But a very vague plunnie keeps lingering anyway, so maybe I'll put it down and get it out of the way.

A well-known and probably overly cliche plot device is the repeating day and/or series of events. Mysterious Ways used it. The X-Files used it. I think it started with the movie Groundhog Day, but I could be wrong and it goes back further than that.

The one for Mysterious Ways was especially heartbreaking. It involved a cop whose partner had been killed in the line of duty. Then the day repeats and he hopes he has a chance to save his partner's life. But it still ends with the man's death (albeit under different circumstances).

That made me think of this Star Wars fic where an enemy is tormenting Qui-Gon Jinn by making him suffer through Obi-Wan Kenobi's death five times. Each time, Qui-Gon tries and fails to prevent it.

It made me envision a plot that would involve a repeating day/event cycle, possibly enacted by a specific person, possibly a creature, and possibly something unexplainable. Most likely it would be written for Kolchak, and it would be either him or Tony being tormented with the repeated death of the other. I'm leaning more towards Tony being the one tormented, since he would be much less likely to know what to make of such a supernatural horror. It would probably be like the X-Files episode and something would have to happen to break the cycle, but on the other hand, I'm not sure the events would always be the same. In the X-Files episode, it was a bank hold-up. I lean more towards the Star Wars fic version of multiple scenarios. (Seeing the exact same thing play out over and over in the X-Files episode really got rather tedious and monotonous after a while, too! I wanted to fast-forward it before it was over.)

But then again, I really don't want to write this fic, so I wish I could say this post would be the end of it. Unfortunately, I can't say that, because I have no idea.

And I'd really like to use the prompt "Haunting melody; Remember me" for the amnesia fic, but I can't figure out how Haunting Melody would relate to that. I keep feeling the urge to use it for the ghost town fic, but I can't decide how the Remember Me part would fit that. Good grief.

**hops on to post this entry she was writing earlier.**

You know what I think would be fun? XD A crossover story or RPG with the new TMNT and the X-Files. I know it probably sounds absurd at first, but think of this angle. Bishop and CSM could form an alliance to try to stop alien colonization. On Saturday I was watching some more of the tape Aubrie recorded for me during the time when I didn't have access to the TV (I've been watching some every Saturday), and I found an episode that opened with a flashback of Bishop being abducted by aliens and tested on, and it showed how that was largely influencing his obsessiveness over getting the aliens stopped. I don't know, I've always found Bishop to be a very fascinating character and one of the best TMNT antagonists. Same with CSM on the X-Files.

I've been thinking a lot about the things I would change in the X-Files storyline in general. As I said, I think it started going downhill as early as season 5, but there always have been good things in each season. I even like Doggett and Reyes. I don't think they were the downfall of the show, per se; I think it was more Chris Carter's writing angles in general and his arrogance that it could continue for years no matter what happened to the cast.

Anyway, of the main things I'd have happen (or not happen), there would be these:

---The Lone Gunmen would not die.
---Admittedly, I probably wouldn't have Krycek die either. I never have liked him, but eh, he is a good villain.
---I'm debating over what I'd have happen to CSM. XD; Part of me wants to say that I wouldn't have him get thrown down the stairs by Krycek at all, but another part thinks that maybe he did but he'd made a deal with someone (like with Jeremiah Smith in the past) and that person healed him (he'd been pretty sick before being pushed at the end of Requiem). In any case, I'm figuring that what happened in the show's finale never happened.
---Actually, I figure that nothing in the show's finale happened at all. ;) I think that was a crummy way to end everything.
---Doggett and Reyes would be around, but I wouldn't have Mulder get fired from the FBI. Maybe I'd have it be a temporary suspension, and things would get resolved.
---I don't know that the events of season 9 would happen at all, at least not in the same ways. XD; Mulder wouldn't flee at the beginning of it, for one thing.
---I don't know what I'd have happen with William, either. On the one hand I'm thinking that Scully would not adopt him out. On the other, I'm thinking that she might never have had him at all.
---I do know that I would have Jeffrey survive being shot, but he would not have ended up horribly deformed due to being experimented on, as was shown in season 9.

I love how dark and gritty the Dead End Kids' films are. XD; They're certainly a far cry from how they ended up a decade later as the Bowery Boys, and it's really neat that they can pull off both comic and dramatic acting so well. My favorite DEK film by far is Hell's Kitchen. It's very, very powerful and poignant. Bobby Jordan's character dies, but I think it had to be that way in order to have the full effect of things. It's about a shelter for wayward boys and the way Mr. Krispan runs it with an iron fist, forcing the boys to go without meals for days or even locking them in the walk-in freezer when they've done something he doesn't like.

I was briefly talking about the film with Lizzie the other day, when she was mentioning that she liked Matilda. I never have cared for it myself, and I mentioned that I thought the subject matter wasn't handled in a serious way and that I thought the way they did it was silly. I said that if one wanted to see a cruel schoolteacher handled in a serious way, Hell's Kitchen was definitely the way to go. Actually, now that I think of it, both the villain in Matilda and Mr. Krispan are more like principals/superintendants, but eh. XD;

XD; The X-Files season 6 has too many "shipper" things. Suddenly everyone seems to be thinking that Mulder and Sully are a couple. When something starts being shoved down my throat repeatedly, that's usually when I really start disliking it. I love the pairing, as long as it's like it is on the show, with the emphasis on their deep and meaningful friendship. I do not like it after things really start going downhill. I don't like the idea that they eventually did end up in bed together, as most fans believe that they did, nor do I especially like the idea of Scully's ensuing pregnancy. (I also do not like the changes to CSM around season 7, nor do I like that he seems to have really died in the show's finale. And I also do not like killing off the Lone Gunmen. Come on, they were great!) I do, however, like the idea of Mulder eventually being abducted by aliens and finally being returned in a death-like state. I remember one person was starting a role-play from around the end of season four. That's about when things started basically jumping the shark. Maybe I'll try to find that RP and observe what's happening in it, if it's still going on.

For the last several days, Prisms has been on hold because I've been working on a Bowery Boys one-shot. The idea would not leave me alone, and it finally came to a head after I watched Spy Chasers. It's kinda dark, involving Sach accidentally shooting Duke, and I'm not sure I'll post it at The Bowery. XD; I have, however, showed it to a couple of the friends I've met there, and they've enjoyed it and made suggestions. I still need to determine if I want an epilogue type scene and if Slip and Duke should converse before Sach talks to Duke near the end. But it never fails. No matter how lighthearted a series may be, I can't go for long without coming up with dark and serious ideas. Of course, the Boys' earlier movies were more in the dramedy style that I love so much, and I don't think I've strayed into something terribly unbelieveable for them.

I've ended up writing with all of the gang there. Slip and Duke both seem to try being the leader at once, because they're both too stubborn to back down. LOL. Writing for Slip is an adventure. I have to learn things about the English language in order for him to "moider" it the way he does. I love his malaprops. XD And I have Whitey and Butch there as well. They were the original background Boys, along with Chuck, and I love them too. Basically, I want to capture the flavor of the older movies while including the later characters Duke and Myron, and Mike Clancy (as played by Percy Helton, not Dick Elliot).

I'm going to post my Bowery review of Fighting Trouble, because it's interesting to me due to characters behaving differently than usual and I don't want to rewrite my thoughts for the entry:

Fighting Trouble )

I took 136 pictures from Crashing Las Vegas. XD; Oy. But Jimmy was in almost every scene, so there were a lot of pictures to take.

There's one thing I definitely do not like about memes. XD; Most any time when I or anyone else posts them, the only comments received are ones where the commenter wants to be included in the meme, even if other stuff is posted as well. The other stuff is then generally always ignored, even if ordinarily it would not be.

We watched the first three episodes of season five of the X-Files tonight. Wow, the Redux two-parter was awesome. Very thought-provoking and intense. So was the Unusual Suspects episode that showed how Mulder met the Lone Gunmen. The Cigarette Smoking Man is definitely an intriguing character. I've always found him interesting, even more so since I saw the season 4 episode "Musings of a Cigarette Smoking Man." I was surprised when he was shot in Redux II, as I had originally thought that the assassin seen earlier was after Mulder (though I did begin to suspect the truth at the end of the scene where the assassin was spying on their conversation while aiming his gun).

I just can't believe how badly IMDb.com handles things sometimes. XD; Usually they always say that "sometimes credited as" thing when the actor is credited in more than one way in his films. It's definitely not that way with Jimmy. The other day I was browsing eBay for movie memorabilia the way I like to do, and I found somebody selling some shots from Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea. Included in the listing was a detailed cast, including a James Murphy playing an uncredited crew member. I went to the IMDb to look up this guy and included among his credits was one of the movies credited to Jim Murphy, whom I discovered previously is the same person as Jimmy when I watched Mister Roberts. Oy. Well, anyway, I got the Voyage movie out of the library to doublecheck (haven't watched it yet), but I'm sure this must be him as well. I also have a Spencer Tracy movie called The Last Hurrah. It's a political drama, and Jimmy plays an uncredited office boy. (Oy, he has quite a few roles uncredited by the movies themselves.)

As far as the actual search goes, I have a couple more possible leads and I'm waiting to hear from someone else who may be able to help. One of my contacts seems to have vanished off the face of the earth. XD;

I wish that some of the Bowery Boys fans wouldn't come down so hard on people who like the later movies. XD; Maybe the earlier films were indeed better. Who's to say? It's a matter of personal opinion. But some fans don't just dismiss the later movies as garbage and we shouldn't have to take a lot of crap for that opinion. I honestly don't think I love the later movies so much just because of Myron (even though he is certainly a big part of it). Honestly, I do almost feel like making a semi-rant about the whole subject and posting it to the group, but I probably won't.

Musings

I now have chapter eight of Candy Clouds finished. ^^ I'm quite pleased with it. There's a conversation between two of the villians, which isn't something I usually do, and Valon's frustrated because he's all mixed up. I decided not to have him end up completely brainwashed, as originally planned. Instead he's really confused and is having trouble sorting out what's real and what's not.

And we've almost seen all of season 2 of the X-Files now. ^^ Overall, I like season 1 better, but my current favorite episode, One Breath, is from season 2. It was so awesome. XD It played out like one of my stories. So much hurt/comfort, and supernaturalness, and friendship cuteness....

Let's see. . . . If I were to pick my favorite episodes so far, they would probably be:

-The Pilot
-Shadows (Haunted?)
-Beyond the Sea
-The Erlenmeyer Flask
-One Breath

Annnd something else that I'm forgetting. XD;

One thing I absolutely adore about the X-Files is that it has heart, and meaningful characters. Over time you really get attached to those characters. I think Chris Carter was pretty arrogant to think that the X-Files could just go on and be a smash-hit no matter who was starring in it. The show finally failed after nine seasons because of changes in the main cast. It seemed like it ended on a rather depressing note, too, from what I've heard.

I do have a question, though: Who on the writing team is the big Scully h/c fan? XD She has gotten into so much trouble in season 2. It seems like they can't get enough of putting her in danger. Does that continue into other seasons as well? It seems to me that the situations should be spread evenly between her and Mulder. Maybe there were lots of incidents of Scully in danger from season 1 as well, but it didn't seem as noticeable. XD; After her abduction experience in season 2, it seems that having her get into more trouble almost immediately is overkill.

And another question: What were the writers on when they wrote some of those? XD The last episode we saw last night was the one where they were on the ship stuck in the "time warp." That episode was definitely WTH material. And I don't even get how the doctors got them back to normal! Nothing made sense in that one. -.-; Oh how I despise things where people are forced unnaturally into something like aging.

http://pics.livejournal.com/insaneladybug/pic/00002sdw/g2 I finished the preliminary sketch and inking! This one I wanted to upload before coloring. It can be interpreted either in the original way, where it is symbolic of Alexander's feelings on his self-appointed mission to kill Alister, or it can be interpreted as literally depicting Alexander as an Angel of Death. Either way, I really like it. ^^ Thank goodness I found a picture of Sailor Pluto holding the Time Key so that I could get Alexander's arms and hands right. XD; And in case anyone is wondering why he's holding the glaive down, it's for no better reason than that holding it at that angle was the only way I could fit the weapon part in. Though if you wanted, you could imagine it as symbolism for him bringing death.

And here is the link to the first part of my psychological fic, if anyone wants to look. http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2736049/1/ I'm really hoping to get some reviews on this, even though I'm mainly writing it for myself. (I think most of my best stories have been written for myself and not for anyone in particular.) I write what I want to see written, because hardly anyone else does. XD;

Earlier I had a dream that is actually useful and that was fun to dream! That's pretty rare for me. ^^; I dreamed that Dartz and Alexander were on a business trip at an old hotel in NYC, and then they got involved in a good old-fashioned mystery without any magic or supernatural stuff. It involved the Mafia, I think. And there was a mysterious woman. Also rare about this dream was that at one point I started to wake up, but I wanted to keep dreaming, so I managed to go back to sleep and slip back into the dream again. I'm hardly ever able to do that.

Dad had some episodes of Law & Order: Criminal Intent from the library and we watched a couple. The first was okay, but the second was bizarre. O__o; And I don't like the fact that the sole focus is the crime. I want to see relationships between the characters, like on the X-Files! That's just about the most important thing to me, so for the show to not really have that is a big downside. I don't know that I want to watch any more of it. **shrug.**

Yesterday morning I watched more Saiyuki: episodes 5, 6, and 7. **coos.** I love 6 and 7! Those are the ones with Sanzo's friend who went crazy from implanting a Talisman in his body. Sanzo got speared, Goku went berserk, Sanzo had to eventually kill his former friend. . . . It was intense. And I love the part at the end where Sanzo has a flashback to where he's talking to his master (Koumyuu? I always forget how to spell it), and his master is musing about the birds flying and that, if there was no place for them to go, they might regret having wings at all. "Perhaps true freedom," he says, "is having somewhere to come home to." And then it shows Sanzo stumbling along and seeing the Jeep with the others up ahead. X3 And they play Open Up Your Mind. I swear, that song is going into a bikers fic!

Fic Idea

First, I finished this: http://www.side7.com/cgi-bin/S7SDB/Display.pl?act=image&iid=320317 I'm glad to finally have it done. ^^ I discuss the various quirks of the pic in the long description at Side7, so I won't repeat it all here. XD

And I keep forgetting to tell this fic idea! I want to do something with alien abduction. It would be one of the bikers that would get taken, and when he'd be found, he'd be pretty shellshocked from the whole experience. Over time he would slowly begin to talk about what happened. I don't know which one would get taken, though. Part of me wants it to be Alister, but everything happens to Alister. XD; And if it was one of the others, then Alister could be upset that he wasn't able to stop it from happening and that he doesn't seem to be able to help his friend when said friend isn't talking about things but is obviously mentally suffering. I was considering having it be Raphael, since not much has happened to him. Opinions?

The Dreaming Princess

Your head is in the clouds and you don't feel like
coming back down to earth any time soon. You
have a very active imagination and may find
sometimes that you enjoy fantasy more than
reality. You are sweet and girlish, a loveable,
kind dreamer given to flights of fancy.

You are most likely to: Be enchanted by fairies
after falling asleep in the forest.

Hmm. XD Should I be pleased by this or should I run screaming in horror? Unfortunately, some of it is much too true. I do have that girlish, fantasy part of me. I don't think my head is in the clouds that much, though.

Siegfried was revived by the Valkyries and Mina. ^^ I don't like to give them too much power, so it was something that they could only do once, and it would only work if he was a wandering spirit on Earth and hadn't passed to the afterlife yet. Ha, I caved for once and let his worst wounds get healed. ^^; I had my reasons, though. I didn't want him laid up again. XD He was clawed up pretty badly.

The YGO episode was so great! Poor Mahado. . . . I was surprised that they didn't edit out Yami B getting his foot caught in that claw trap. Ouch. And the big thingies coming down from the ceiling weren't edited either. XD They stayed what they were and didn't become "Shadow Disks" or something funky like that.

And Joey and Shadi had some great exchanges! Joey drew the smiley face on the door so that they'd know not to go down that way, and Téa commented that he should put his thinking to use during school. XD

Shadi: **chuckles.** Good one.
Joey: **gets mad and yells something ending with the insult name Snotty.**
Shadi: **calmly.** That's "Shadi."

XD Then Joey messed up his hair and yelled, "We're gonna be stuck here with the ghost in the bathrobe for the rest of our lives!"

Téa: Oh, way to be positive. -.-
Shadi: For your information, it is a sacred cloak.
Joey: Cloak, bathrobe, whatever!

Sonic X was awesome too. It looks like Rouge may be triggering Shadow's memories. She mentioned Maria and Shadow spaced out, giving Rouge the time she wanted to escape. XD; Shadow's so cool. It's awesome that he has his own game. I'm assuming it takes place during the Sonic Adventure 2 era?

I worked more on that fic in Siegfried's POV this morning. ^^ I added a sequence where we meet his secretary Armina (who will be important in Engel), and I did the part where he goes home and finds Leonhard. Now comes the hard part: writing the part where he starts putting everything together and realizes who's done this. I was also toying with the idea of the AI program on his computer messing up. (Siegfried probably has one.) Computers killing people (or trying to) is always a very disturbing concept. XD **got the idea from watching the X-Files episode Ghost in the Machine.**
ladybug_archive: (Default)
Poor Siegfried died. ;__; He and Yaminah went into the local Industrial Illusions building when Sigurd was in control. Sigurd tried to kill Pegasus because he believed that Pegasus was possessed by one of the people who had conspired to kill Sigurd (he wasn't). Yaminah was able to convince him not to, and Siegfried got back in control. Then the Ring's curse affected Pegasus and he attacked Siegfried, trying to get it from him. Then two medium-sized (and deadly) dragons broke into the building.

Mina and Khu arrived then, along with the Valkyries, and they were all fighting the dragons. Everyone was getting attacked by them, and Siegfried got badly clawed three different times and thrown about, too. Some of the Valkyries got hurt too, and Pegasus was trying to get the Ring again. Then Mina fought with him and Siegfried tried to restrain Pegasus when he was getting the upper hand, so that Mina could get away. By the end of the battle, Siegfried was dying from the injuries sustained. The Ring finally came off his finger and he told Mina to make sure that no one else put it on. The Valkyries all limped over and gathered around him. They are Siegfried's Valkyries, and not the ones from the myths, so they love Siegfried and call him their master.

I've been thinking for the last few hours over how I shall bring Siegfried back, and I have it planned now. ^^ Probably won't be able to get to it till evening, but I'm glad I have it worked out in my mind.

I'm drawing a pic, too, of when the Valkyries gathered around. In order to fit everyone in, (and to have the picture look natural) some Valkyries aren't shown except for their knees. XD; There's nine, plus Yaminah and Mina, and then Siegfried in the center. So far Siegfried and five Valkyries have been drawn in.

I'm slightly annoyed by Fox's schedule changes beginning this morning. They're dropping the dub of Tokyo Mew Mew and also One Piece. I assume both removals are temporary. In Mew Mew's place, there's a rerun of Winx and then there's a second Bratz episode dropped into Sonic X's old slot. Sonic now moves to ten, making me grateful that YGO isn't on at ten right now. -.-; I prefer the original Tokyo Mew Mew over the dub, but the dub was the only way I've had to see the anime in any form, so it is rather irritating.

This third season of Sonic X is soo good! And the dubbing can't be that bad, either, because they've actually acknowledged death, repeatedly. **nodnod.** I love when the censors loosen up. XD

Dad has gotten interested in the X-Files. XD After checking the movie out of the library and watching it, he decided he wanted to see more, so he got the first half of season 1 from the library. So far we've seen five episodes. I enjoy it for the most part. ^^ A few years ago I read some of the novels . . . the ones by Kevin J. Anderson, I think. He also writes Star Wars stuff. His X-Files books are good. There's another guy who wrote a few that I wanted to read, but the repeated usage of the F-word turned me off of those. -.-;
