versions, and the descriptions I wrote up. First we have this attempt at anime Monkees. XD I'm quite pleased with it, and I think everyone is recognizable.

OC Art )

And I finished the story! **pets it.** I'm really pleased with how it came out. All of it's floating around online somewhere now except for the final segment. There's five segments altogether. Then of course I have my idea for the next story, and it's called Will the Real Baby Face Please Stand Up? Go ahead and take a guess what it's about. If I already told you, that doesn't count. XD;

Plus, about half a dozen people in a Monkees fanfic group I'm in have expressed interest in me writing a story telling about how Tony and Baby Face met up in the first place. I can't help it, those characters really intrigue me, and especially Tony. I would like to know if he was always a crooked cop, or if he started out trying to uphold the law and then something happened that set him down a wrong path, and I would like to know how he ever made Baby Face's acquaintance. Was he the cop originally assigned to capture him? I have a lot of ideas for the story floating around in my mind, and knowing that I'm not the only one interested in the subject encourages me to write it.

On another note, I found out that Roy Stuart, my favorite actor from the old show Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C. died this past Christmas. @__@ (And I keep typing Ryou every time I try to say Roy!) Roy played Corporal Charles Boyle, an absolutely awesome character. Man, I had no idea he was dead.

The way I found out was quite bizarre and off-the-wall, and it all connects with The Monkees. XD; I already mentioned I'm intrigued by Tony. I think some of the expressions he got during the Alias Micky Dolenz episode were so very priceless, and that the scene with Micky in the backroom would have been a lot less funny without Tony's reactions. So, as might be expected, I wanted to know what else the actor had been in. Well, the actor, Jimmy Murphy, is a character actor who mostly appeared in random episodes of old TV shows. (He also appeared in four or five Bowery Boys movies in the fifties. I had no idea the Bowery Boys even existed until two nights ago.) Anyway, so he was in an episode of Gomer Pyle's show. And of course, since I have all the episodes recorded, I wanted to know where that episode fit in so I could go watch it.

Well, a long time ago I compiled an episode guide for the show, and sorted everything into order. I don't think there's another Gomer episode guide anywhere on the web that has both titles and descriptions. But I forgot the URL of my own website. XD; So I Googled it and ended up on Wikipedia.com, and from there I learned that Roy Stuart had died. o.o;

Incidentally, I did find my website (Angelfire was stupidly case-sensitive!), and the episode guide. It was the episode right before my favorite Gomer episode, Gomer the Welsh Rarebit Fiend. And I happened to know where that tape was, so I got it out, hooked up the VCR, and watched it. Jimmy Murphy played a guy on the street who whistled at Lou-Ann Poovie when Gomer, Sergeant Carter, and Duke were all walking her home and going through a bad neighborhood. What resulted was a hilarious scene where Carter tried to be all macho and bawl the guy out, Duke wanted to handle it, and Gomer said it had all been a misunderstanding.

By the way, another irony is that right after that taped episode, I found the second half of the Screen Gems Network version of Monkees in a Ghost Town. I'd completely forgotten that I'd put that episode on two tapes!

Lizzie showed me a little character analysis that she's been working on for her novel. She said it's mostly for her, and it gave me the idea of making similar things for my doppelgangers. I've already done that essay for Alexander, so right now my analysises are on some of the others.

Apollo, Daniel, Veleda )

I've also decided that doppelgangers are actually quite old, even though they look young. Veleda, for instance, was acquainted with Sigurd of Scandinavian legend. He promised to help her people if the Council ever got the upper hand, and now that they have, she is hoping that he will make good on his promise. And, since Veleda and Apollo are siblings, I've also decided that doppelgangers can have biological families. Originally I was thinking that they would be born from the hearts of their charges, but now I've been changing some things around. Now doppelgangers watch over ancestors and descendants of their charges as well, provided that they resemble the charge.

You know, I decided to try Lauri Carrigan's album again and this time I liked it. ^^ I wonder if the problem before was simply that I was looking for a second Cherie Call, even though I told myself I wasn't. The songs don't seem so cheesy now, and the arrangements don't bother me as much.

And I have new ideas for Candy Clouds. ^^ I'm still trying to sort it all out, but now I have a better idea of how the ending will go and what the disaster will be. I'm also considering moving Starfire to Purple Skies. I'm not sure that it will fit in Candy Clouds.

I also did a bit more research on doppelgangers, but I came to the conclusion that I really can run with my ideas and not worry about conforming to anything. There doesn't seem to be too much information on this bizarre phenomena, and so I think I can bring in my concepts of a winged race of doppelgangers without any trouble. Look at how Tolkien changed ideas about the Elf race! (Though I'm certainly not claiming to be the next Tolkien. . . .)

Actually, doppelgangers are rather creepy. XD; It was telling how they're often seen shortly before the people's deaths. I certainly don't believe that they really exist, unless they're evil spirits taking on those forms to bring confusion and mayhem. But I like my idea of a race of the creatures that are both good and bad. The good ones are more like guardian angels, while the bad ones are like the doppelgangers that you hear about.

I'm more interested in developing that world of doppelgangers rather than writing a story about Alexander as an angel of death, I think. For one thing, keeping the doppelganger angle means that I don't have to worry about working in religion/my religious beliefs. I'm rather touchy when it comes to writing stuff directly religious, because I don't really want to write stuff that I don't believe in (such as angels of death; I believe that people are met at death's door by relatives who have died at some earlier point in time). It seems different to use supernatural concepts if you're not trying to write something directly religious.

I drew a picture of a new character over the weekend. Only Aubrie and Lisa know about him right now, and I'm quite pleased with him. He's another doppelganger, an assassin named Daniel. (When looking for characters' names, I go to the name sites, go through the lists, and invariably, the right name will jump out at me.) Daniel is not a bad person; on the contrary, he was sent by the ruler of the race, Alger, to kill the wicked doppelganger council, who are trying to set up a New World Order of Doppelgangers. They believe that doppelgangers' sole purpose is for chaos and mayhem, and they have been killing the good, kind ones. This causes them to target Alexander, of course, and so Daniel moves in with Dartz and his family, wanting to protect Alexander and to kill the council members if/when they come. He also has a past with Alexander, which Alexander does not remember because of the council wiping his memories years ago. Alexander used to follow him around and consider him to be an elder brother, so it's hard for Daniel to now watch Alexander glomping Dartz and Alister and to know that Alexander has no remembrance of their times together.

I've been considering making a letter-writing journal, as several others here have done, and to address the letters to Alister. If I do that, though, it will probably be restricted to a few close friends. Letter-writing journals are invariably more personal than the regular kind, and I don't think I want strangers reading something like that. (I wouldn't want them commenting, at any rate.)
